My family always celebrated the girls 16th birthday with a Sweet 16 party, my DH's family doesn't seem to. My DD is 13 and I plan on having a Sweet 16 party for her and I know some of her friends have discussed having parties amongest themselves. I'm wondering how many of you have had a Sweet 16 party for your DD's or even if you had one growing up. Are they outdated?

I turned 16 a very long time ago. Sweet 16 parties were the rage but I didn't have one. I would have loved to have had a sweet 16 party, though :)

I had a sweet sixteen party......(I'm 37 now) as well as all 3 of my sisters.

I think it just depends on you. I really don't hear of alot of them...but just last November, my girlfriend had one for her daughter

Alot of people are Jewish where I live, so most girls have a HUGE (wedding scale) Bat Mitzvah and no Sweet 16. Some of the Christian girls have Sweet 16s, I swore up and down that I wanted one because I wasn't able to have a Bat Mitzvah.

I opted for the week long family Disney trip planned by yours truely doing whatever I wanted instead of the big party :)

My 16th birthday was almost 11 years ago... no Sweet Sixteen party here.

I didn't have one **years ago.

DD is 17 and she didn't have one either. A few girls here have them, but not many.

Sweet 16 parties are still in...I was going to have one for my 16th birthday, but decided I'd rather drool over really cute guys that are in a show at Universal Studios...so I went to the park for 4 days and don't regret it. Talk to your DD when it gets closer to her Sweet 16 and see what she'd rather do. I know of a friend who plans on having a party. But, maybe your DD would rather have a special trip to WDW (excuse for another trip, maybe? ;)) or somewhere. Another one of my friends just went down to the Florida Keys for her birthday, with family.

Different for everyone. :) Again, I do not regret not having a party, but, I would not have minded having one...would have been fun! Whatever you do, make it memorable!! :)

I did not have a party. Like Evil Princess, I planned a Disney vacation with my family.:D

I turned 16 more than 16 years ago (ok, 19, to be exact:rolleyes: )

No party, just cake and gifts from my immediate family. It was one of my most memorable birthdays, however because my older stepbrother and stepsister serenaded me with "Sixteen Candles." Very, very funny. I couldn't tell you what any of the other gifts were, but that song (and the visuals to go with it) is burned into my brain. Nothing can compare to special moments with family.

I'm 18, I can only think of a few kids who had big Sweet Sixteen parties. I did a Disney vacation too for my 16th birthday lol

Boy, I hope DD chooses a trip to WDW instead of a party, that would be great. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. :D
