Support Group - 10 lbs or less

Congrats MommyMcqueen! :woohoo: All that hard work is paying off!

Side note: For injuries like neck strain, ice is the better choice for the first 24 hours. Not as pleasant as heat, but it stops inflammation for faster healing. Heat might make it feel better temporarily for a few minutes, but in the early stages can do more harm than good. After the first day or so, if it's still bugging ya, then it's time to bust out the heating pad. I'm a massage therapist, so I hear about sore necks pretty frequently :)

I think I'm down another pound this week, but with my @$!%@ scale I don't know for sure. For a more reliable test I tried on my shorts from last summer. I had taken them on a vacation in April, only to find they no longer fit when I tried to put them on.:sad1: I had been in denial about gaining weight til that moment. I can definitely see improvement! They're still pretty snug, but 2-3 more weeks should do it!

good job everyone!

I leave for my cruise in a week so i am really trying to be good and work out hard!

Ah, cruises! I've been on 2, totally loved it. Someone cleans my room for me, I don't have to make my own food, ice cream runs at 3 a.m. . . .sigh. I have a hard time readjusting to reality when I get home.

I just got back from the 5K and it was really good and really fun! I was super nervous but everything went fine, checked in and got my chip and stuff. We had about 20 minutes so I went to the bathroom and we took a few pictures. I warmed up and stretched a bit, and got in line about 5 minutes before the start, and just waited.

The run itself was good - no real hills and mostly through a neighborhood then down the main street and back to the fair grounds where it started and ended. I did find myself running quite a bit faster, made the first mile at 9:30, then mile 2 was 19:55, and I finished the 5K at 31:38 (chip time). So I was really happy with that, about a minute faster that I've run it here at home on my runs! I was 201 out of 492 run/walkers. All in all it was a great experience and I'd definitely do it again! DH and the kids were a the finish line cheering me on and I got a great burst of energy there at the end and finished feeling great!

ETA - I added some pictures from the race into my PTR if anyone is interested! (page 12)

Thank Kolohe! Sometimes I'm not sure when to ice and when to use heat - so that helps to know that! I did ice it yesterday and it seems to be helping - took some ibuprofen too and that seems to be helping with the pain. Was stiff this morning but feeling pretty good now.

congrats! adrenaline is a great thing isn't it? You did really really well, that's a great time!

Thanks Heatherlynn! Yes, adrenaline and the sight of little kids and elderly runners passing me definitely motivated me to get my butt moving faster!! I actually didn't mind being passed by the older folks - very happy for them that they are out doing it and in that great of shape! But the little kids...man, if an 8 year old can blow my be there's a problem!!! :rotfl: They did though, and I'm okay with it, I did MY best. 10 weeks ago I couldn't hardly run 60 seconds, so I'm very happy with my finish today.

Congrats on the upcoming cruise!!! I'm so jealous - DH and I dream of cruising again someday! :lovestruc Have FUN!!!

thanks, I need a vaca, I am so excited!

So I have decided to run the Jazz half in my hometown of NOLA at the end of october, and for the first time ever I am going to follow a training plan to a T and see how I do. I am HOPING the training will help me finish my toning up and droping those last few pounds! (esp since I know I will gain weight on the cruise!)

Ugh...my eating this weekend was horrible. Saturday night we went out to dinner...Texas Roadhouse...need I say more? I only had 1/2 my entree (but had bread and salad before that) and brought the other half home only to eat it for lunch on Sunday. Sunday afternoon I had a bridal shower - I had some munchies but not bad, then they had a huge dinner spread and tons of desserts, I had a brownie. Then they brought out the cake...I should have said "no, thanks" but I couldn't resist cake . I actually lay in bed last night feeling sick to my stomach from all that food...it was a horrible feeling.

I almost started to tear up this morning before stepping on the scale. I did NOT want to but I need to be accountable for my indulgence so I made myself do it. Up 2.5 pounds. So I need to kick it into gear this week and get back to where I was last Friday. I can't wait to get out and take my run tonight. My neck is feeling much better today also, was still quite sore yesterday but today feels great, so I think I can do my DVD again.

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

mommymcqueen
I feel your pain. I ws horrible this weekend too. Had the wedding Saturday and I did indulge some, had a couple of drinks and stayed up way too late. On Sunday I felt horrible all day; run down, headache etc(hungover??? I only had 2 drinks!). When I feel like that, all I do is eat. I don't know why I think it will make me feel better because it never does:confused3

anyway, today's a new day so it's back to the program. hoping my gain isn't going to be awful on Wednesday

Good job on your 5k Mommy McQueen! You would blow right past me, I think I'm going fast when I'm at 11:00/mile. I may be slow, but I get there! I'm nervous about a half marathon I'm doing this weekend. I've trained and it's not my first one, but it's at higher altitude than I'm used to. And I always get nervous before a race. :)

Add me to the list of over-indulgers this weekend. It was my birthday on Sunday. On Saturday I had pizza with my boyfriend, then he surprised me with cake and ice cream. I wasn't too worried, since I did 9 miles that morning. Then on Sunday with my family I had lots more cake (there were 5 different kinds. Of course had to have some of each) and seconds on BBQ. Self control, you may have guessed, is not my strong point. That 3 lbs it took 3 weeks to lose? 2.5 came back in 2 FREAKIN' DAYS! My evil scale was oddly consistant this morning. You know, 'cuz it's evil.

Lesson learned. Moderation is good. Binging on cake, pizza, and BBQ will have consequences.

Well, in my first week, I lost 2.2 pounds :cool1:. I'm pretty happy with myself and with the fact that I exercised every day last week. I've done my exercise for today, but I also had Pizza Hut buffet, so that wasn't too great.

Thursday this week also isn't going to help because I have to go out of town to see my doctor, and my friend is going with me, so I'm sure we'll be eating something I shouldn't be for lunch. I guess I'll just have to do my best the rest of the time and keep up with my exercise.

I see a lot of people run. I'm sure that is great for the legs, but does it help trim the tummy / mid section? I have never been much of a runner and have been wondering if it's something I should get into. I can walk for miles, but have never tried running.

It is so hard to get into an excercise routine with a new baby. I am still walking every day at lunch, but the night crunches have not been happening. I have been eating healthy as well. 41 days until we leave for Disney and I cannot fit into half my clothes. Sigh

Go Disneymom! Off to a great start!

Disneychick: Running will help a little, mostly by helping get the fat off your tummy. But to really firm the area, gotta give the ab muscles a workout of their own 2 or 3 times a week.

Making a little progress trying to get off those pounds I regained last weekend. The scale this morning said I was down 1 lb. If that's true, than at least it's coming off faster this go-round.

Way to go kolohe_lady! I guess your scale wasn't being evil yesterday! I believe you can't totally deny yourself, but indulging should definitely be in moderation. It's hard!

I got back on track last night - did 100 crunches and 25 push ups. Apparently my arms need work, I felt so weak not being able to do more than that. But it's progress. Now off for another lunch time walk to tone those legs.

Great job this week everyone! My week is going okay - didn't run last night due to downpours all day long, so hopig to get a good run in later tonight.

Kolohe - 9 miles! Wow - someday maybe I'll be able to do that! Good luck on your upcoming Half this weekend! Sure you'll do great! My scale was nice to me this week too - I had a really good day on Monday and ran 4 miles that night. Tuesday when I got up I weighed again and was down the 2.5 that I was up the day before - so back to where I started last week at least.

Disneymom1980 - great job on your first week! Keep it up!

Dischick4778 - running will definitely help you reduce in other areas not just you legs - really any cardio will. There was actually a thread about this very topic a few weeks ago that explained it really well - here is the link:

i have not forgotten this group...i'm not doing well though!

made it through DD graduation weekend (last) with leftovers all over the place...our basement flooded (never in 18 years!) due to power outage over the weekend too.

next week I leave for Vegas.......don't forget me! i'll be back!

Happy Friday everyone!!

I weighed in today and I'm up a pound. Not sure how, I had a good week and was on track with my calories, I guess it could be water. I was only able to run twice (Mon and Wed) due to constant rain here all week and today, tonight, and tomorrow. :sad2: I'm hoping I can squeeze in a run this afternoon, they are calling for a break in the rain this afternoon before the next rain moves in tonight. Otherwise I HAVE to get out there Saturday morning - still a chance of rain but I'm hoping for the best. Yesterday I did 2 levels of the 30 Day Shred - did level 2 and then did level 1 right after - it was a good workout and I'm feeling sore today in my arms and abs especially.

I guess I was due for a bad weigh-in, I've had 3-4 weeks of good ones! Still disappointed though.

Not too worried about the weekend, we don't have much planned. Just a birthday party for a friends kid, but I don't plan to eat anything there and will be skipping the cake...it's just not worth it. So I should be able to keep to my calories okay and hoping I can get a decent run in tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

morning all! tomorrow morning I leave for DISNEY and get on the wonder on SUNDAY! I can't wait. I was down a pound this morning which couldn't have come soon enough! Hoping I don't gain too much on this cruise!

Have a great time!!! I sure wish we were ready to leave for our trip, but we've still got 6 months to go :(

I kind of fell off the wagon yesterday while out of town with a friend, and I'm trying to claw my way back up, but today hasn't gone great either. I'm tired, and I just don't feel like exercising, even though I know that I need to.

I'm baaack!! Not very happy about being back from vacation though... I could have used a longer one!

Everything went as well as I could have hoped for- no car issues (drove about 2,000 miles!) and the weather was beautiful. The wedding we went to was really nice and even though there was a thunderstorm that afternoon they were still able to get married on the beach. I gotta say though I've decided getting married on the beach is more romantic in theory than execution. Between the humidity and the sand gnats chewing at my ankles I was happy to have it last only 25 minutes!

We missed the oil spill in Destin- it still hasn't hit although it's definitely getting closer. The beaches were gorgeous. On Friday we did see a HUGE shark very close to us (~10ft) and then read later that sharks and other wildlife are being pushed closer to the beaches because of the oil. The place was so nice it's so sad to think it could all be ruined like that.

We ate out a LOT and I gained some but surprisingly not as much as I thought I would. We ate at the Donut Hole (omg their donuts are to die for and I don't even like donuts!), the Back Porch, Floyd's Shrimp House (in Ft. Walton Beach) and Sarah K's Gourmet. Sooo much good food.

Yesterday I decided to go back on South Beach- I haven't done phase 1 in a long time so I was hoping it'd give me a kick start. Ate well yesterday but forgot the importance of getting more carbs in and felt woozy this morning. Had a cup of milk and I'm feeling much better. I don't think I'll be running super long distances coming up so I figured now was the time to do it. Once I'm off phase 1 I'll get back to trying higher distances (like 5 miles).

I actually didn't run at all over vacation or do any working out really :-( I'll be back in gear today though! Heading to the gym after work. DBF's bday is on Wednesday so I'll have a little cheat then (making seafood bisque w/ french bread) and my birthday is two weeks from then so I'll be off phase 1 by then. I'm hoping to lose about 5lbs before July 4th weekend.

Congrats MMQ on your 5K!! That's an AWESOME time! Much better than I've done! :thumbsup2
