There's no reason to.. Everything I need or want is right here - as well as at the lake.. I spend the winter working on my scrapbooks (although this year I might be quilting as well) and at the lake I spend most of my time reading or working on my mail (and DISing, of course)..

I do go out on occasion at the lake - to the general store, to church, to the campfires, to drop off baked goods for the charity benefits, etc. - but why waste gas trucking all over the place when I'm perfectly happy with my chosen activities?

I'm not a shop-a-holic - have no real family to speak of nearby anymore (most are deceased or have moved out of state - ditto for most of my old friends), and I'm not a party animal.. LOL.. Some people actually do enjoy solitary activities and don't require a lot of outside stimulation..

Not here in FL. Still only for kids 6 months-18 yrs, infant caretakers, pregnant women, and health care workers with direct patient contact. This is at the Health Dept, private offices, and stores that might have them. It's been this way for months now (since the day the shot was released). You would think they could open it to others at this point.

They just started to go to the schools before T"giving.

I am in florida and our whole family got them, we took the kids and they offered them to us with no problem, this was over a month ago.We have not had a shortage of the vaccine where I live, they have not had to turn people away and still have plenty to give...

I also read that due to the severe shortages all over the country, they have opened a facility (in NC I think?) where they will be manufacturing more of this vaccine - but adding the adjuvents to it.. That vaccine will be available to everyone and anyone - with no restrictions whatsoever.. From what I have read about those adjuvents though I'm not so sure that's a shot I would be willing to get..

I hope you can find a shot sometime soon (before the adjuvents are added!)as they are saying they expect another huge wave of confirmed cases right after the holidays - when the kids go back to school..

Glad your DH recovered without any severe complications, but from what people are saying he may feel "dragged out" for a good, long time..

I guess the best thing we can do right now is to concentrate on the holidays - have fun - and enjoy every minute with our family and friends.. One of the things I'm really looking forward to is the annual evening drive to see all the houses decorated and lit up.. We'll wait awhile on that though because not everyone has their decorating done..

Yes its going to be quite interesting how this shot plays out. Since it is so new and was manufactured so fast I wonder what the true side effects will be. I know this flu has certainly changed the way things operate. The churches were advised not to serve wine from a single container to multiple people and also not to shake hands or hug during the sign of peace. I guess the best way to greet someone is with a closed fist and tap their hand.

I'm totally puzzled why someone would assume I was a "recluse" because I don't need outside stimulation, being caught up in the rat race, or running here and there in order to be happy and content.. That's just bizarre to me.. I guess there are other people who really need and rely on that type of lifestyle in order to be happy - have never learned how to entertain themselves - so they just don't "get it".. I wonder what they will do when the day comes that they're shut-ins?? Yikes!!

Again - not all areas of all states are the same.. If you do a little research online you will find that there are "target" areas - that receive more of the vaccine - and other areas that receive little to none and carry many restrictions.. Just not something that can be "generalized"..

well you can take a drive and get it in another county...you do not have to get the vaccine where you live.Have you checked the other places within driving distance? If I was stuck at home because I really wanted to get the vaccine I would make a drive and see if I could get it that way.I know that most counties within a 5 hours of me do have it , maybe some counties not far from you have it.

DGD's school district has an enrollment from 2 different counties and neither county has been able to provide the school with the vaccines - which they have been requesting since September.. However, my family was able to get the vaccine (explained elsewhere) - so it's just not a top priority in my mind anymore..

I'm not "stuck" in the house due to the lack of the flu shot (other than avoiding the doctors office and hospital for tests unless they're crucial - which I tend to do anyhow) - but I just don't "need" or "want" to go out.. It's a choice - which I explained in my pp..I'm simply amazed by people who have this notion that a person can't enjoy their life, their home, and their chosen hobbies and activities without "running the roads".. Really - it can be done! It's called "living the simple life"..

I am a SAHM I leave the house to go to the bustop...thats about it most of the time, it has nothing to do with that....but there have been MANY posts about you wanting the vaccine...THAT is what I was posting about.What part of the northeast are you in?Wasnt there someone here who lives somewhat near you that said the vaccine was aval. to get? If you have health issues then you can get it even with the restrictions...

The information was not accurate - it was specific only to that posters small area in two other nearby counties - ironically one of those same counties that still cannot suppy it to DGD's school district because it's not available.. (Our county and one of the counties the poster lives in overlap in terms of the school district.) If you read back in this thread you will see where I explained the entire situation..

Prior to my family obtaining the vaccine, I was very concerned about getting it for myself.. However, with them being vaccinated and my life choices in regards to how I spend my time and where I go, my risk of catching this flu has dropped considerably - probably at least 95%

I'm a firm believer that everything in life happens for a "reason" - so if it's meant to be, I'll get the shot - if it's not meant to be, there's a reason for that as well.. When and if they lift the new restrictions here, I'll see if I can get it - but ONLY if it's before they start adding the adjuvants to the vaccine.. If that happens first, I'll take my chances without it..

Glad to hear it! Since just one child can infect so many other people, the more who are vaccinated, the better the chances that it will slow down the spead considerably..

I actually don't live in a small area. I live in a big area. I live in right outside of Albany, in a big area. My doc who offered the vaccine is located in Albany county. As I said (and it's annoying at best to have to repeat it, but I did start this thread, so I will) all of my family in this area, one that lives a few miles from C.Ann have been offered and some have gotten the vaccine.To say my info is not accurate, is, uh, not accurate. While HER school district may not have been able to procure vaccines for their area (although her family has been able to be vaccinated), our school district, which is a very large district, has. The clinic has been set up. Maybe the school nurse (she's workign both clinics) I talked to lied and the clinic will end up canceled..but for now, our city school district is holding a clinic tomorrow, and a neighboring one is Sunday. Just because their school had not been able to get it, doesn't mean it hasn't been available in many areas here in the northeast. I didn't start this post to say all areas have the vaccine. As I said in my first post..I guess the emergency rationing is over in our area. Maybe not in her school, but certainly many doc's have the vaccine available. With C.Ann being in the high risk area, it shouldn't be a problem in any case.
While the target group is the main group to get vaccinated, many doc's in our area are offering it to others as the supplies seem to have picked up. As I've said, the people I know who have wanted the vacc have been able to get it.

You lucked out for sure. There are regulations at the health dept so that only the priority groups can get them. All of FL county health depts have this. Our Dr's office is the same. Only the kids could get at the Peds office. DH called along his route 3 hours out of town and even the CVS and Walgreens that offered it ALSO had the priority group only restriction. Do you all have asthma or other conditions? Maybe you went early on before they realized the "tiers" for who could get them.

Unless the person having the difficulty is you, how do they know what is happening within your specific medical community? Bottom line is they don't.. The generalizations that surround this topic are silly.. Continue to make your calls; listen to the news; do your research online; and hopefully something will open up for you soon - preferably before the "new" shots come out!

I'll have to remember to ask my sister about this when I call her again.. See how the availability is in her area of Florida.. Hopefully she has already received it by now..

I forgot to ask my brother the last time I talked to him.. He lives in an entirely different section of Florida than my sis.. I have a feeling he's not going to bother though - even with his asbestosis and mesothelioma (sp?).. (Not sure about his GF.) He'll just put on his rose-colored glasses and pretend all is well in the world.. I love him - but sometimes his attitude drives me nuts!! LOL..

It's not either can't or won't comprehend. I comprehend just find. We have both had different experiences..why can't you just accept that? My doc offered..even called. I have a lot of family and friends that haven't had any problem getting the vacc. Your dd, gd, and sil got it, even though you said yourself they are not really your caretakers, you just happen to live with them. So it's obvious that doc's get to make decisions based on their supply and demand just by that.

Here is the priority list, which apparently not all seem to have to follow. I wonder if it has to do with how much vaccine each particular person has, and if their priority has been filled:
Pregnant women
Children ages 6 mos. to 24 years
Adults ages 25 – 64 with chronic health conditions
Healthcare workers
Caregivers of children under 6 mos. of age

I don't see people that live with high risk people on the priority list. Although I recognize that is important. Apparently my doc has vaccine. Perhaps once it's in his office, and the prioirity's are done, he gets to make decisions that you can't comprehend, or won't.
There is nothing 'silly' here. Why would I do my reserch, if I have the answer? It's been offered to me.

You said it was offered to you as well, but you weren't able to get it at that time. Perhaps you need to do some more research and see if you can get it now..with your high risk and all.

We can see right on this thread that you were done with, that different people have different experiences beside you and me. Those that are posting that aren't able to get it seem to accept that many do.
