Sort of a dumb question..... When you pay for Southwest Early Bird Check-in is it still needed to check in at the 36 hour mark or is it autumatically done for you

Southwest automatically checks you in at the 36 hour mark.
You can then check at the 24 hour mark to see what you have been assigned and then can print out boarding passes, or you can wait til you get to the airport to have them printed out.
No...SW does not do assigned seats. Paying for EBCI will get you onto the plane faster. Those doing EBCI get checked in at the 36 hr window (SW checkes them in automatically). This means that those EBCI passengers are getting much lower boarding groups/numbers than those checking in at the 24 hr. window. Those 23 hr people will be behind the 36 hr people..thus stand a much better chance of getting the seats they want.
When using EBCI, you are boarded after the 'medical' preboards, unattended minors and business people paying the fully refundable fares (they get A1-15 spots). Those boarding after these people will start with A16 and up.
