Surf and Turf Disney Style…..30 days of food on land and at sea! 06/16 WPE

Karin! I like your style!:thumbsup2

I'm craving those cheesy nibbles and a glass of white wine....

Karin I had the Filet, but no risotto. I don't like mushrooms. The food was good, I just wasn't hungry.

I don't like cheese soup or sausage & it's also not something I'm allowed to eat anyway. I bet that your pretzel bread is so much better! I had lots of good bread when we went to Toronto. :cloud9:

Good to hear that at least the food was good. It's a shame there are things you are not allowed to eat. But at least you can enjoy yummy bread!

We also ate at Le Cellier this Aug. We have eaten there before so when the bread basket came out I was so disappointed, I was so looking forward to the breadsticks...those and the cheddar cheese soup is why I really like it there. We also had the filet and everyone enjoyed it.

Karin...I just made reservations for WDW for Aug 17 - Sept. 3. Aren't you going to be there then, maybe we can get together!

We could not believe the "sad" breadbasket, when it arrived. But at least the filet was good! :thumbsup2

YES, we will be at WDW from Aug 17 - 24, :woohoo: then we head off to the Dream again for another back to back cruise, returning on September 2. We will drive to the Florida Keys August 11 - 17 and then stay at OKW. Where are you going to stay? Tom and I would love to meet up with you guys ..... you aren't going on a cruise this time, are you?

Yea a new report!!!

Glad you like it! I am trying to work my way through this one without any long delays! :thumbsup2

Those Mickey cheese crackers look good....I could go for some right now!

They are really pretty good! But then ...... how can something Mickey shaped NOT be good! ;) :lmao:

Ooh, I like the look of the Mickey Chocolate Mints, I must get some of those

Thanks for the Hidden Mickey in the crackers :goodvibes

They are nice little individual pieces of chocolate, but like everything sweet in the US, they are VERY sweet! ;) :goodvibes

I remember the rain that night...WOW!!!! We made the best of it though. We were on our way from DHS to MK when it started. We ended up taking the monorail over to Poly to wait it out and get a bite to eat. I swore it would never end.
It did let up and we fianlly made our way over.

This is how attractive one looks while walking around MK after a big rain

drenchedrats.jpg

It came down in buckets, didn't it? But at least you are at WDW, so who really cares about the rain?

I tend to check receipts too. We had a mishap of sorts once too. Of course it happened when I sent ds to use a snack credit... he was getting one snack for himself and they deducted two. I immediately went back and with the help of the manager, he made it right...but yes! Check those receipts! If I had not, we would have lost one of our precious snack credits and not realized where it had happened. :goodvibes

I was so happy I checked the receipt - we would have had a lot of left over credits and a charge to our KTTW.
Not that 24$ would break the bank, but we would not have bought all those sweets hadn't we had the snack credits! ;) :lmao:
So, PLEASE, check your receipts! :thumbsup2

Yummy snacks! :thumbsup2

I'm glad you checked your receipt and were able to pay with snack credits in the end.

The poor CM was earning her ears and she was really flustered about the whole thing.
We didn't mind too much as long is it was taken care of! ;)

Karin! I like your style!:thumbsup2

I'm craving those cheesy nibbles and a glass of white wine....

You know we found a Publix, that sells Silverado wine (my favourite) and it was so relaxing to sit out on the veranda, glass in one hand and little cheesy Mickey heads in the other! :cloud9:

Day 7, August 19

Breakfast at Denny's

Again, we didn't feel like following the "plan", so we wanted to get some offsite breakfast. Denny's came to mind. We have always liked the food there and it brings back memories of California, as this was our VERY first experience with American food (apart from McD! ;) :lmao:)

We went to the Denny's at Crossroads and were seated in a booth immediately.

IMG_0879.jpg

I ordered some hot tea and Tom had some coffee and then we explored the menu and this is what we found.

IMG_0878.jpg

Pancake Puffs, six bite-sized round pancakes rolled in a delicious blend of cinnamon and sugar and served with warm syrup for dipping. They sounded interesting on the menu so we shared an order and they were really nice. Crisp and sweet on the outside and chewy on the inside. The perfect sugar rush! :thumbsup2

They had a few specials and so I ordered this ......

IMG_0881.jpg

I ordered the Florida peaches, French Toast Skillet, two thick slices of their fabulous French Toast, topped with caramelized peaches, served with two scrambled eggs, bacon and hash browns. Nice and fluffy eggs and plenty of it too and some crispy bacon to go with it. The French toast was "drenched" in the syrup from the peaches and while I would have preferred fresh ones (the ones on the French Toast were canned) it was still a nice change from the regular stuff.

Tom ordered the the Ultimate Omelette, three egg omelette with bacon, sausage, fire roasted peppers and onions, mushrooms, diced tomatoes, topped with cheddar cheese, served with hash browns and toast. As you can see from the photos, this thing was HUGE and filled with loads of yummy things. Tom enjoyed it very much.

It was fun dining outside the Disney bubble. As much as I love Disney food, sometimes a little reality check is a lot of fun too! :goodvibes

Next up - Breakfast at Denny's

I hate to admit I like Denny's. Pancake puppies are pretty yummy. I think the last ones I tried were strawberry ones...with a cream cheese dipping sauce. YUM!

I like the hidden Mickey that your breakfast dishes made!!:cool1:

That was ons sper sized breakfast!:worship:

My tummy is rumbling at the sight of that Denny's breakfast - it looks absolutely delicious! The french toast and peaches would make a breakfast in itself. And those round doughnuts looked yummy.:lovestruc

We never have a car at WDW so it's difficult for us to eat off-site other than days out at Universal or Seaworld.:guilty:

Mmm them pancake puffs had me drooling soo much!! :lmao: I want some!

Then I move on and see the french toast which looks just as tempting! I'm loving the offsite food and it makes me want to explore outside Disney on a future trip :confused3

You know, when we first visited California in 1992, Denny's was the first restaurant we went to apart from McD. :rotfl2:
And we only tried because I thought it looked "trustworthy". Ever since we have liked the food, nothing extra special, but it hits the spot and brings back memories!
Nothing like a trip down memory lane! ;)

And I was actually really impressed with the pancake puppies AND the french toast! :thumbsup2

:woohoo: you noticed the Hidden Mickey! We love to do that! :rotfl2:

It was quite a breakfast and Tom's omelet was HUGE!!!!!!! :goodvibes

I LOVE having the car while in the US. We just love to drive offsite and do some "window shopping". And it is very convenient if you do not want to have all your meals in one of the parks or resort hotels - no travelling on buses either! ;)
The other thing I like about the car is, that we usually get a car that would not make much sense here in Austria, a convertable. Fun, fun, fun! ;)

Oh, and btw, the french toast and the pancake puppies were REAL yummy! :thumbsup2

I could eat some right now too!

We have always explored offsite as well. I love to go shopping and it is so much easier to just drive to one of the malls. :thumbsup2

Day 7, August 19

Disney Treat

Now this one is going to be short and sweet.

After spending the morning at the parks we drove back to Old Key West to pick up our gift bag for Rosie (englishrose47) and I just felt a craving for something sweet. ;)

Remember this?

IMG_0874.jpg

Since we only had a couple of days at WDW left and I didn't want to transport any chocolate to the port, I "had to" open and try it.

IMG_0888-1.jpg

And this is what the actual pieces of chocolate looked like. They were filled with a chocolate cream with a light mint taste. While they were nice, they were very sweet. :goodvibes

Next up - Wolfgang Puck's Express

Hmmmm....chocolate minty goodness!

The reason we don't have a car in WDW is that I am the driver in the family and it's a treat for me not to have to drive for three weeks or so! Plus, I'm scared of driving on the other side of the road!

But we might have to find a way to visit these other places....

Yum, I love chocolate mints. But they do tend to be very sweet...so a little goes a long way for me.

Morning Karin :goodvibes

Right, I have just had Oatmeal for breakfast and now I want "Pancake Puffs" :rotfl:

I do understand about not having to drive for a while! :thumbsup2 I enjoy NOT having to drive too and am VERY happy, Tom LOVES driving in the US, so my treat - I don't have to drive, his treat - he gets to drive! :rotfl2:

And I completely forgot that the British drive on the "wrong" side of the road. But you are right - I was mighty scared when I had to drive an "automatic" car for the first time! :scared1:

BTW, there are lots of "regular" chain restaurants at Crossroads and you can just walk past all the hotels at DTD and get to Crossroads. :goodvibes

Yum, I love chocolate mints. But they do tend to be very sweet...so a little goes a long way for me.

I love anything mint too! I actually could live off "After eight". :lmao: It was just that the milk chocolate, with the soft milk chocolate filling was a bit much and very sweet - so the one chocolate was enough. I had to cut the others in half to fully enjoy them! ;)

Morning Karin :goodvibes

Right, I have just had Oatmeal for breakfast and now I want "Pancake Puffs" :rotfl:

Guess Pancake Puffs beat oatmeal ;), on the other hand, maybe it's something you could try during your next visit! :goodvibes

Day 7, August 19

Wolfgang Puck's Express

Before we headed out to lunch we went to meet with Rosie (englishrose47), another DISfriend we were looking forward to meet.

We all went to Wolfgang Puck's Express for lunch.

Tom ordered

IMG_0894.jpg

the Pennette Chicken Alfredo with peas, bacon and parmesan. Going to WPE on a very regular basis, we knew what to expect and this did not disapoint. The pasta was cooked al dente, mixed in with creamy and well seasoned Alfredo Sauce and crispy pieces of bacon. Let me tell you this is quite a large portion, so order it when you are hungry! :thumbsup2

I had another one of my favourites .....

NO, NO PIZZA this time. :rotfl2:

IMG_0893.jpg

I had the Crispy Chicken Tenders & French Fries. Now these are real breast meat, breaded and fried to a perfect crisp. The chicken is still very tender and juicy, just the way I love it.
It comes with a few salad leaves, which makes a nice change and French Fries. I always ask for some ranch dressing for dipping and it just makes it perfect!
I was in Chicken Tenders heaven! :cloud9:

We were all heartbroken because they were out of Creme Brulee, but since we were on the DDP we ordered something else instead.

Tom got a

IMG_0896.jpg

Brownie, which we later gave to Rosie to give to one of her grandkids.

I tried

IMG_0897-1.jpg

the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake. To me this is more like a Creme Brulee cheesecake with a burnt sugar top. It was very creamy and not overly sweet, and I really enjoyed it. And I am NOT a huge cheesecake lover! ;)

And here is a photo of Rosie and me.

I'll have to remember that WPE do serve food other then pizzas on a future visit! Your food looks yummy and I have to agree with the cheesecake...it is very good :thumbsup2

Those chicken strips look great, I may have to try them on a return trip. The pasta also looked good.Bob would love that.

I told Bob today that we were going to Denny's after my mammogram retake on Tuesday. They certainly do have a good breakfast. Maybe I can find a KK store on that end of town also. That would be a really great breakfast!

The cheesecake looks very much like the creme brule. I might have to give that a try next month.

Everything at WPE looks wonderful as always :goodvibes

We loved the Cheesecake there and I can't wait to get back in there :cool1:
