Swimming in early Dec...

Hey all!

We are thinking of going back to DL in early Dec, and are trying to pick a hotel. In the past, we have stayed at the BWPPI and the Carousel. Our kids like to swim, but it's not an obsession. They would much rather wander around DL... However, the BWPPI pool was really small and crowded, soso we hardly used it, and the Carousel rooftop pool was closed during our last trip. (huge surprise and disappointment! Our kids had been telling everyone for months that we were going to be swimming on the roof!) So, we've been doing alot of talk about the quality of pool in whatever hotel we choose next, even toying with the idea of paying for the DLH because the pool is so cool It occured to us, though, that it may be too cold to swim at that time of the year anyways! And do you guys find that you even make time to make use of a nice pool? (not just DLH, but any hotel) We're from Canada, where our outdoor pools get used for aobut 8 weeks of the year , so any feedback/advice would be appreciated!

The best off-site hotel pool areas are at the HoJo. It is still walking distance and is right across the street from MiMi's Cafe.

They have Speedy's splash area, a zero entry baby pool, 2 large pools and a hot tub. They keep them all very well heated during the winter and we always swim during our holiday trips.

I always find it too cold to swim in December--but then I live in CA and I've acclimated to the weather here. You might find it just fine. (highs most likely will be in the 60s.)

For what it's worth, the Desert Inn and Suites has an indoor pool. It's not a real NICE one, nor is the hotel, but it's right across the street and it's clean.

If you want a nice indoor pool, you'd have to go to the Embassy Suites which is about a mile or so down Harbor Blvd.

We also are going in December, and through our research we decided on Desert Inn & Suites, because of the indoor pool. It is directly across from DL, but from the pictures, the pool isn't the biggest. The only real complaint that I heard was the pool room smelled like Chlorine. The room set up also worked for us, since we are going w/my parents & wanted adjoining rooms, now we have a suite.

I was also told that the Embassy Suites have an indoor pool, but I think they are farther away from DL.

We go in Dec every year. We take a break in the afternoon to swim and nap. Even when it is chilly, the kids want to swim and then they'll join us in the hottub. But they were born in Lake Tahoe, where you grow up running out to the mail box barefoot in four feet of snow!

stayed at DLH and the water was freezing. The weather outside was warm enough to swim though. This year it is GCH and I am hoping the water will be warm enough to go in.

There is a TON of chlorine in that pool. You might even want to bring goggles for the kids.

We go the first week of Dec every year, and last year we stayed at DLH. My DH and I did not go in the pool, but my nephews (2 and 7) and neice (5) did go in and loved it! I think it doesn't really katter to kids. My FIL and MIL also went in, and said it was cold for them, so they sat in the hot tub

Granted, last year it was EXTREMELY windy and dry, so the air temp was cold when you were wet. I would say nights are for sure way to cold to swim.

My kids have swam in December, January and February while at Disneyland. The Disneyland Hotel is wonderful, we love it for its pool, grounds and dining options. And of course the rooms which are spacious and full of nice Disney touches. We have stayed at all three onsite hotels and the DLH is our favorite. And we have swam there plenty of times in the winter, when its been both warm and chilly outside. Our experience has been they keep the water pretty warm. The DLH also has two smaller, quiet pools (called Cove pools I believe) that are also nice and have a nice, large sand area to play in if they get tired of swimming. For my kids, its always fun for them to swim when here at home, the outdoor pools are long since closed. As for offsite pools, I agree, the BWPPI's pool is pretty small and crummy. The Hojo's is very nice as Dangermouse said. We also enjoyed the pool at the Tropicana, which is right next door to the BWPPI, so same great location, a free breakfast and a much better pool. In fact, that has thus far been our favorite offsite motel (have stayed at Hojo, Camelot, BWPPI as well). We swam in that pool at the Tropicana in February of 06 and it was very nice and warm in the water. And it has a very oversized hottub.
