SWA? Boarding Passes on Connecting Flights

How do boarding passes on connecting flights work?

I will be traveling with my DW, DD (7) and DS (4years and 360 days old). I could technically pre-board with a "child under 5" . But wasn't planning on it.

We will be flying from Albany, NY to Baltimore,MD and then onto Orlando. I am assuming we will have to change planes at BWI. We have a 40 min layover.

We will arrive at Albany in time to get borading passes for the A group. When do we get the passes for the flight from BWI?

We have the same situation but in reverse coming home.

My wife adn I were each going to take a child and meet in Orlando if we couldn't get seats together.

Currently you have to get a new boarding pass when you get to Baltimore. Chances are the flight to Orlando originated somewhere else. There will probably already be people in the plane and it's unlikely you'll be able to get an "A" boarding pass.

Does your iteniary show a stop or a connecting flight (a connecting flight will have a different flight number). If you're making a stop you'll stay on the plane and keep your seats.

Or.....go to the counter at your departing gate and get them there.

You will have to get new boarding pass's at BWI. They do have the kiosks there to use, but IMHO it's a real pain on connecting flights with SW. We've gotten A group out of Albany and wound up split between B and C groups at BWI. Especially if flying on a Rapids Reward free ticket as then you can not use the kiosks. I like flying SW, but now try to only do non-stops. If I have a connection now, I use an airline that I can get a pre-assigned seat.

I'm sure Gail will come along and fine tune this for us.

The same thing could have happened at the counter. They only give out so many of those A, B, C passes. Once we sky capped the luggage and got and A and B pass. Personally, I like the kiosks. We found them to be quick and easy.

SW had announced they are considering allowing you to get boarding passes for your connecting at the same time you get your boarding pass for your first leg.

Not sure when (or if) they'll implement this BUT under the current system people on a connecting flight wind up with a C pass most of the time.

Commonly refered to as the "Middle Seat Group" as often all the window and isle seats are taken by the time C gets there. Except of course for the seats just in front of the toilet.

So true! I did the BWI connection once for business. And the gate agent very cheerfully announced to all of us in the C group, that, C in fact, stands for Center Seat! That's just where I ended up, too.
