Also, I wanted to let you know their "official" reasoning for closing our schools for 10 days and where the oftn mentioned 10 day closures come from:
they want it to span 2 incubation periods
Also, FYI here is the headline article in our local paper today:
2 swine flu cases confirmed
By Chris Cobb

The first two confirmed cases of swine flu in Comal County were reported on Thursday.
County Health Authority Dr. Dorothy Overman said two students one at New Braunfels High School and another at Freiheit Elementary became the first local residents to be diagnosed officially with the potentially fatal virus.
Another two highly probable cases have been sent to the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmation, and more than 100 possible cases collected in Comal County still are being tested for the disease, Overman said during a Thursday news conference at the New Braunfels Civic Convention Center.
The first concrete evidence of the virus spread into the county comes two days after public and private school officials ordered a shutdown of every school campus until May 11, and Overman recommended that all citizens avoid public gatherings to reduce the risk of exposure to the rapidly spreading new viral strain.
County Judge Danny Scheel took the news as vindication for what some believe was the countys drastic recommendations and prevention measures, and proof that those treating the spread of the disease lightly should take caution.
I would have agreed with them three days ago, Scheel said. But after I watched the indicators that weve had in the last 48 hours, Im fully in agreement that weve done the right thing and that the rest of the state is moving forward to do the right thing.
The number of CDC-confirmed swine flu cases in the United States has more than doubled since Monday. Eight of those cases have been in neighboring Guadalupe County. Over that same span, Comal County has jumped from zero reported possible cases to 107 samples of Type A influenza that are currently being tested for signs of swine flu.
The two confirmed local cases and the two highly probable samples all came from Comal County students, Overman said, adding that students are often more at risk because of their environment.
Schools always have been known to be reservoirs of infection, Overman said.
But despite orders from health, school and county officials to avoid public gatherings, students were meeting in large numbers Wednesday at local movie theaters and some local events were going to continue as planned this weekend.
Its not perfect, New Braunfels Independent School District Superintendent Mike Smith said. People are meeting at Wal-Mart, theyre going to the movies. ... Last time I checked it was a free country.
Texas Governor Rick Perry issued a statewide disaster declaration Wednesday in response to the outbreak.
County officials were unclear as to whether that would give the county judge expanded authority or the power to issue an outright legal ban on public gatherings.
I dont want to go overboard, Scheel said earlier in the day. I dont want to do anything if I dont have to.
Scheel said he hoped parents would be interested enough in their children to keep them from being potentially exposed to the disease and that event organizers would work to avoid large gatherings.

I was hoping in light of all the recent news of it being a much less lethal strain than they originally anticiptaed, that they would open our schools early!!! Doesn't look that way!
