Survivor - Guatemala

I thought one of the rules of the hidden idol was, you had to show it if you had it, before the vote. Otherwise, I think Gary would have held it back, thinking that maybe whoever got the second highest vote # would then go (i.e., Jamie or Steph or whoever the outcasts voted for).

I would love to see Gary still compete, even if he already has immunity--he's a string player, and could save whoever he wanted. I'm hoping for Danni--I think she's a strong competitor, too. I think the fairly strong "alliance of 6" will start crumbling pretty fast once they have to start eating their own.

The sad thing is that unless Jeff says something, they may never know Gary has been lying to them the whole time.

I was disappointed that Steph lied to Gary, but now they will never know. She couldn't vote for him.

If I'm not mistaken, Gary DOES own a landscaping business...so he's not lied, just not told his whole story.

This is what I found in the episode 8 recap explaining the other immunity idol:
"The tribe was stunned to learn there was a hidden individual Immunity idol somewhere in the jungle. The rule: In addition to any individual Immunity won at a Challenge, you can use the small stone idol to save yourself at Tribal Council. The idol must be used before the vote, and it expires when the tribe is down to the Final Four."

It doesn't say whether or not you give it back once you use it or not. Hmm.....

So maybe it is only one use only. :confused3

I sure hope they explain these things better to the people involved. :rolleyes1

He has been asked flat out if he used to be a NFL quarterback by Danni (sp). And that was in front of more than one person. He lied, no mistake, no half truth.

I wouldn't say it is as bad as lying on the island about alliances and such, but it was a flat out lie.

Remember that Steph said, "I'll let you know, if I know" or something to that effect. Duh, does she really think he thinks she isn't in the loop?

Gary voted for Cindy. I have no idea why.

She was a safe vote. He didnt want to vote against Bobby Jon but if he voted for Steph, Jamie or Judd he would not have chance to maybe get in on the alliance. He doesnt really have a chance anyway I dont think but no need to make sure your own throat is cut.

I've not seen every episode, so I was not aware of that. Thanks.

It does not say it has unlimited use just that you can save yourself at TC and it must be used before the final four.

Could somebody tell me what happened yesterday on Survivor I missed it because I was Working.

Also if you go to cbs.com they have great weekly recaps of each show.

Welcome back Zurgswife! Nice to see you posting again!!!

I think the hidden immunity idol was a once and done thing. I believe Jeff said something to the effect that if you used it correctly, it could guarantee you a spot in the final 4. It didn't automatically get you to the final 4. If Gary had found it sooner, he might of been able to use it as a bargaining chip, as a way of getting players to turn on the 6 alliance by giving them the immunity idol if they voted with him. He just didn't have the time to work something like that out, he needed to save his head that night and therefore had to use it to guarantee 3 more days. I don't think he has immunity any longer.

I like Gary, and I think he is playing a smart game, but yes he has flat out lied to a few people about being a quarterback. Everyone else has lied too in the game, so I don't think it will hurt him too much.

I don't think it will ever hurt him because he may never have to reveal the truth until after the show. Lucky for him, he looks different enough to get away with the lie. Should make for an interesting reunion show. :rotfl2:

I also like him, but I doubt he'll win. Just strong enough to be a threat (and get voted off becasue of it), but not strong enough to win those final endurance challenges.

Well, I replayed that part of the tape (still have it on my VCR old tape) and it doesn't make it clear whether or not it is a one-time use idol. :) Guess we'll have to see how that plays out.

I did remember hearing someone say last night a comment about having the idol would make sure you got to the final four. I'll have to go back & replay that part to see who was talking & what/when it was said.

Can't wait till next week! :)

The other thing with Gary lying about his past is interesting because Dani knows who is truly is. I read an article in TV Guide in the last couple of weeks where they interviewed Probst & Burnett & they said that she even mentioned his name in her interview and said that she had visited the shrine to him in either his hometown or at his college--something to that effect.

So even if he is lying to everyone else, she knows who is he is and I wonder if that is something they talked about privately (& it wasn't shown on air) or what? I can't imagine knowing that info about a player & keeping it a secret through the entire game--should be interesting!

cindy nailed it on the head last night.

EVERYONE lies in Survivor...it just comes down to "who can lie better"

Steph said that last night. She told Judd "If you find that idol, you're guaranteed to the final four." And I could swear that Jeff said it last week. But, they replayed the tree mail from last week and it sounded like it was a one-time use thing. That could have been in the editing. So, I really don't know. I guess we'll find out next week.

It is part of the game. You have to lie to stay in the game.

As at least one person has stated, the hidden immunity can only be used once. Once it has been used it is null and void. Probst mentioned the Final 4 when talking about the idol because it could be used one time at any point until it got to the Final 4. Now that Gary found it and used it, the idol is no longer an issue. They would enver have a twist that would give someone in the Final 9 a free pass to the final 4. Gary can be voted for next week unless he wins the weekly immunity challenge. IMO, next week will either be gary's week to go home, or the Nakum 6 will realize that there is no harm in getting rid of one of their own and boot Jamie (this is what I think the promo with Lydia and hard decisions was alluding to).

Someone earleir stated that they don't like this season as much as past seasons. I have to admit that this has been the most enjoyable season for me since Survivor 7 (Pearl Islands). Despite my dislike for the overrated Rupert, I thought it was a great season.

I was going to comment on why Stephanie made the comment that she made, but my argument makes no sense. I'm going back to lurk mode now.

Maybe it's a college shrine. He is in Central Michigan U. Hall of Fame. Maybe?
