Sw Connecting Flights ??

We have connecting flights each way on our trip to FL next month. We do not have layover time, just changing planes (30 minutes to change planes going down and 50 minutes to change planes coming back). How does this work with boarding passes? When we check in online 24 hrs prior to each flight, do we get boarding passes for the connecting flight at the same time? Do we have to check in again somewhere before connecting? We have only ever flown on direct flights. Any help is appreciated.

When you check in you will be checking in & getting boarding passes for both legs of your flight.

where are you changing planes?

we had to switch in BWI once and it was soooo easy! we got off at one gate, took three steps and bingo! we were at the next gate... and trust me, i had horrific anxiety thinking it was going to be some big logistical nightmare... and it wasn't! i was pleasantly surprised!

If you are flying domestically and have to change planes to another flight on the same airline, this usually isn't a problem, as the gates should be close together in the same area of the airport.

We have only ever flown on direct flights.

You are confusing direct flights with non-stop flights, two different things. A direct flight may have stops and plane changes, a non-stop does not.

You only have to check in for the first leg. When you reach the gate for the next leg of your flight, you do not need to check in again.

Just to be clear, you check in 24-hours before you first flight, and get boarding passes for all legs. The good news is that by checking in more than 24-hours before the conncting flight, you almost certainlly get A passes. The bad news is they may already be boarding by the time you get to the new gate.

Additionally, when you have to switch planes, the new plane will very likely be an arrival from another airport with PAX continuing onto your destination, so many will already be on the plane when you board.
