Any one Get Dinged by the move?
I surf Disboards but didnt see any other alert!
This isn't majic!

Thanks.......I haven't received an email from them in more than a week and the DINGS have been only until January.

I just booked our trip for April. $59 each way!! :cool1:

thanks for the heads up.

What does what mean? MK Familystone's original post? They're upset at the timing that Southwest chose to extend the available flight dates. SW only sells tickets a few months in advance of the actual flights, but they don't make any particular date available X number of days in advance. They 'open up' a few months of flights at apparently random times. The current timing is upsetting to some SW passengers because much 'disposable' income right now has been spent on Christmas gifts.

Thanks a great deal for you...and the good thing about it is it may even go cheaper. Congrats :goodvibes

There is a thread on the transporation board that tracks the history of Dings. It started on Nov 11, but it gives you a good look at when and where Dings come from. If you are looking at getting a Ding fare soon or sometime, it might be a good idea to subscribe to that thread.

Ding is a software program that you can download from www.iflyswa.com. Every so often, SWA releases a new "Ding" which is a discounted airfare. You only have a limited time to make your reservations if you see a city combination that you like. Sometimes, these Dings can be very substantial. They are kind of random and you have to watch them. I usually am lucky if I get one from Louisville once a month, but that ones I can catch really make it worthwhile. Once I saved over $500 on my air tickets. There is the thread on hear that tracks them if you are interested; it's in the transportation forum.

Also, you must go through the Ding software to get the discounted rates. The discounted rates don't show up anywhere on SWA normal reservation site. You have to click on the link in the Ding Downloaded software to get to the special page with the discounted rates.

Ugh! My April 8-15 flight from JAX to FLL is already over $150 - with no non stop return flight. Experienced SWA fliers - should I wait, or book now (we don't live in a SW city, are traveling to JAX to be with family, flying down for a cruise)?

That's how I understood it as well.

Honestly, people really expect SWA to delay releasing their flight schedule because people didn't budget money for their tickets AND their holiday gifts? The rest of the world is supposed to wait? Until when?

I've heard it all now. I guess I can see it being an inconvenice, but it seems kind of silly to direct irritation at SWA for your budget crunch!

We booked for April too at the 59.00 each way and DING did work.
They have dings being released as well for so far in advance? They must really have a lot of empty seats.

My latest DING was only January 1 - Feb 16 (or 13, can't remember).... but I am looking for tickets for later this Spring (not to MCO, sadly), so I will be hopping over to SWA website now. Thanks for the heads up!............P

As far as the timing of the schedule release, historically, they release through June in early December. But with the accident that happened around that time this year, I'm guessing that they decided to push the release back away from a sensitive time.

HI ALL!
SWA Historically has released in Dec between the 10th and 12th. for travel for the April School vacation week for New England states for the last 3 years.
The one way seats $99 or less usually sell out within 15 minues after 12pm on those days.
This release seem to me tto be a GIFT for the Travel Agents!!!!!
Good luck getting a reasonable fare!

Thanks! I had heard about the SWA Ding program, but didn't know how to install it. I've got it now--ready for the bargains!

This was the lates Ding I got. I need something for early May, otherwise we will be driving.

New Englander's also have a Feb. break and I booked that week the day those dates became available for around $200 each. Now the same flights are an additional $158 ($358 total). I highly doubt we'll be seeing any dings for those dates from MHT to MCO. Many of the flights are showing no availability (like our return flight) and are probably over-booked already. If you're in the market for spring break (end of Feb, March, or end of April) or Easter, I wouldn't count on dings - I'd book ASAP and take your chances because there may be no flights left to choose from otherwise.

We got a 59.00 rate a few days ago but when we just tried to add my daughters friend the flights gone.Must be full already.Darn.
