Swine Flu - General Discussion and how it affects Disney

How are you, Grace? You guys completely bored to tears yet? You guys all still healthy? I hope you don't mind us making jokes over here...I know this is a pain in the booty for you guys.

We are fine! I sent my DD to my best friend's house 2.5 hours away from here to get her out of the "hysteria" midset that is currently going on here. I don't think it's good for a 5 yar old to be told she can't play with her friends or go to school because everyone's sick. So I am just treating it like a vacation! :goodvibes The town where I sent her has no suspected cases and everything's open so she can play and everything be normal!
On the other hand here, we of course have people on both extremes of this topic. Our local grocery store sent all high school students home for 10 days and they aren't allowed to work while they're out of school. Some employers are getting in trouble for demanding their employees work when sick co-workers ar present in the office.

Pretty much what you'd expect from a small town possible "pandemic" with conflicting information everywhere you turn.

:confused3

sounds like you have done an awesome job in taking care of your little girl - both physically and emotionally and that is great! :) Sorry for all of the confusion, etc. :sad2: Not fun!

I hope we all, as a nation, learn from this experience in the weeks and months to come!

Does anyone else find it compelling that a vast majority of the cases are kids?? It does make you wonder if the older people do have some sort of immunity from this??

neah...kids are germy little critters :lmao:
thats how most illnesses get passed ~ in schools...then the little creeps bring their germs home with them and get the adults sick:rolleyes:

If they do find that the kids are the main ones getting sick I would suspct that places like WDW would be instructed or urged to close or take some extreme precautions. I'm just thinking out loud (or in writing) here!

One good thing is the weekend is upon us now.

It takes 48 hours for this flu to make you sick~ so hopefully anyone who IS infected will get sick over the weekend and stay home on Monday ~ this might help the schools a bit.

Also it will give all the schools a few days to clean top to bottom

Could just be that kids are in school, so there's a lot of them in any given space, and kids are bad about handwashing, putting stuff in their mouth etc.

Also a LOT of high school's have trips to mexico for Spring break... some to party but others go for language classes and culture learning.

Since such a large % of these kids have been to Mexico ~ I am thinking thats the case with them

There is definitely a good chance of that. The fact that it is a combination of several viruses means that one (or even more) of those pieces contains an antigen that one's body might have memory for. Older people have been exposed to more in their lifetimes and have more antibodies and memory cells.

The reason that you hear conflicting reports from medical professionals is the simple fact that no one really knows for certain yet. They have theories, but who knows which ones are correct.

I do find it interesting that we don't seem to be getting that "aggressive immune response" that some had theorized was contributing to the mortality rate in Mexico among healthy individuals.

Oh, and here's at least a bit of good news from the CDC:

I think if I came down with flu like symptoms I would try and ride it out, if one of my son's had the same symptoms I would take him in as a precaution. I just wonder if some adults are just dealing with it :confused3 Just thinking out loud too.
