Swap ideas for the new year (2007)

For my swaps just throw them wherever you fit them in Im not going to be picky. The only one I'd really like to start on first though is the pet swap. My kids are "hounding" me to scrap some pictures of our dog and cat. I've been thinking of these swaps that I'd like to host and I think I'd prefer a 4 week deadline at the most. Except for the ABC one's.

Character - this is good for any ole time

ABC's of Disney - maybe this more towards the end of the summer like it was this last time around. I was also thinking of maybe doing a " ABC's of Life" book swap ( if anyone would even be interested in this one) .. (15 people Max: Elements: Swappers Choice of 3)

Altered swap (not sure what we are altering yet, but I was thinking of something that can be used for easter)

Sign ups in March DUE April 1st; DISNEY Suprise! Swappers Choice : . This could be anything Disney Any two elements, 2 groups of 10. No telling your elements.

Pet : 2 groups of 10, 2 elements each, swappers choice. so Like a tag and journal box, or 2 squares and a poem. etc..

Disney ride - Any Disney ride in any disney park. 2 groups of 10. 2 elements each.

Let me know if this works I'm loving all the brain storming and so looking forward to the Pizza box ..lol.. how long would the box be at one destination? Just wondering because I can imagine everyone is signing up for that one.

I think a 2 week turnaround for the pizza box is more than enough... if not even a week..

How about altered paper clips??? Check them out on 2Peas.. they are cool..
Maybe 2 groups of 5 people.. they each make 2-3 clips per person..
They could be one group of Disney and one group general theme.. flowers, lady bugs, etc... snowflakes

Yes 2 weeks is good, if a lot of people sign up I may even do a West coast box and an East coast box, that way Kat wouldn't be waiting for ever for a box. I'm actually going to start a thread and gather addys now so I can have them inside the box for reference. I will keep track of the boxes as they move around.
Now to find a box!

search under paper clip you find more than altered paper clip. There are some really cute ones and I bought gold colored jumbo clips at Staples and silver jumbo at Walmart.

ETA did you see the snowman card? How adorable!!!

ok, help me out though, would people do JUST the clips or the extra 'whatever' that it is attached to? (like the button clips attached to the 'cute as a button' thing). kwim?

So glad you're willing to host a pet swap, Kat. That's my priority for scrapping after the first of the year, too. Would you divide the groups based on type of pets? I know some people have both dogs and cats in the same home, and other types of pets, too. I tried that 14 years ago and Yoda (my baby that died this past summer) didn't want it, to say the least. So, I've got strictly a doggie family!

Ya I was thinking about doing it that way. I want to do dogs and cats . Maybe have group 1 Dogs, since I think the majority of ppl have a dog. and I myself take ALOT more pictures of my baby Charlie than I do of our "Princess" cat. So I think the way I can work this is Group 1 would be Dogs only and Group 2 would be Cats. Those are the only animals I have If there was a need I could open a third group for "other pets" this type of swap i really can't forsee everyone signing up for all 3 groups if there were to be that many. But you never know. I've actually already got my ideas ready to go..lol.. But I will not do more than the 3 groups.

My 2007 swap ideas:

6x6 scrap pages - ideas for themes could be birthday, holiday, school, recipe, Disney, baby, ect.. What I like about these is that they're great for gift albums or brag books, they don't require $50 in supplies, and they're simple to make in large quantities because the base is just a sheet of 12x12 cs cut into fours. Newbies or vets could particapte. They can also be mailed very easily. They're also great for month to month albums. If 12 people sign up, you could have a month to month album that you could give as a gift at the end of year, or keep for yourself of course. I've never hosted, but I'd be happy to volunteer for this one!

Altered clipboard swap

Altered tin swap (altoid tins and those little round tins are great too!)

Embellished bookmark swap - I've seen some really cute ones at our LSS, and they don't require too much in supplies!

Embellished tag swap - 4-6 tags per person, two-layers, using pre-cut tags or punches. Themes could be birthday, holiday, sentiment or generic gift tags.

Embellished mini composition notebook swap - I've received a couple of these and they're adorable!

That's all I could think of for now, I'm sure I'll have more ideas later!

Also, lots of questions. Maybe some of these have been answered, but I just got home and am too tired from teaching and being in class after school to read the whole thread. So I apologize in advance. Will we give advance warnings of sign up dates and times? What if a swap fills and there are many others that want to do it, can another person sign up to host the rest of the swappers in the same type swap? Will we be limiting the number of slots a person can take when sign ups first come out so that more people have a chance to participate?

hmmm I would think just the clips, but you could write up a little card to attach it to without much trouble. That would give it a bit of a theme.

Yes, I changed the calendar into 3 parts, Swap sign ups, swap due dates, and on going circles and and exchanges. Hostesses will also be responsible for starting their own sign up threads.

It depends on the hostess they can open more groups. We can have a co- host that would do a part of it, like Nancy and Brooke's ride and land swap where one was sent to Nancy and one was sent to Brooke. They were due at the same time but it was manageable. Or we can have a round 2 later in the year.

Will we be limiting the number of slots a person can take when sign ups first come out so that more people have a chance to participate?

I also think this would depend on the hostess. I'm trying to get enough swaps going that everyone will be satisfied and we can go at our own pace. Also the calendar will help everyone decide which ones they really want to join. Say my limit I put on myself is 4 a year(I know, who are we kidding) I can look and see that there are 3 in the spring I like but I'm not sure about the summer. If you put one up in the fall I have to be in then I can decide ahead of time that I really want to join. So I'm not kicking myself for missing it but I'm also not stressing because I feel overwhelmed.

Now as for chronic flakers it will be up to the discretion of the hostess to put a limit on the number of slots they can sign up for.

I plugged in some shadow dates for the park swaps with a 6 week turn around time. They are not set in stone and most do not have hosts but it will help us see where we want to fill in.

Im thinking..lol.. trying to decide the back to school etc.. Um, lets try for signups in September around the first and due sometime about mid October . This way they are done before the holidays kick in and make a great christmas gift.

Would anyone be interested in a Non-Disney ABC swap? Im not sure I even know how to do anything non disney..lol.. what a challenge!
