You could ask for a room with a balcony and/or an Epcot or water/pool view --- whichever is most important to you. Many of the S/D rooms don't have balconies and they charge extra for them. I happen to really love a balcony, so we think it's a big deal to get upgraded to a balcony room.
Personally, I wouldn't have the nerve to ask for a complimentary upgrade to Club Level --- too chicken and it's not that important to us. From reading these boards, it seems much, much less likely of getting it, and those rooms don't have balconies. (It's possible to get CL access and remain in a non-CL room, but I don't know how likely it is of getting this kind of upgrade as a basic level SPG, especially since they have a process where you can "use" your SPG points to upgrade to CL.)
It never hurts to smile politely and ask. We've gotten upgrades to balcony or patio rooms all 3 times that we stayed at S/D (we booked standard view). They seem to be able to do this much more than the Disney resorts. Good luck!
