Surprise announcement update!

A free day at a resort would be a big deal for me as an AP holder. High-season Monorail deluxe resort room for a day is a substantial amount of money.

DVC -- well, they bought into the dream. Maybe they'll give the DVC members a one-month break on their maintenance fees...

Here's my prediction after seeing the latest commercials that asked, "What would you do if you had one more day? How many more memories could you make?" ....or something like that.

I think that you will get an extra day with your vacation package. For example, book a 4-day vacation package and get 5-days. Won't do much for DVC or AP holders but seems to fit....

That would be a real bummer for those of us who have our vacations booked already. I can't change my flights now.

Even if that tweet wasn't meant to throw us off, and it actually has to do with the promo. 24 could mean 24 hours. And that doesn't have to mean the park/parks will be open 24 hours. It could mean the free day thing. Just b/c they say Disney hasn't done it before. Doesn't mean it can't be a tweak on the free day thing.

That supports the lame 24 hours on leap day rumor... As far as I know no Disney park has ever remained open for 24 hours. But if that's the much-hyped announcement I think it may just be Disney's most epic fail ever - all this buzz for an "event" that only effects one day, with less than 60 days advance notice!

Actually, as I said before, Disneyland stayed open for 24 hours to celebrate its anniversary in 1985. So it has been done before, at least once that I know of.

Of course, that was just Disneyland, and not Magic Kingdom. So maybe including both would be a first.

Would this 24 hour day begin at 12:01 am on 2/29 and close at 11:59 pm on 2/29? That would be a true 24 day for the 29th. They could close at 8 or 9 pm on the 28th, enough time to clean, etc. and then have enough time to clean up after the 29th?

I also don't think it's buy it this year and get it free next year. That's too costly for a company to do.

I saw that commercial as well and agree. I think if you book a certain package, they will match you one extra day, resort, dining plan, park ticket, etc

I just booked a 6 day/7 night at WL for Nov w/ dining plan. If this comes up available for me, I wonder if adding a day or waiting for a different promo would be better

Yes, I will be curious how this compares to other deals. We're booked for March with Free Dining...

if the rumours are true - and it seems 99% certain they are, then its not an exciting announcement and its not really a surprise anymore either.

But, consider the thousands of guests who have AP's.

Free hopping... less than a biggie.

But AP holders aren't the target market for any promotion. They're already hooked. An announcement on a non-Disney oriented, highly watched program (even if it is on a Disney-owned network) is likely going to target Joe Average, not AP holders or fanatical DIS fans. That's why I am having a hard time believing the 2/29 24hr rumor - it just doesn't have very broad appeal, between the families who can't even keep their kids going long enough to see Wishes or won't pull them out of school and the people who need more than 2 months' notice to get vacation time approved and the budget-conscious travelers who would balk at "last minute" airfares. The 24hr thing seems like it would appeal mainly to adults, die-hard Disney fans, and locals/passholders who don't have to make travel arrangements, and those just aren't demographics Disney usually courts with their big promotions.

Unless it is part of a larger promotion, 24 hours on 2/29 just doesn't seem worthy of the hype Disney is drumming up for this.

True. Same here, I can't change my travel plans to even add the extra day off from work. But if this is what it ends up being, I will definitely see about modifying my existing reservation so that I can get the free day if it applies to my vacation dates.

I would hope whatever the announcement is, it would actually be something that those with APs or DVC could enjoy as well!

Getting an extra day would really help us. We'll be at AKL for 3 nights but don't have any Disney parks planned, we had planned to stay at a Disney resort to get our Disney fix but use our Sea World passes and just visit SW, but, if we could pay for one day at Disney and actually get two....we might reconsider the Disney parks!

If it is them adding an extra day to your package (like buy four get get fifth free) if I've already paid for my package (when we are going in june) will we get a partial refund or are we just out of luck?
