Sweet Tea?

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: This is crackin me up.......my husband told that about the Coke to a good friend of his from Canada, and he just cannot wrap his brain around that concept, just doesn't understand that at all. :rotfl2: And sweet tea is a mystery to him as well, I explained to him how it is made, and he had never heard of it and cannot understand why we would sweeten iced tea for some reason either. :lmao:

Ewww. How can you drink tea that is not sweet in some way either with sugar or splenda? My momma makes sweet tea that I swear you could pour over your pancakes, LOL. Mine is sweet but not that sweet. We have a great deli here in town, McAlisters, it is a chain. And they are famous for their sweet tea. I am eating lunch there today as a matter of fact but getting unsweet and putting plenty of splenda and the pink things in it.

And as for Florida not being Southern - bite your tongue, whoever said that. The bottom half of the state may have been overrun by retired Yankees and illegal (and yes, some legal) hispanics of various origins, but the top half of the state is very much still Southern and it will be a cold day in Heckfire before we give up our Suthron-ness in the name of unsweet tea and socks with sandals!

Git yerself up round abouts Ocala and northwards and exit I-75 and drive into a small town and ask someone outside of a wooden house if they are Southern or not. Then run, because they are likely to have a shotgun nearby and will be sure to pepper your **** with buckshot! Or, alternately, drive up near Starke, find a nice young lad in a very large pickup truck that has giant tires, a #3 sticker in the back window, and splatters of mud down the side, and ask him if he is Southern or not. Check the back window of the truck for a gunrack first, and make sure that there are no rifles in it...

Now, it's about time for lunch... I need me some BBQ beef, corn nuggets, baked beans, fried squash, onion rings, and a giant ole glass of REAL, 100% SUTHRON sweet tea - made fresh and sweetened while it was still hot! :thumbsup2 :yay:

Priceless. Positively priceless.

God, I love Jacksonville and the people who live here. I'm so glad to call it home :)

Sweet Tea sounds great but I can't try it until I find out how many WW points it has. ;)

Not sure about points but my sweet tea has almost 2 cups of sugar per gallon. That will definitely sweeten anyone up! Love the stuff! DH is addicted. :drinking1

As my grandmother would say, "Oh darlin', you just don't want to know."

But I bet that could be a thread all on its own. The point count would most definitely depend on the maker. My Mama's would be off the charts. I drank two glasses of it one morning before my OB appointment and my sugar level was sky high. I kept telling them it was just the tea, but they didn't believe me. After my glucose tolerance test came back normal, they were astounded.

Also kind of like saying "bless your heart". ;) I'm taking notes of the places on property with sweet tea. We couldn't find any last December and I could only placate DH, who is a sweet tea connoisseur by the way, by making some when we got back to the villa. Thank heavens we had that kitchen.

"bless your heart"! That's what my aunt from Kentucky is always saying. Never really realized it 'til I read your post.

Made me think of her  . Thanks!

Now, Waffle House does have good sweet tea, but the best sweet tea in the whole world is the tea that you get at a good, ole Southern family reunion. My Aunt Thelma (we called her Snaily - she was my Great Aunt), who was 93 years old, would make sweet tea that was so sweet that you needed an insulin injection to drink it. In 20 years of trying, I have yet to master sweet tea.

However, the nothern half is very much the south. This is coming from someone who moved from Miami to Jacksonville. If anyone's driving to Orlando, you'll find all the sweet southern (authentic!) fixins in the northern half of the state :)

You're absoulutely right about that. My college roommate was from Tallahassee, and she was more Southern than I was, even from SC. And Orlando's not THAT far -- they have NO EXCUSE not to serve sweet tea at WDW!!!

Actually a glass of sweet tea isn't that high in calories, by my calculations. Tea doesn't really have any by itself, I don't think. And I looked up how many calories were in a cup of sugar. I put about 2/3 cup in my 3 qt pitcher of tea (I have one of those Iced Tea Makers by Mr. Coffee). So, there are 12-8 oz glasses in that pitcher; divide that into the number of calories 2/3 c of sugar has, and it was surprisingly not that high.

Now, I don't make it as sweet as I like for it to be in a restaurant -- I can't in good conscience put that much sugar in KNOWINGLY. But since I have no idea what they do in a restaurant, I can just PRETEND it's not that much. AND I SUCK IT DOWN! :)

If I remember right sweet tea made with splenda or something like that using decafinated tea is 0 points so enjoy!!

I actually make my sweet tea with green tea leaves and splenda and I love it! Green tea has all those antioxidants and supposidly boosts your metabolisim..

I was just reading through the rest of these posts and I can't believe I forgot to add where they sell really good sweet tea, the grocery store PUBLIX!!!! Their brand of sweet tea is really good. Not like those fake syrup tasting kinds that some stores sell. Now, to be fair, I am in Jacksonville, FL and not Orlando, but I believe they all make the same tea at the store :thumbsup2

Boston born and Boston bred, but let me tell you, I know what Sweet Tea is...it is definitely the nectar of the Gods as someone said recently....nothing quite compares and believe me I have tried. At home, here on Cape Cod, I do sweeten my iced tea with splenda, but the real thing is done with sugar and when it is hot and it is incredible..

Count me as a Yankee who knows what Sweet Tea is....and just the thought of it makes my mouth water. Those Southerners sure know how to live great food and incredible Sweet Tea....how about those hushpuppies???

Tea with Splenda is not sweet tea. It's unsweet tea made with Splenda.

Me too, NY born & raised, but I make a mean sweet tea!!

Cracker Barrel is here in NY too, but their sweet tea has got nothin' on mine, lol! :)

Took me about 2 years to get the right combo of tea, water, sugar and even (gasp) a tiny bit of fresh lemon. :sunny:

I think Bluejasmine was responding to someone who asked how many points sweet tea would be on Weight Watchers. :thumbsup2
