Question for everyone who flies out of Pittsburgh on Southwest to MCO... how early do we have to get to the check in kiosk in order to check our luggage in? We will already have our boarding passes.

We will be doing the early morning flight, leaving at 7:05am from PIT.

Also, when does SW start to line up people in order to board??? 30min before the posted departure time?

I think officially it's 30 minutes but I would get there by 6:00. Sometimes the security line is long. 30 minutes before departure is the typical boarding.

You're leaving Thursday morning?

I'd get to the airport no later than 5:30am, personally. That gives 30 minutes for checking the bag, 30 minutes to get through security and you should be to the gate right around the time they start lining up to board.

You may not need that entire hour, but I know I start getting antsy if I'm not in the airside terminal before the boarding window starts. Better to have too much time than too little.

I will be on the same flight from PIT just one week after you!! we plan on being at the airport btwn 5:15 & 5:30. that should allow plenty of time for checking bags and security. we will probably have some time to spare but I hate being rushed and always worry we will miss the flight due to some unforeseen event. have a great trip!!:yay:

Thanks everyone.

We actually drive over the evening before and stay at the Hyatt right at the airport. That way we just walk over and go up the escalator to check in.

I had very bad experience on SW when we tried it a few years ago. I am hoping this flight goes better.

I wish that SW had an area just for checking luggage at PIT. I am not worried about security, we usually get thru there quickly, or use alternate if it's available.

And yes, I am leaving this THursday. u:cool1:

If the line is long, go outside and curbside check. I've never done that at PIT but I have at MCO. Security can sometimes be bad that time of morning, even the alternate.

DH said we will use curbside checkin if necessary.

I just hope and pray this SW experience is better than the last time we tried it.

I just keep telling myself, it's only 2hrs to Disney. ;)

What went wrong last time? I've flown SW from PIT since before the current boarding procedure and haven't had any trouble.

Worst crew I've ever experienced flying domestic. Very ignorant crew who was trying to tell me how to deal with my child...my younger DD gets motion sick and started vomiting. We had it contained, and were doing fine until this flight attendant walked up, bent down and got in my face telling me that I am not to give my daughter anything to eat or drink. I said nothing and asked for nothing. Then she would continue to walk by and make comments like You better not be giving her anything... stuff like that. She had no clue what we were even dealing with!

Then because this FA made such a fuss, the people behind us stared laughing at us and carrying on. I was not happy.

This was 3yrs ago, so it was strictly SW way before they tookover AT. Everyone raved about SW, but after that flight, I can say I was not impressed.

We are only flying SW down because it's the early nonstop flight. We are flying home on AirTran.

I wouldn't rate an entire airline based on one crew member.

It was more than just 1 crew member...I just gave the main highlights. I didn't even mention what I observed on the flight home because it's simply not worth it to hash it all out here.
