My DS 6 1/2 is DYING to see this, but I am a little nervous. Can anyone tell me why it is PG-13?

Thanks very much! :)

All the reviews that I have heard says that it's not as violent as the recent superhero flicks, ie Spiderman, and that it's less action, more relationship/character driven. Maybe there are some intense scenes...don't really know.
For the record, most comic books are aimed at older teens & young adults than children these days. If I had to guess, the movie probably has some adult sensiblities and possibly a few curse words.

I can't come up with anything off the top of my head as to why it was rated PG-13, other than because of a couple slightly intense scenes, at least for younger children. I thought the rating was a bit odd myself--I'd let my kids see it if they wanted to, but they've expressed no interest in it.

I just remembered I had this site bookmarked---maybe it'll help you decide if he can handle it or not. :) Keep in mind, it's a bit spoiler-ish since it does break it all down bit by bit.

Thank you, my shorty would like to see Superman but when I saw the rating we saw Nacho Libre instead lol.

I think I have a leeeeeetle crush on Jack Black. :thumbsup2

He's no Tim though lol.

p.s. I know that little is spelled wrong, it just sounded funny that way. Thank you and we now return to your regular Dis readings. :thumbsup2

I haven't seen the movie, but DW and I vetoed it for our little guy (6) because we read some reviews that mentioned violence and cruelty. I really think its probably not that bad, but we'd rather err on the side of caution. We'll let him see it in DVD, where we can better edit the movie to suit our needs.

The Yahoo review page said it is PG-13 for "intense action violence" if that helps any.

I'm going to see it in about two hours. I should be back around ten. I'll be happy to pm you a review when I get back. :)

That site makes me laugh. It's beyond ridiculous some of the things they feel the need to point out.

But my guess as to the PG-13 rating is the violence. But, I would say it's about the same as Spiderman or X-Men.

IMO, a 6 year old won't even get the innuendos.

DH saw it opening night. He said it was fine for our boys to see. They are 7.

Oh yeah, it's definitely over the top, IMHO. :rotfl: But I guess what wouldn't bother me would really bother other people & vice versa, so the site does help when I have to figure out what'll be ok or not. :)

There was a little boy in our showing that was about that age. He looked cute in his Superman costume. But the two adults in 1978 Superman t-shirts were just a little weird.

It didn't get the PG-13 rating for sexual content. Probably for violence. Typical movie/comic book violence. Not more than Spider-man, X-Men or Batman Begins.

I think that it got it's rating because of the violence, some kissing scene.

It didn't have any swearing in it - it didn't have any blood, guts and gore. The only person that died, you really didn't see him die either. It's more comic book violence in that there is fighting, people beaten up (a little). But like I said, no blood spurtings, no decapitations. There is some shoot-outs, so that might up the violence ante a bit.

I took my kids (8 and 5) and they were fine with it. I think it would be OK for younger kids to watch it, however it would be a bit boring for the under 8 crowd because parts of it was long and slow. The only scene where my kids had issues were the kissy kissy parts (LOL) but that's because they're boys!

I would say it is less scary than spiderman or the batman movies.
It is rated that way for violence though.
We took my son who is 8 next month. Afterward he said "I dont know why that was rated PG 13, it wasnt scary".

It was a milder PG 13, I have seen some, that I thought should have been R.

Off topic but this made me ROTFL! I get so sick and tired of being told how to spell on a DISNEY BB. Now if I mispelled DIZNEY then I could see the point. I'm here to have fun, talk and make friends. I'm no longer in English class!

Now back to Superman we are going to see it in an hour if we can get in. They said it was sold out but sometimes they are wrong.

Thanks for the reviews everyone! If we do go see it, it will be tomorrow afternoon. Maybe by then there will be a little more information about it.

Thanks again!

I saw this with my 12 year old at a special showing Tuesday night! It is rated PG13 for a reason. Its hard to explain why without giving SPOILERS!

I (46) was a bit taken by a specific violent scene. But there is also a story line that brought up VERY SPECIFIC questions on the car ride home! :rolleyes1

If you really really want to know...PM me!

It was a GREAT movie.....but really not for the youngins!!!

I hate when they market these movies to young kids...yet young kids shouldnt really be seeing them

I agree completely. We (DH, DS16, DS13 and I) saw it this evening. Certainly for my older boys, it was no big deal, but I do think that the violent scene went on just a bit too long for my taste. And I agree that some questions of the birds and the bees variety would be asked by some younger kids. There's nothing overtly sexual in the film, but certainly there's an underlying thread.

I noted this on another thread yesterday. I agree with another posting the younger kids see all the merchandise and the t-shirts for the movie. But it is rated PG-13. All those toys at Toys R Us are not pulling in the 13 yr old boys but the 5-8 yr olds :confused3 We have a soon to be 6 yr old. He also wants to see Pirates even more so than Superman.

We saw it last night, and thought it was really good. It's rated PG-13 probably because of the fight between Superman and Luthor's gang. It's really brutal.

DD6 would freak out over it, so she's not going to see it until she's a lot older. Of course, she got really upset at the first one because she found out that Kal-El was being sent away from his parents forever.
