Surprise... It's Someday!! A Dec 2010 PTR!!

I am so sorry and can't believe that your family, especially your dad, handled things like they did. I am sure you are right in that for your dad, it is sadness/lonliness on his part that is speaking, rather than his true feelings for you. But it still wouldn't hurt any less. And for others to worry about how you're spending your money - ugh. I wish people would learn to mind their own business when it came to those kinds of things. Unless you are constantly involving people in your finances, they should not assume it's any of their business. *sigh*

I am also praying for your little Brenda, that everything goes well next week and it is truly nothing to worry about!

Oh my goodness, I hope she is ok!! And can I mention how I HATE when people especially your own family try to tell you how you should spend your money!! :headache:

Anyway the kids will have an awesome time and you all deserve it!! :goodvibes

Welcome!
As I said before..the man who is now in my dad's body is not the man that was alive before my mom died. He never would have hurt me so much. To call his only child an idiot... It was just too much for me. Honestly, I think he has a sad life and pretends it's all peachy keen. I understand that he misses us all, but life is choices...choices have consequences... He didn't choose so wisely by moving to MN and now regrets it but that is where his wife's family is from.

Exactly -he CHOSE to move there, he cannot expect you to come there for your vacation. That is YOUR CHOICE. If he wants to see you so badly, he can come to you...which is easier than dragging children cross country anyway! How sad for him that he's living that way though...:sad2:

I had been hoping to get another installment up for you all tonight. I usually write them in a notebook during the day and then type them in at night. This helps me organize my thoughts. Well, I didn't get anything written today. Gavin has been sick. On top of that Brenda has been having a rough day too. I haven't mentioned it before but next Tues Sept 7 we have to take Brenda to the Children's hospital. She has a lump on the back of her neck that her pediatrician is concerned about and wants her to see a specialist. I first found it around Thanksgiving and it was the size of a small pimple. Last month it is the size of the end of my finger. It has more than doubled in size. On top of that she has lost over 9 lbs in this time frame and lately she has been getting nose bleeds. Not sure if they tie in or not but she had many nose bleeds today. So I keep telling myself its nothing to worry about now. I have to believe that everything will be good...that it is nothing. If not I will spend the next week worrying about both of the kids. So, In short, I had my hands full and didn't get to write anything today. I guess that means I owe you an extra installment. :rolleyes1

Oh man! Don't worry about an update, you've got enough on your hands. I'll be praying for both your kiddos!

I hope your daughter is ok! My son recently had something similar. He had a swollen lymph node on the left side of his neck. First his doc put him on antibiotics to see if that would help, and it didn't. She gave it a month and nothing changed. Then he had blood tests done, and they came back fine, so she referred him to an Ear Nose and Throat doctor. He wanted to give it another month, and it only got bigger. He said that the only option was to remove it to biopsy it, since a needle biopsy wouldn't be accurate. My son had it removed last Thursday. He is only 2 so they put him out completely, and it took abotu 45 minutes. He was a bit out of it when he woke up, but he was never in any pain, and he never needed anything stronger than children's tylenol. His surgery was at 7:30 am and by 10 am we were home and he was running around like normal. The pathology came back, and it appears fine, but his post op appt is tomorrow, so we will get the details then. The doctor said this is actually quite common in kids. I hope that info helps you a little, I know I was super nervous about the surgery, and everyone here was so sweet! Someone designed a get well letter for my son from Mickey and I gave it to him with a bunch of balloons, and he was so excited that Mickey actually wrote to him! Another DISer even sent him a get well postcard. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me and I will answer as best I can! I will keep your family in my prayers!

Gosh! I got way behind.
I knew something seemed weird when you put the stipulations up. I was pretty sure you were going early Dec...and I bet you have free dining!

Family can suck sometimes. Even if they didn't like the idea of you going, they should've just said yippee and let it go. Don't let it get you down.
As for your dad...I read somewhere how men who had wonderful marriages and then the wife dies...tend to re-marry very fast after. It had soemthing to do with mourning, and looking for that comfort and love he had...only most can't really get it from the new wife in the same way...as it is too early in grieving experience. (you shouldn't even really date till after a year)

I will be keeping you in my thoughts this next week. Hopefully it is just something simple.

I will keep you and Brenda in my prayers and hope it is nothing. Don't worry about updayes.. we all know the kids come first!!!

Here's hoping and praying that it is nothing to worry about with Brenda and something very minor. You do have your hands full and do not need to worry if you don't get an installment up each day (I went days before updating my PTR on numerous occasions).

I have my fingers crossed. I am sure it has to be nothing... at least that is what I keep telling myself. The PTR actually helps me escape. Its my little bit of time each day to simply sit and dream. It allows me to be, at least in mind, completely devoted to Disney. I know that might sound crazy, but I have to tell you that Jon decided on the trip as much for me as the kids. He knows I am "super planner". Its always been an escape for me to just go there in my mind while trying to figure things out. I have always been the ones to plan vacation since I was about 13ish. And I must admit, I am pretty good on researching and finding things...after all I found the Di board didn't I? :rotfl:

I will keep you and your kids in my thoughts and prayers!

Thank you. We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers we can get. I am trying very hard to stay positive about things. Its hard because I am a worrier by nature.

I try to tell myself a lot that he really didn't mean to call me an idiot...but its always there. Our relationship has changed so much since he started to change. I feel sorry for him sometimes. I really do. He'll always be my dad...I just wish he could really be happy and not just pretend. I think it eats him up that when he moved I didn't move with him. I think that is what he saw happening in his mind. We thought about it but I just couldn't stand the cold all the time. I know PA has its issues too but its home.

Thank you for the prayer.

I think it is one thing had they kept their feelings to themselves but to actually think that they should tell me how to spend the money that JON works for was CrAzY. It would also be different if we were the kind of people that were always asking to borrow money. We have only borrowed money 1 time in the 12 years we have been married. It was for 1 1/2 weeks because we needed 2 new tired to pass inspection and it was paid back at the very next payday. I think that is pretty good. We don't use credit cards. Did in college and learned that it takes forever to get them paid off. We only depend on ourselves, but family thinks they get a vote... maybe I better not get started on that one! :scared1:  :sad2: All that matters is the kids will love it, I will love it...and Jon will love it. Not to mention, Jon works hard. He deserves a vacation the most!

I did tell him to come on in. We would love to have him and his wife. We have always welcomed them. I even gave them our dates and told them if they wanted to go with us it would great to have them. Explained how we are doing it and saving money. He want nothing to do with that. I should also tell you that money is no issue for my dad and his wife. They are constantly taking vacation. If it were with my grandkids I would be eager to jump on a WDW vacation. They have mentioned coming in to PA in Oct...I guess we will wait and see.

Thank you so much for the prayers.

Thank you. Origianlly we thought it was a lymph node also. It isn't what they call "rolling" though. They did a scan and it is attached to something. The new dr will get more into that with us. I am hoping it was wrong and it is still just a lymph node gone bad. I can handle that so much better. I keep telling myself it is nothing and everything is going to be alright. We have known about the appt for about 2 months so I have made it this far.

How did the Post Op appt go??

Thank you for your prayers.

I will kinda spoil something here, but yes! Thanks to the Disboards we got free dining. I will tell the whole story in an upcoming installment.

My dad certainly fits the profile. My mom died June 18 and dad remarried Jan 18... 7 months to the day. He, point balnk, told me he couldn't stand to be alone. The thing that kinda ticks me off now is sometimes he wil bad mouth my mom. Something else don't put up with. I think he just does this trying to convince himself that things weren't as great as they were. In fact, Brenda is named after my mom. For the first year he refused to call her Brenda. It was CrAzY. I mean he had cute little nicknames for her, but never Brenda.

Thank you for the prayers. We are so grateful for them.

I will keep you and Brenda in my prayers and hope it is nothing. Don't worry about updayes.. we all know the kids come first!!!

Thanks. I am hoping to get another installment up today.

Just got caught up on your report. Good luck with the kiddos.
Thank you. Hoping to get another post up soon!

Hello again! I hope I haven't lost anyone yet. Things here have been super hectic. Brenda's appt is next week and Jon finally got in to the Oral Surgeon and will have all 4 wisdom teeth out on Sept 14. I know that will make him feel better...after that life should slow down a little and be back to just plain CrAzY.

In my last installment, I promised I would get to the Gavin story, so...

A few weeks after booking and telling the family, I was an active member of hte Disboard. I would share all my finds with Jon... but in code. We were going to surprise the kiddos with the trip. We weren't 100% sure what we were going to do to surprise them but we knew we were not going to tell them just yet. We knew we would be asked everyday if it was time to go (which does happen daily). We would speak in codes that really were more character based. Like "I found out today that our MM place is going to be decorated for Christmas". Sometimes Jon wouldn't even get the code. :rotfl: but remeber Gavin has above average intelligence! :rotfl2:

If came time for Gavin to have to have a procedure done at the hospital. I assumed he would be put to sleep like always. When I got the info I found that he would not be put to sleep. :scared1: The day comes and I take Gavin to the hospital to have it done. They put him in his little hospital gown and start. I am allowed to be in the room holding his hand. Gavin is getting very upset and I am talking away... trying very hard to calm him down. Finally, I am snuggling at his head and his is calm. The nurse starts talking about how much of a big boy he is and how nasty it is what they are doing (I'm thinking...be QUIET I just got him calmed down). Gavin looks up at her and says "It's ok. WE ARE GOING TO DINSEY WORLD". For him it sounds more like "Disney Weld". I couldn't believe it. I had to ask him to repeat it. He said it again. The nurse was wondering why I was so surprised. I told her that we had never told him. He had pieced all the clues together and figured it out. I was floored! I did have to break the bad news that it was going to be a long time till we got to go. This was March. We still had a long time.

When I got home and told Jon he didn't believe me! He thought I was joking so I had Gavin tell him where we were going. Jon thought I had told him but I reminded him that it was my idea to keep it a secret. The little bugger had figured it all our on his own.

We then had to tell Brenda. She told us that Gavin had already told her. :rotfl2: :lmao: Parents are always the last to know. Gavin never stops amazing me. We did tell them when we were going...and every day since we get asked the same question... "Is today the day we go to Disney World (or Weld if Gavin is asking)?"

So the award for the smartest 2 year old cookie in this CrAzY family goes to Gavin!!!

Up next, more trip info!

Tammy, I absolutely love this story. Leave it to our kids...they really are smartie pants and it is very hard to pull anything over them. So are you keeping the where you are staying? where you are eating? away from them or are they now part of the planning?

Absolutely hysterical!! Love it! :lmao::rotfl2:

I never realized how smart Gavin is. I really have to keep up with him. He actually has his own Leapster Game System and does really well with some of the learning games on it. Once things settle for him, the dr has suggested we have him tested to see exactly where he falls with his intelligence. I can tell you, I have to watch everything I do or say with him. Brenda picks up things but I would expect that since she is 4.

We mention things here and there but all the kids really pay attention to is that we are going. They will tell me lists of characters they want to see...and sometimes they aren't all Disney. I guess I haven't done a good job at teaching them what characters count! :rotfl2:

I thought it was pretty cute since I was there for it. I might have been disappointed had I just heard the story and not actually been there to see his face light up when he told the nurse. It was a priceless moment.

Thank you for the prayers. We are getting so close to Tuesday. I will be glad when we can turn our backs on this chapter with Brenda.

What a smarty pants! It's amazing what kids pick up. Sometimes we just don't realaize how much they listen to us.

That is hilarious, what a smart little boy you have there. I could never keep it a secret... I have a big mouth

oh my gosh, too funny that he figured it out!! and never told you! :rotfl: that's kids for ya!;)

so was he excited?

I hope all was well with the procedure and hope your daughter is okay- where is her appt?

I guess it really just goes to show that I need to be more sneaky about things. :rotfl2:

I am sure that somewhere along the line I must have slipped about it. I can't remember doing it but obviously he picked up on it. :rotfl:

He was excited but he had that whole "no big deal" attitude which I thought was funny...kinda like we take him once a month. It was his face that gave it away. It totally lit up when he talked about it and even more so when the nurse came back with a huge pile of those big square Mickey stickers.

Brenda goes on Tuesday to the Children's Hospital in Danville. Its about 1 1/2 hours from here. This is where Gavin goes and sees his drs, other than his local pediatrician. She knows she is going and so far is ok with everything. She asked today if she is going to get a Littlest Petshop when she is done. We always get Gavin a Lightening McQueen or Mater when he has something done there. I am not really sure what all they are going to do to her that day. I just know she is seeing a specialist and her pediatrician told us they will try to do as much as they can that day so that we aren't making a ton of trips back and forth. I know when we take Gavin they try to fit in all the Xrays, scans, and blood work so that we don't have to turn around and come right back the next day.

Thank you. Origianlly we thought it was a lymph node also. It isn't what they call "rolling" though. They did a scan and it is attached to something. The new dr will get more into that with us. How did the Post Op appt go??

Thank you for your prayers.

The post op was fine, the doc said all the results that were in were good, they are still growing some cultures, and those results aren't in yet, but they seem to be normal. He said that there is no indication as to what caused this, and if it happens again... they will follow the same routine. The scar doesn't seem to be bothering Jack at all! I hope everything goes well for Brenda! I'll keep your family in my thoughts!
