Called MS today in hopes of getting a studio from Dec 8-Dec 12. I pretty much had my mind made up that there would be no availablity at OKW. Was I shocked when the MS rep said she did have a studio available. DH is more shocked then I am since he told me I could go ahead and book a stay. He figured there was no chance of getting any room during this time. Now that I have this ressie can you all tell me what treats I am in for this time of year. We have never been to WDW during the Christmas season. Is OKW decorated during this time as well? Oh please fill us in on...........

This will be our first time during the holidays, so cant help you there! LOL

But I called last week and was surprised to find a BCV studio for 12/16-24th available. I waitlisted for VWL and that came thru a couple of days later.

I'd be interested to hear all about the Christmas Season too!

LIFERBABE what are your dates for dec? it looks like we will overlap a few days, we will be there VWL dec. 23-26, BCV 26-30 & SSR dec. 30-jan 3.

::yes:: :wave2:

LIferbabe - you are getting there one day after I leave. Sorry I will miss you. I'd love to meet those little darlings of yours.

You are in for a real treat at Christmas. The parks and resorts are just spectacular.

I missed MVMCP last year (was having my appendix out at Sand Lake Hospital that night!) so I can't tell you about it.

I love to resort hop anyway, but it is so special during the holidays. The Grand Floridian has this enormous tree and a lifesize gingerbread house. BWI always has some big huge decoration too. I think it was a chocolate version of the boardwalk one year. Again I missed some of this last year (actually I missed a lot of this last year.)

All of the resorts are decorated but the deluxe hotels really go all out - with the exception of the Contemporary - don't know why they seem to skimp there.

The candlelight processional at Epcot is beautiful too. You can book a dinner reservation and get first seating or you can just stand in line for seats. I've had pretty good luck just standing in line but I go earlier in the month when it is not so busy.

Early in the month the parks are so empty - it is just great - no lines and they are practically begging you go come into attractions. I know that it does get busy during Christmas week though.

Another one of my favorite things is the shopping. You know how the malls put out so much more stuff before Christmas - well Disney does also. Epcot is great - you can see all of the traditions and decorations, etc from the different countries. Downtown Disney is just popping with merchandise. I love to shop and look at all of the great Mickey stuff even when I am not purchasing.

You are going to love it!

Arminnie can you tell me more about the seating at the candlelgiht processional. I am confused as to what is it or how it works. Also do you know if OKW is decorated much.

thanks

You are in for a real treat! Be careful - this time of year is highly addictive! My first early December trip was in 1998. Haven't missed a year since!

Here is some "mandatory" reading for you:

Holiday info from the DIS

Holiday Happenings

Be sure to allow some time - there's lots of info on those two links and they include reviews and pictures!

Have fun!

Recently there was a thread describing the lovliness of OKW's holiday decorations. There are lots of balconies decorated with lights and such.

I also agree about this time of the year being addictive. We've gone to WDW in December of '02, '03 and we'll be there in '04. In '01 we went in the middle of November, and noticed some decorations going up, that prompted us to buy a video of Christmas in WDW and we were hooked. Some people ask how we can take vacations before Christmas, with all of the preparations that "have" to be done. We just smile and tell about the wonderful feel and spirit you get by preparing for the holiday by seeing the Candlelight Processional in particular. We bought the CD and it's the one we listen to most often.

We've only managed weekends in the past, this year it'll be 5 nights, it's our second time with our DVC and we'll have a Grand Gathering.

There are two lines for being seated at the Candlelight Processional - the first one is for people who have purchased the dinner package. The second one is for stand-by. Think of it as getting a fast pass if you buy the dinner package.

If you buy the package you are given a "ticket" (can't remember exactly what it was) that allows you to get in the first line. Those people are seated first. At some point they allow the stand-by line to enter and take whatever seats are left over if any.

You will be allowed to enter much earlier to sit down and will have a better choice of seats with the package.

I have not seen the OKW decorations as I didn't buy until this year.

Other than the main balconies at the resorts, the individual balconies are decorated by the guests staying in that room. This is done at all the WDW resorts--those without a balcony decorate the front window and door. It is a lot of fun to see how the guests personalize their room/villa. One of the BEST places to see decorations put up by guests in at FW campground. Some of the guests with motor homes, campsites etc really go all out. We always try to visit FW during the holiday season just to see some of the decorations.
This is a truly magical time to be in WDW.

Wisbucky - the decorations at OKW, the last time we were there for Christmas, were very subtle in color - kinda pastel. Poinsettias on the huge tree in the lobby were blue, pink, etc. Garlands also were the same type - more tropical in color. Really perfect for the theming of the resort. Like another posted said, you really need to visit the Deluxe hotels. Their decorations are fabulous.

Thanks everyone this puts me in the holiday mood already. Just can not wait to get there and see all the decorations. DH is a christmas decorations fanatic. I can see it already Dh will be begging me every hour to go to another resort instead of the parks.

Thanks arminnie for the advise we will for sure be making dinner reservations.
