swimming and DD's hair

I'm not looking forward to shampooing 3 DD's everyday, maybe 2x a day if they swim after dinner. Anyone have suggestions. Are there showers by pool to at least rinse out chlorine. Also while were at it, does everyone bring woolite or something to rinse out bathing suits in bathroom sink? Can you tell we've never been on a week long family vacation??!!!

I have 4 DD's all with long (waist length) hair. I end up washing it everyday, sometimes twice! However, there are pool showers at all the resorts we have stayed at. I have not used Woolite for the bathing suits, I just rinse them in the sink and dry them on the drying rack that I bring from home. Woolite is a great idea though. I'll have to do that when we go in July.

I also, use plenty of conditioner because the Florida sun and chlorine do a number on their hair. I also use something called Silk Therapy, it's some sort of silicone. It makes the girls hair really easy to brush and gives it tons of shine.

Thanks, I'll have to pick up the silk therapy conditioner. I'll be thinking about you doing 4 heads of hair. I think we'll be there the same time, but Im at the Poly.

DD4 swims twice a day at summer camp right now (once during the day and once for swimming lessons). I normally rinse out her suits then let them dry. Sometimes I have to give them a quick spin in the dryer in the am snce it is so humid here.

As for her hair, after her bath at night, I put a spray on conditioner/detangler in her hair, then while it is still wet, I braid it into two pigtails (much like Laura on Little House on the Prarie). She sleeps with it like that, then swims the next day. When she comes home, I take the braids out for a couple of hours, then start all over again at bath. The braids really help minimze the tangles that can get into long, thick hair when swimming. I will do something similar at WDW this summer.

To keep hair from absorbing the clorine as much, wet hair and apply conditioner and do not rinse, when your done swimming was hair right away. This will help hair from becoming so dry and damaged.

To get chlorine out of hair just mix a spoonful of baking soda into the shampoo. It really works.

Oh tell me about this! Is this the stuff they sell in salons? I think I remember seeing a whole line of "silk therapy" Do you use the whole line (shampoo, conditioner, 'therapy')? Does it work at al in keeping tangles out?

Silk Therapy is Great! It is a whole system, or you can just use what you need. I use it on my daughters hair. She is 1/2 white and 1/2 half African American and her hair has the texture of ethnic hair but it grows straight. This makes it difficult to condition her hair as "white" products are often to light and "black" products too heavy. I use the shampoo, conditioner and a kind of finishing product on her hair. It is a bit pricy but you really only need a very tiny bit. I think it runs arund $15-$20 per bottle. I only use a dab, smaller than a dime on her hair. The finishing product is probably the best. I use it on my skin sometimes too.

Hi Chitownzee-

I agree with the previous post--it is great stuff. It helps with getting out tangles and makes hair oh so shiny. You only have to use a drop--like the size of a dime.

I have very curly hair and I use it to control the frizz-factor and help with shine. My 4DD's all have different texture hair--from stick straight and thick, to wavy and thick, to straight and fine. It works great on all of them. I don't use the shampoo and conditioner tho'--it would be too expensive for all five of us. I think most of the shampoo and conditioner I buy ends up being used a bubble bath-LOL! I swear by Pantene Smooth & Sleek shampoo & conditioner for the girls.

Anyway back to Silk Therapy. It is made by Farouk Systems and it's official name is Biosilk-Silk Therapy. It is pricy, at the salon in NJ it costs $12 for a one ounce bottle...but I can get an 11.6 oz bottle at Costco for $20. I bought this bottle over a year ago and it is still 3/4 full with all five of us using it everyday.

BTW-my girls swim year round and this helps tremendously with over chlorinated hair.

Anyone know about getting green out of very blond hair? Last summer my dds' hair were both GREEN. It si already gettingt hat way now...

There is special shampoo made for taking out Chlorine etc. Ask at a beauty supply store, or maybe a swim shop. I can't remember the name, but my sis always uses it on her blondies! Loreal Kids also makes a sun & sport shampoo that is supposed to take the green out, but it is very drying.

I found the Silk Therapy line at walmart and here in Maine it is on sale for $4 a bottle. I just thought I would pass along so you can stock up.
