Surprise, Honey! You're Taking Me to WDW! (6/10) Coming Soon, to a DISboard Near You!

If you use the points in September does that hurt your point situation next June? Will that make you have to borrow points or anything? If it doesn't hurt or impact future points, I would just stick with them, then you are not laying out more money.

Also, WVL, Artist Point, the boat to MK, etc are good perks for a nice, relaxing, romantic birthday celebration.

We could really use the points if we want to have a nice long stay. As it is, we're going to have to borrow a few... well, about half a year's worth, of points from the 2011-2012 use year for our nine-night family vacation. That's why I'm angsting over it!

If we use points for the birthday weekend we may need to reduce our June vaca to seven nights.

Kathy

I'm sorry, Kathy, I'm with Tracy on this one. If you wont' mess up your points for next June, I'd say use them. But, really, that trip in June is supposed to be long and relaxing. Remember? Don't cut yourself short on it.

See? It's a tough decision!

Ah, if only I could have my cake and eat it, too! :cake:

I know. Whichever one you go with, you're having to pay for it. AH well, you could eat the cake, but it might not sit too well after it's gone. KWIM?

Oh if you are borrowing that many points, I think (if I had the money) I would go with the code. I wouldn't cut the family vacation short.

Trust me, Liesa, I do!

A romantic getaway sounds so lovely... and its not that we don't deserve it... but then I get to thinking about the $$$ and I get cold feet!

Kathy

EXACTLY! Kathy, seriously, I about had a cow when you said it was half the year!!!!! This is like paying your taxes on a credit card.

Hmmmm... what else could you cut out, between now and then to make up $410?? Soda pop? Buy cheaper bread at the outlet store?? Hmmm.../???

...if I had the money! Aye, there's the rub! pirate: I really don't.

Good news, though. I have a line on a possible full-time job which may help me out of my little quandry. I will know more on Thursday!

Everyone please keep fingers and toes crossed! ;)

Kathy

I would use the code. As you know DVC weekend points are much higher. Thats what I am doing in Sept, Fri and Sat at POP and Sun,Mon and Tues at WL in a studio using points. Hope the $$$ works out :)

:rotfl:

I've actually been saving here and there for a while... But I'm like a squirrel who sees the pile of nuts slowly growing and is now having second thoughts about eating any of them! :squirrel: (I feel like I should save them for the June trip!)

Let me explain the points thing a little further... it's not as bad as it sounds!

Everyone's DVC use year differs due to when the contract was purchased. Our use year happens to be August through August.

If we have our nice, long vacation at the end of June, 2011, we wouldn't realistically plan another until at least the summer/fall of 2012, so we would already be into the following use year and have more points we could use.

We're used to using our points in the DVC version of Value or Regular Season. Now that we are choosing not to take the kids out of school we must vacation in one of the Peak seasons, thus, we won't get as much value from our points. I plan to make up for that by vacationing every 1 1/2 years instead of every year for a while.

June is still better, point-wise, than Christmas Week, which is "Premiere" season!

We've got our DVC for another 35 years, so eventually we won't have to vacation around the kids' school schedules! ;)

I'm happy that you are planning another trip to WDW. I know you wanted to go before next June. Celebrating your birthday will make it a special trip.

OK, that totally makes sense about the year and a half thing. THen I'd say use 'em up, and have a ball!

Thanks!

Oh, for sure! The weekends are killers when it comes to points needed, but I'm in a bind childcare-wise and the birthday trip would have to be on a weekend.

That's why I would love to use the code and save those points! :thumbsup2

I love DVC, but sometimes it can be a pain...

Hi Bill!

Thank goodness you're here... this thread needs some testosterone! :rotfl:

Seriously, I need a man's opinion...

Do you think I'm doing the right thing making all these plans and not telling Ed? My fall back position is that if I can't save the money we'll need, I'll just cancel the birthday weekend and concentrate on the family trip in June.

What do you think?

Kathy

Love it!

Borrowing points isn't exactly like borrowing money. It doesn't cost anything.

We get a set number of points to use in each use year. We can bank or borrow them within reason.

We make relatively small monthly payments on our contract and it will be entirely paid up in about four more years. Then we only pay an annual maintainence fee and can coast for the next 31 years! :thumbsup2

Kathy

Hi Kathy and Happy Belated Mother's Day! Hope you were showered with love from your sweet family!

Woo-hoo on the parasailing! You are a braver woman than I am!

I'm kinda leaning towards using the code so as not to shorten your nice long family vacation. That is, if you can swing it.

Have you thought about getting the TIW card? If you are getting APs you can get it for $75 and then save 20% off your meals (including alcohol) - might be a good cost savings for both trips - especially with the signature places on your birthday weekend and then with the 9 days of eating - with the whole family....that can add up quick. Could be a better value than the dining plan for sure! Just throwing out some more Disney math for you to think about!

Hmmm. :scratchin Verrry interesting....

(And a happy Mother's Day to you, too, Sara!)

Kathy

Sure! I think you are doing the right thing since you are the one that is saving money. It would be another story if you made the plans and expected Ed to pay for the trip. Ed should know better anyway because he is the one that got you hooked on Disney. If Ed doesn’t want to go, I will!:woohoo::yay::)

First off, I love the title of your update! I laughed as soon as I saw it because I knew where you were headed with it!

As far as the code quandry, I am not sure what I would do about it. Will saving an extra $410 be really hard to do?
