fyi, just back from travel booked via AirTran that included a connecting flight home on a SWA flight.

I had purchased an assigned seat on AT for 1st leg of flight but still logged both myself and DH in shortly after the 24 hour point of the 1st leg of flight home.

When we got to SWA tix counter in BWI, was rather surprised to see my spot was A-16 ( even moreso to find DH was C-something or other..or as he put it the 3rd to last person to board:confused:). I did manage to save DH a seat (flight was sold out) but always have received sequential boarding #s when logging in on SWA site @ T-24 or purchasing EB in the past when on the same itinerary.

Curious as to whether the 'good' boarding position was attributable to logging into the initial AT flight five hours earlier, giving a possible jump on logging into the SWA flight. Another factor could be fact that few passengers would pay for EB on a such a short 50 minute flight.:confused3

For those concerned being separated from their family members on a AT booked SWA flight:

I was able to find a group of empty seats in front third of the plane, taking a middle seat to hold the window one. Several adults with a child in hand asked me to move over. I explained that my invisible husband was sitting in the window seat, but that the aisle seat was still open as was the one across the aisle. However, they all moved to the rear. When I later used the rear restroom I observed they seemed to have found seats together without the FA's needing to request seat switching.

Boarding assignments are a luck of the draw.

Just a few months ago I book a flight that was leaving in 8 hours. Since I was checking in within 8 hours of departure I was sure that we would get the "C" boarding. Nope I got at "A" board and DH got "B" and our flight was oversold so I would have thought we definantely should have gotten C but we didn't. As it turns out we volunteered to give up our seats on the oversold flight. And they gave us both the "A" boarding for the next flight.

Guess we've been lucky always getting sequential boarding numbers on SWA in the past...talk about lucky, nice score on the vouchers!

i forgot to mention that even though I had booked on AT when i checked in at the counter for the return flight home (1st AT, then SWA), I was surprised when told there would be no bag fees due on the AT portion of the flight.:)
