SuperShuttle

We recently booked a trip to DL. We pre-paid for a Super Shuttle and included the 18% gratuity. We are coming from Long Beach Airport. We've had good service in the past with Super Shuttle from SNA, so hopefully it will be the same this time! We rented their "private" van since there will be 9 of us.

I didn't know the drivers preferred to be tipped in advance! I thought it was just the opposite. We always prepay but only once did I prepay the tip. The driver seemed miffed about it and seemed to expect us to tip anyway when we got to the hotel. I thought probably he never expected to see the tip we had prepaid and the next year (last year) I tipped when we arrived. I never noticed any difference in the service and we have always been happy with SS. Shuttle Driver's post sure opened my eyes, though, and I am sure the current situation with gas prices is going to make everything much worse, sigh.

I also never realized that coupons came directly out of the driver's pocket. Is this true even when the fare is prepaid? I used one last year that I found on a Google search and booked with it online.

If your coming from LAX, you should look into the Disneyland express run by greyline, it's pretty much the same price, but it's a much more comfortable ride in a motorcoach which has it's exterior decorated with a Disney them.

Also you can sit back and relax, and not feel like your obligated to have a conversation with the driver, since in the those vans it's so close quarters.

just my take on it

WDW here I come!!!!

That was really rotten of your boss, I hope that you moved on as soon as possible from his employ, for he is crooked, and I do not make reference to his gait!
That was just so wrong, if you could prove those statements, I wish you would have reported him, to the labor board, and also maybe to the DA, as well, if he was doing that to you, for how long? and to how many other employees? what else does he do, that is immoral, or illegal? makes one wonder!

Yeah, it was horrible. It was a summer job years ago when I was in college. It was a local family style restaurant. He has since retired and I think he had heart problems and has passed away by now. I couldn't ever prove that he stole tips, but it happened to other waitresses too where customers would say they left a tip on the cc & he would deny it. You see he had it all figured out. Instead of modern day restaurants where you often pay your waiter/ess, back then they had to go up to cashier (him) to pay on their way out. He would never let us in the drawer to see the receipts. And yet we knew we had provided good service, customers were happy, etc...no real reason to get stiffed; especially when they told us it was on the cc!

We used SuperShuttle vans in June - LAX to San Pedro and San Pedro to the Embassy Suites, Garden City. They were private vans since there was 12 of us. I prepaid tip on the first one and did not on the second - no difference in service. When we arrived in LAX they immediately called for the van as they did in San Pedro and we were on our way in about 5 minutes which was the time it took to load the van. They were wonderful!!!

We had a terrible ride with SS in May - LAX to DL. We prebooked our ride (prepaid through a package) and still had to wait 45-50 mins after our pre-scheduled p/u time. The van was SCARY!!! It was dirty, not all seatbelts worked, the springs were WAY GONE from the seats as we were all bouncing all over the place - I bonked my head on a window!

We decided that we would not be using this service again!

Having said that, we don't have anything else to compare it with, so I'm not entirely sure if other services are better...... Who knows?

Rickdeni,

What was the cost for LAX to San Pedro?

We need to book transportation from San Pedro to LAX on the Sunday we get back from the cruise.

Anyone have any other ideas to get us back to LAX from San Pedro? and the estimated costs.

I'm doubting some of shuttledriver's info. Yes they are privately owned; the kind driver told me that on our pleasant talk on the drive from ONT.

But:
You will be picked up late, or put out of route order as opposed to those who do tip the 18% and are treated with better service than those who WAIT to tip at the end.
NEVER NEVER EVER use a coupon of any kind. These discounts come straight out of the DRIVERS pocket and drivers hate coupons. (If you have used one in the past you know what I mean)

As I stated in my post on page 1, the driver was actually *early* on the trip when I hadn't pre-tipped. On each shuttle trip I've had I have used a coupon, and they have been perfectly courteous.

Now they're a bit crazy with the phone calls and texting while driving (wonder if they are still doing that with the new law), and the guy from ONT drove a bit too fast for my taste, but those are the only negatives I saw.

As for the carryon bag being thrown away, that WAS theft, not LIKE theft.
