My family is planning a surprise 70th birthday party for my Mom. She thinks she's going ballroom dancing, but really she's going to her party. LOL!!!  Anyway, does anyone have any ideas on how to make a special Mom's party...extra special?!?:wizard: We've already booked a DJ and we were thinking of making some photo collages. Thanks for any ideas!!:sunny:

Either do a kind of "display" or a family skit or speech, of what it was like every 10 years of your Moms life.

For instance, find out who the Pres was, the price of a gallon of milk, house, movies/entertainment of the day, etc. Repeat for every 10 years. I bet it will bring back memories....

Dig out some old pic's from her life. Have them restored and or blown up to 8x10's. Maybe some other (older) family members will have some "interesting" ;) pictures of her. Display them.

Have family/friends write a paragraph of a nice/funny memory of your Mom. Assemble them in a scrapbook.

(For a display, you could cut out pictures of the above ideas and glue on to tagboard. )

I don't know if you sent out the invites yets...but if you didn't you could ask that each person write her a note, whether it is a poem, a story about something that happened with them and your mom, or just some sweet thoughts. You can collect them and arrange it in a scrapbook and give it to her at the party.

For my moms we had it out in a restaurant/hall and we included in the invite asking everyone to please write down their favorite memory of something to do with them and my mom and mail them to us by a certain date, we put them all in a binder and gave them to her....of course everyone brought gifts anyway and it was so funny because everyone who gave cash gave 70.00 and the gift certs were for 70.00 and my mom asks me "why is everyone giving me 70.00"....I was like "duh, you are 70, you get $1.00 per year!"

We just celebrated my father's 75th and I got a penny from each year (used eBay!) and I also made him a scrapbook with 75 reasons to celebrate your birthday.

Thanks for all of your great ideas. Last night we got 5 posterboards and made photo collages, 1 of just Mom, 1 of her and Dad, 1 of kids and grandkids, 1 of funny memories of herself and friends and 1 of her travels. They came out really nice.

I went to our local COSTCO where they sell beautiful roses for $13 for 2 dozen roses. I got a huge variety of colors and types of roses. I got a huge galvanized washtub container. I made sure to put a garbage can liner inside the wash tub and got some oasis (the green stuff you get in flower arrangements) and starting putting the roses in an arrangement. I of course put 90 roses in there and it turned out beautiful. And I am not a florist by any means. What woman would ever dream of getting 70 or 90 roses in her lifetime? The gift was fairly inexpensive, but it is still talked about to this day by all that saw it. My grandma fondly remembers her gift, and it lasted for well over a week. If you can find some inexpensive roses and something to put them in (I chose the washtub because we all remember my grandma hanging laundry...she loved doing laundry....) I say go for it!! But if you do this, take an ariel picture of your creation. We did not do this and the pictures taken of it at eye level did not do it justice!!!! Good luck!!
