Swine Flu - General Discussion and how it affects Disney

I hope everyone who is traveling soon has a wonderful and illness free trip! Bring a big bottle of hand sanitizer and use it all up! Oprah's favorite doctor Mehmet Oz was on The View this morning and he said that hand sanitizer is KEY. I always thought it was useless against a virus...but if Dr. Oz says so...who am I to question? ;)

It depends on the type, IIRC. Alcohol-based sanitizers will kill any germs; anti-bacterials are only effective against bacteria.

Keep in mind that viruses in the spring are also much weaker. But the scary thing is that this one seems to be spreading quickly. I think I just read a report that there was a case of a man in Disney who was from Mexico just got diagnosed...

We are going end of May. We'll be taking handy wipes. But we are still going.

Swine flu is now visiting the Mouse??? Oh my....:scared1: Quick everyone cancel their trip...NOT. Going in June and really hope this lightens the crowd AND keeps the international tourists at bay...:wizard:

We are leaving Friday...here's hoping someone decides not to go and cancels their ADR to CRT so I can snag it! :rotfl:

CDC stated they believe there will be deaths in the US due to the virus

Which is not surprising, nor is it a reason for becoming overly concerned. The regular old flu which we've battled for years kills people, so I'm sure this one will too.

you guys heard what the NYC health commissioner said? "many hundreds" of school children sick:eek:

CDC stated they believe there will be deaths in the US due to the virus

ABC is reporting...

Gov. Schwarzenegger declared a swine flu emergency in California today. They suspect two deaths from the flu in California and more suspected cases have been found there.

"Indiana joins Ohio, New York, Texas, Kansas and California as states with confirmed cases."

WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE. Oh, right. We are eventually.

Never mind.

I've been shot three times, stabbed once (training accident) and been in two helicopter crashes not to mention a few traffic accidents and other miscellaneous injuries.

BRING IT ON PIGS!

Oh, but they can..ever hear of martial law? The govenrment can impose quarantines and they can close the borders..

Then they ( the people out there trying to enforce the "martial law" would be breaking the law themselves....Citizen's arrest Citizen's arrest. And the government cannot "force" you to get the shot. And,,,if (and thats a big if) they did impose martial law,,,this country would go belly-up in no time...no one (businesses etc,,,) would be working...Government wouldnt want that now

I just read on an "insider" website that Disney will not be open May 1-8 in efforts to contain the spread of Swine flu. Please spread the word to everyone you know planning to visit to cancel their plans...

um, yup. That's definitely what I heard.;)

Go clean your ears ~ What THEY SAID WAS .. they were closing the parks July 17-27 SHEESH this is how rumors get started don't ya know ;):rolleyes1

I swear..All media outlets should be charged with criminal irresponsibility. They are reporting conjecture and speculation as confirmed fact when it is not and are using strong language to incite national PANIC.

Nice....Inside Edition just "confirmed" that there was a case of swine flu at WDW...obviously they didn't get the memo that it's not true. (Gee, I wonder if this is how panic is spread??!) :sad2:

Either way, I heard the rumor too. Yep, closed 1st-8th. Bummer! :lmao:

I just saw on a Philadelphia news site that a couple coming from Cancun to Ontario had a stopover in Philly. They were both exhibiting flu-like symptoms so they were taken to get tested. The girl's test has come back as negative for the swine flu. So I guess the story is that a lot of these cases are, indeed, just "possibilities" until the CDC can confirm them. In this instance it was a good outcome.

OK in all seriousness ~ Its not true? I agree about it not being confirmed but there is a guy at the orlando hospital who is from Mexico who has the flu and came down with it while vacationing at Disney, right? wrong?
We just don't know if its THE SWINE flu?

http://www.wftv.com/index.html

What people need to understand is there are ONLY 2 LABS in North America that can test for this flu. I am sure they are really back logged and also CNN interviewed several people who went to the hospital in NYC as they had the flu but were denied the test. They were just told and treated for swine flu. SOOOO it has been proven the CDC is playing with the numbers and picking and choosing who it wants to test.

It takes a week for those test results to come back... so this guy COULD have the swine Flu but from what I gather the *facts* are a Mexican male is in the hospital with the flu?

QUOTE:
Viamonte Ros said several samples are being sent to state labs where, if they get a positive test, they are then forwarded to the CDC for confirmation.

This quote is MAJOR Double speak:

"There have been no confirmed cases of swine flu by the CDC in Central Florida,"

Since the CDC not only has to get the test results back, they also need to investigate before they add it to their list. Remember, everyone actually on the list has recovered from the swine flu before being put on the list :lmao:

ok i have been at work...i see the little smilies but i have to check - disney closing may 1- 8 is a joke right????? i am a little paranoid at this point. :)
