Support Group - 10 lbs or less

My problem is that I don't know WHAT I should be eating!!! I posted a thread about how much to eat maybe a week or two ago after you said you came in at 2000 calories... I was like WHAT? I could never eat 2000 calories and lose weight- on the contrary I'd gain. I just don't know how much I should be eating. I probably hover between 1200 and 1450 on most days during the week. :confused3 When I posted the question people said anything from 1200 to 1600 I think.

This week I've dropped to below what I was on Friday so the weekend "weight" is gone and I'm down another 0.6lbs but that's nothing really abnormal. Still in my same "range."

I didn't work out Monday but did 50 min of cardio and abs/stretching on Tuesday, then did body pump yesterday and going for a run today. I've got free lunch at work the next two days so let's see how good I can do. It's always a sandwich, chips and dessert (today will be a sandwich, tomorrow will be chick fil a). I'm hoping to at least not eat the chips!

Great work this week everyone! :thumbsup2

when you start running over 15 or so miles a week and doing strength training and cross training your body for sure needs more calories, esp for fuel for longer runs. If I were you I wouldn't go below 1600 if you are working out hard. You will end up doing more harm than good! Just make sure you are making good choices with your calories....lots of fruit, whole grains, veggies, not a lot of processed/refined stuff and you will be good/fuller longer

oh dear, we repeated our pattern of no posting on the weekend :guilty:

hope you had a fabulous mother's day -- i know i did! my DH and DDs spoiled me all day..my oldest cooked all 3 meals as her gift and did a fantastic job! my youngest gave me a "spa day" -- bubble bath, mani, pedi and back massage. just had to brag up...:rolleyes1

i'm sure i ate 3 days worth of calories yesterday though....and bailed on my 4 miles that i now must do this morning...next Sunday is event day!!

I started doing Body for Life last week and lost 4 lbs in the first week. I actually felt good eating good nutritious foods instead of the junk I was used to eating.

I ate poorly this w/e but I also ran 6 miles on Saturday...so that cancels some of ti out, right? I have really been working on toning my arms for summer, they are sore today! I may swing by the library and re-rent Jillian's 30 day shred.

I had thought about posting over the weekend but I had nothing to report - my weekend was a complete bust! Not that I ate that bad, but I was sick and misreable!!!

Friday night we grabbed a bite to eat out (fast food) but I was at 1550 calories for the day so that was okay. I knew my cold was coming but it didn't hit me until Saturday, and I also had tummy problems with it, so I didn't eat a real lot on Saturday, about a sleeve of saltines over the cource of the day  Ugh. Sunday I was starting to feel better, ate a pancake for breakfast and we got subs (and fries) for lunch, which I ate half for lunch, half for dinner. By last night I was feeling up to taking a walk so I did, it went okay but I was definitely a bit more tired, but I managed to get my running intervals in. My last run was Thursday and I didn't want to have more than 3 days inbetween, last time I skipped 3 days it was really hard for me to get back at it, felt like I was starting over. Last night we watched a movie and I had popcorn and I was at 1550 calories for the day. So not a terrible weekend but not great either.

I weighed this morning and up 1 pound, which I expected and think is water, I drank a TON last night after my walk and then ate salty popcorn. :headache: I'm not too worried about it, but still still not great to see. It is looking like I'll need to take another walk tonight, they are calling for bad weather the next few days. I'm excited but very nervous - I only have 1 more walk with running intervals - then it is straight 25 min runs - which increase to 28 and 30 min over the next 2 weeks! I can't believe I've made it this far and also can't believe that I'll be running 25 minutes in just a couple of days!

I actually spent some time this weekend looking for upcoming 5K's in my area - I found a couple, but I don't know if I should sign up for one?? I think once I know that I can make the 30 minutes I'd probably sign up for one, but I'm really nervous about it - I think the idea of doing it alone is worrying me. I know it shouldn't, I've done all my runs alone, but I guess since I've never done one I just don't know what to expect, what I'm supposed to do, etc. Any advice? Do a lot of people run these alone?

Sounds like you did good with effort again MMQ, even if you didn't see the scale go down at all. As for running 5K's, I'm with you. I was really nervous my first race (which was an 8K) and I was running with people. The first 5K I ran with DBF but he runs much faster than I do, so I was alone the whole run. I think as long as there's someone cheering me on I'd be fine running alone. If you have any questions you can just ask. Usually the small 5K's aren't intimidating (ours was only 150 people). You just clip on your bib, then usually have a D tag on your shoe to count time. I say go for it but have a friend come cheer you on :)

Yesterday I ran 5 miles for the first time since the 8K in March and I did really well! I was just a few seconds/min slower than my 8K pace. My normal pace is 11 min/mile and I ran it in 10:43/mile! My right foot hurts a little but other than that I'm ok.

Gained this weekend again but not a ton. I'm still just hovering at my same weight since I started this thing. Ugh. But I'm toning up and getting better running distances so that's a positive! :goodvibes

do people run 5k's alone? if that is what you are asking then, yes! I always run alone. My husband is a speed demon and leaves me in the dust! most epopel run alone in my experience. sign up! I am running one this saturday!

Thanks you guys - I know it probably sounded like a strange question - of course people run alone! :rotfl: I guess it's not so much the running alone, more of knowing what I'm supposed to do, where to go, where to get in line, what time to get there, what time to get in the area to start, how/where to warm up, etc....all of the "unknowns" when you've never done it before. I'm sure once I do it one time I'll be more comfortable!

I did find one on July 10 that I'm going to sign up for. I actually emailed a friend of mine about doing it together, she ran a 5k last weekend, she is not an avid runner but does this one particular race every year. So, if she wants to we'll do it together, otherwise I'll do it on my own! I'm still trying to find one in early June once I finish the C25K, but I'm not finding much in my area, there is one about 45 minutes away I could do. I'm sure my DH would come out to cheer me on and probably even bring the kids to wait for me at the finish line...so that would be nice having them there.

This week hasn't been my best - good run Monday night but yeserday all I wanted to do was eat. All.Day.Long. That's all I thought about, could not get my brain off food. It was rainy and cold and windy and I just wanted to eat. Today hasn't been quite as bad, and am planning to run my first 25 min run later this afternoon. I'll wait until Friday to weigh myself...not expecting a great week though. Hope everyone is having a good week!!

ETA - made it through the 25 min run tonight!! I should probaby call it a 25 min jog though... I was pretty slow! But I made it! My first mile was 10:35 and then my tracker showed that I went 2.23 miles in the 25 min, second mile was much slower and I consciously made myself slow down considerably after I hit the 1 mile mark. I thought that was pretty good for a first time...now I can work to improve that distance for the next week, have all 25 min jogs coming up. Definitely a bit sore tonight - icing the shins right now!

MMQ~ congrats on deciding to do the 5K! I love races but have only done two- and my next is coming up two weeks from tomorrow! :scared1:

My training has actually been going very well. I'm "in the zone" and pretty diligent about it. I ran 3 miles with a friend yesterday and plan on doing a mile or two after my strength class tonight, and running tomorrow morning too. Monday will be my 6 mile day... the farthest I've EVER run! :)

I'm down to the lowest number I've seen in a while (but it's only 0.6lbs below it). I'm hoping that's a sign things are starting to kick into gear again? I've been at the same weight for what seems like forever. I am upping my distances though and am hoping to get to 15-18 mi/week. This week will be around 12 or 13 I think.

Goodluck this weekend everyone!

Thanks Karen - I'm really looking forward to it! Great job on your training and congrats on the weight loss! Every little bit counts!! Good luck on the 6 miles - that is huge!!

My week was just okay - I weighed in today and was happy to see I didn't gain. I'm the same as last Friday, which I'm actually happy to see. I was not as diligent on my tracking this week as I usually am, and we went out to dinner last night. So I was relieved to see that I didn't gain (actually moved the scale and weighted myself 3 times to be sure it was right!)

Hoping to get out for W7D1 jog tonight - it is just so horribly windy here again. It always is and I know this, but today it is especially windy, my neighbors flag is straight out and blowing! So it'll be an interesting one, hoping it dies down a bit by this afternoon. I have been kind of slacking these last 2 weeks and only doing my C25K runs 3x/week and not really incorporating any other exercise into my week...so I need to start doing some form of exercise off my off days - get a new Wii workout or an exercise DVD...something. I've heard/read good things about Biggest Loser Wii or Jillians 30 Day Shred DVD? Anyone recommend anything else??? Thanks!

whew...i made it ;) Cleveland 1/2 marathon today, time 3:02 which is alrighty by me. i haven't plugged my Garmin in for pace yet b/c the mileage was off at the first mile and it took to the finish and still wasn't quite caught up. i've never had this happen before but after mile 1 it was pretty consistent so i used to pace my miles, i was getting anywhere from 13:33 to 14:17....

not tomorrow, but Tuesday I'm starting the 30 day program of Jillians, Making the Cut. a co-worker and I have commited to the workouts together and i'm counting on you guys to keep me accountable for my diet! yes, that's right...I NEED YOU!:thumbsup2

Great job on the half marathon OhMom! :thumbsup2 Very inspiring!!

I had a pretty good weekend, finished up week 7 of C25K. Had great jogs on Friday and Sunday, anxious to start week 8 tomorrow. I also started Jillians 30 Day Shred DVD on Saturday and I am SORE!! I was pretty sore going into yesterdays jog - but it went really well once I got going and I didn't really notice how sore my legs were. Yesterday was my best run ever...made the 25 minutes with no problem (2.27 miles), I walked a few minutes then slowly jogged the rest of the way home - another 17 minutes.

Weighed in this morning - no loss, but I did eat a lot on Saturday, and was over calories a little yesterday too. I'm really anxious to finish up the C25K program next week - need to figure out what I'll do next - I was thinking about training for a 10K? :scared1: I really like having a program to follow (found some 10K training programs online) - I like having that goal out there, I find it very motivating. There is a 10K in my area that I'd have about 8 weeks to train for. Could be doable...

morning to all -- Day 1 of Jillian's Making the Cut program...stomach is already growling! got the workout done, a partner sure helps me alot!

MMQ - a 10k sounds very do-able for you! i say register!

I get there about 30 min early, get my packet, pin on my bib, and go to the bathroom. then about 7 mintues early I do some warm up jogging and light stretching. then they should tell you where to go/get in position to start. dont warm up too much but you also don't want want to go into it cold. a 5k is such a short race there is no time to "warm up" in the first mile, then the race is almost half over haha! GL!

Thanks for the info Heather! Love your blog, by the way! Loved reading about your first races and half at Disney! My warmup now has just been 4-5 min of walking and a few stretches before starting to run.

I signed up for my first 5K on June 5th! :goodvibes I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! Running it alone but DH is coming and will bring the kids, they'll wait for me at the finish line. :)

Heading out this afternoon for W8 of C25K - a 28 minute run, I'm sure I'll run a little extra again after that ;). Did Jillian's Shred DVD again yesterday but was still sore from the first workout on Saturday so I did some "modified" (okay...easy) versions of the exercises...but I still did it. Feel good today - soreness is way down and feeling great, can't wait to run tonight.
Made the mistake of weighing myself this morning - up 1.5 pounds...WHAT??? Ugh...

Hey all! I would love to join in. I've struggled with these last "10" pounds for a while. Then it became 20 with pregnancy.
I'm down to the last 10ish again, but I struggle with diet, especially sweets!! So I hope this accountability will help!
TIA!!:goodvibes

good luck, I am sure you will do great! I have my husband stand a ways up from the finish line and have him yell at me to run faster and finish strong!

Even though I'm a bit late, can I join? I need better accountability!

Baby #3 is 13 months and I lost all the weight by running, but I still have about 7-8 pounds from Baby #2! I've been running about 20 miles a week and biking about 40 minutes a week. I love my runs and want to keep the 20 miles, possibly adding more miles, but I need something new to kick start the weight loss again. Any suggestions? I could use some good strength training ideas as I'm sure that would help.

Thanks!
Carrie

It's been a pretty good week! I didn't gain over the weekend although I did eat a little bad. Monday and Tuesday we had training at work, which means they bring in food for us :headache: To keep myself awake I pretty much ate the whole lunch they gave us both days. But yesterday I ran an entire 10K with my friend!!! We went the full 6.22 miles, and did it in 1:11. So now I know for sure I can definitely hit my 1:10 goal on the 29th. I'm feeling alright today but a little sore. We talked through the entire thing and I wasn't even that out of breath at the end so I know I can do this! I felt great other than my hips and knees bothering me a little (typical for me- much better than it's been in the past since I got my new shoes). They're fine today though. :)

I'm up 0.4lbs today but I'm assuming that's because I have been really bad on drinking water the last two days in training.

Congrats OhMom on the half marathon!! Awesome job! :thumbsup2

:welcome: newbies amandaluvsgoofy & steves1bear!!

I have worked out well so far this week, cardio video monday, run tuesday, elliptical and arms today, run tomorrow. I am really amping it up for this cruise!
