Switching reservations UY

We currently have an Apr UY which is horrible for our March Vacation. We are waiting for closing on a Feb resale, passed ROFR and made payment and submitted papers.
I want to book at the 7month mark for March 9, which is approx. 5 days away.
Will service allow me to switch where my points once the new contract is loaded?
I was hoping that the Feb contract be closed and loaded now, but seller is in Japan so taking just a little longer.

I don't know for sure, they you will have separate memberships and accounts. Might be one of those, "depends who you talk to", but my gut tells me that you will need to book new.

It's hard to understand the impact of your UY and multiple UY's/contracts until you have experienced it first hand. We have 2 UY's and several contracts but we don't transfer points and have never tried to move a reservation.

As Bill noted, it could depend on the MS rep you speak with. If the new contract is in the same membership, it should not be a problem at all, but since it will be a separate membership, it is usually treated as a cancel and make a new reservation situation - based on availability.

I'm unclear why your April Use Year is horrible for your March vacation - unless you expect to make a late cancellation? Unless you need to cancel, your April Use Year will work just as well as any other Use Year.

I think you have a new member number with a new UY. Not sure that MS will allow the exchange with two UYs involved. I would ask a CM and if they can't do it as for a supervisor. Just be as nice as you possibly can and make them want to help you out so you don't lose those points.

It is bad since we had to change dates and cancel last year due to snow storm that wiped out our flights. That is why I picked up the feb UY just now. I will always talk nice to MS they have been nothing but great to us. During the snow storm and between the canceled room nights and diners, they were able to bank my points for 3 nights couldn't use (less then 24 hours) And not charging any cancelation dollars for our reservations.
I will cross my fingers, if not I will leave the reservations in the apr booking.
I want to be booked at the 7months since checking today, I cant believe but, there is still value rooms at AKL and CL,, I now have to choose.

I assume you will be using April 2014 points to reserve the trip at 7 months out and then later want to try to switch to Feb 2015 points. Since you are purchasing a new use year, you will be getting a new member number. Effectively, for most puirposes, you will be like two different members. When making reservations the two use years cannot be joined to make a single reservation. Because of that, I seriously doubt MS will allow you to replace points in the March ressie with the new Feb points except via cancellation of the first reservation and rebooking subject to availability at the time you want to make the change.

There might be an alternative if they say you cannot do it but you would need to inquire as to the alternative. If the issue is getting the points into the same member number for use to be able to make the switch then possibly what you can do is transfer the needed Feb use year points to the April use year (they would retain their Feb 1 start date) and then make the switch. Obvioulsy, you would need to confrim that can be done before doing any transfer. Nevertheless, even if that is allowed, you would not be setting the April contract up for immediate sale because the Feb points would be in the contract until your March trip and if you need to later cancel that March trip, they would remain in that contract.

Right, I will be using April points, some 2014, some borrowed 2015. I could just wait till my new points are loaded, might be couple of weeks, but then I will be at the 6 month mark. Its a toss up as to which I want to risk. Availability or cancelation of reservation if something comes up.
Oh what to do?

Technically it should be a cancelation and rebooking in this situation and I think there's only a small chance you'll get someone to change it without canceling but DVC is nothing if not inconsistent.

Thanks all, it doesnt hurt to ask and try. As it stands after talking with my rep, the seller just got the papers. So we wont have the points intime. I will book on the points I have now and cross my finers.
