Ann, go to the printer manufacturer's website. Usually you can get updated drivers from there and download them directly to your 'puter.

sigh. the HP website says the most current driver is installed already on my PC so it won't let me download.....but the puter error message says something is "corrupt" about the driver or sumpin' ......I KNEW it -- it's all DEBBIE's fault!! CORRUPT!!!

I am in SUCH a bad mood today. I know I need to snap out of it but this printer thingie is driving me CRAZY, and I can't figure it out. No matter what I do I go around in circles with error messages..in the hours I've spent I should have ripped it out, thrown it in the dump, gone to Best Buy and bought a cheap one and installed it, because the darn thing is 6 years old anyway.

I don't suppose you downloaded AOL 9.0, did you? A classmate of mine did, and she's had problems ever since...especially her printer!

Hi Pinwizard! No I didn't download AOL. .......as of Friday afternoon getting the 'puter back from the "doctor" where he reformatted and reinstalled WIndows98 IE and Microsoft Office (and an antivirus ) ...I've had to reinstall all my "programs", all he could save was my documents. So, I got my e-mail back by callign Comcast, and the computer doc told me to reinstall the printer drivers from the Start-settings-blah blah. But I can't. WHen I use the wizard it says it can't find the files. The HP site says I HAVE the right files and won't let me download the driver. I have an old WIndows 3.1 printer installation disc (the printer is 5-6 yrs old) and the wizard won't let me install from that. I'm so confused...round and round with error messages...I told DD I give up....she's the one who needs the printer for homework. I might be nice and call the "doctor" back on MOnday, but it's so hard over the phone since I don't speak or understand "computer" too well!
DD did download AOLIM today with no trouble, I reinstalled ny old MS Money from the discs with no trouble. Siiiiiiiighhhhhhhhhh

Happy Sunday everyone. It's beautiful here. Family and a few of DD's GFs are coming over to celebrate her B-day...17 tomorrow I'm scurrying trying to get the stuff ready I'd intended to do yeserday when I got all wrapped up in the printer problem. DH is watchign the Bills at the moment beating the Patriots. I really don't like football. Can't wait until hockey season though!!

All of the high schools soccer teams, boys and girls, freshman JV and Varsity, were undefeated going into their 3rd games Friday against one of the league's larger/stronger schools...the first couple of opponents were not considered tough. 5 of the six teams are STILL undeafeated......but the Varsity girls were defeated 3-1. I guess it's mean, but I get some perverse satisfaction from it
DD has a crush on a midfielder from boy's varsity...so her not playing this year gives her a chance to watch them

Kaitlynn is a freshman soccer person......and because no one volunteered ......she did and is now a goalie.....she had a few days to practice and theyplayed their first game last thursday...well they lost 2-1 and she was broken hearted ......they asked her to play yesterday for JV ........and she had a good time......they won that is why.....hahaha....she played half the game and the JV goalie played the second half......oh well.......still wondering if it will take two or three weeks for my hot rice crackers to come.......big sigh here.......~~~~~day today is gorgeous......saw a bald eagle soaring in the big blue sky and a zillion motorcyles gong to the toy run at the state house......I think this is the one that they have tea with the governor.....they are good to donate all these toys for the needy at xmas.......last year they filled big truck trailers .....can't remember how many.....will report back to you tomorrow to tell you how many toys were donated this year......

Another work day finished. I just keep thinking "another day---another dollar for Disney".
Ann--try uninstalling the driver installed on your computer and then going to the priter site and downloading the drivers.....if you haven't thrown the whole thing out of the window, that is.
Wonder if Brandie's week-end went well? Hope so.

Guess I'll check back later to see if anyone else dropped in. It's just too quiet in the SD CL house...

Did that too Sue...at lest I think I did. How do you uninstall?? I deleted it from the Start>Settings>Printers. But even after that the HP site said I didn't nned an update Nothing seems to work. I keep thinking I am wasting my time - a LOT of time - when I could go get a new printer (0ne that will print pictures for me too ) plug it in, follow the directions and be done in an hour or so.

Ann--try this...

Start

Control Panel

Double click "faxes and printers"

Click on the printer icon.

You should get a drop down or sumpin' asking what you want to do with it. (In XP, on the left hand side, you get a drop down that includes "Delete this printer", but, I'm not sure which OS you're using, so, it may be different.) Anyway, delete that printer, (if I remember correctly--and I may not, since I"m getting so old--in other OS's, there was an option to "uninstall"--same thing)
and that should get rid of the printer, and the driver. Then, segin the re-installation process, using the new driver you download from HP.

A hint--we created a folder on our desktop titled "downloads" and that is where we put things like drivers, so that they are easy to find).

If this doesn't work--Target has several printers on clearance.

I have windows 98...and I think that's part of the problem was that it was all reformatted and everything had to be reinstalled. I deleted the printer from Settings>Printer again to try to start from scratch off the HP website...but it says there that the driver was detected and is built into my operating system and to install through Settings>Printer...when I go there it says it can't find the files. When I got it installed through the old disc I have, I get the message that the files or data can't be found or have been "corrupted". (TOLD you it was Debbie's fault! ) So I've been going round in these circles since Friday. I guess it's off to Target or BestBuy tomorrow night
Everyone gave DD money for her birthday, maybe SHE should go shopping for a printer

this weekend was just too beautiful...I love this weather
And I found lots of great bargains at tag sales this weekend....mostly some baby things cuz I'm having a baby on Thursday no kidding...I guess I forgot to tell you

Mike plays varsity soccer...they have started off with 2 wins which is unusual for our town hope they can keep it up

Ann if it were me I would have thrown the thing out the window already

OK, so I finally get a minute to call the compter doc back today about the printer problem, and his wife says no problem, they'll make me a CD with the driver on it and I can probably come pick it up tomorrow afternoon.
Or as DD says, I can take her to BestBuy tonight and buy a new printer.
