Super Shuttle or Uber for single female

Okay, an Uber-related question. Sorry to hijack the thread even more :)

In a taxi, I always ride in the back... Hubby says front or back is fine, but they ride in the back on TV, so I thought that was the "expected." What about for Uber/Lyft? Don't want to seem rude or presumptuous with my choice of where to sit. (Really, I prefer sitting in the back for many reasons [safety, less easy to interact which soothes my socially anxious heart, and a huge fear of car accidents], but didn't want to appear rude!)

It a taxi or Uber I always sit in the back, passenger side...that way I can see the driver, but am far enough away from them as a precaution(not that I feel unsafe, but it's just what I've been taught to do)

I would likely do the shuttle if I was alone. My daughter uses Uber/Lyft often and gets her share of creepy drivers who ask a lot of personal questions. That's down in San Diego, though. Maybe it isn't as bad in orange county.

I mean, they literally give you the license plate number to verify.

And when I used lyft in August they sent a picture of the car and driver too.

Uber drivers have all been better than cab drivers ime

It's not the driving, but the "getting in the car with a stranger" thing. Different areas have different levels of vetting for rideshares, but cabs often have a bit more. Arrange for a Yellow Cab pickup and you've got that little bit extra paper trail. If you're nervous you're nervous. If I were nervous like that (and I sort of am even though a dear friend is an Uber and Lyft driver in Los Angeles) I'd consider a cab to be one step up on the "peace for molly" scale. :)

I always ride in the back behind the passenger seat. If I am with my husband he will sometimes sit up front due to car sickness issues.

I actually think that there is more of a 'paper trail' with Uber than with a traditional cab. Your ride is tracked the whole time separately from the passenger's app and the driver's app. I always send a screen shot of the Uber driver's information to my husband, just so he has it, or a friend if that is who I am meeting, also if you are linked to another person's Uber account as a 'family profile' then there is a feature that will send them automatic real-time tracking information. I suggest you go to the Uber or Lyft sites to check out all of the different features to see if you are comfortable with the service. If you aren't comfortable then Supershuttle will work fine, I personally am most comfortable with Uber/Lyft these days.

So I'm about to make my first ever solo trip to DL!
Good for you, Kirsten! Hope you have a great time. I'm almost always at DL first thing on Sunday mornings. I'm typically there with a small group of other people that I've met there -- one nice couple and a charming grandmother. By all means, if you'll be there on a Sunday, let me know and you can join us. When we're there, we're always to the right of the main circle at rope drop, almost invariably right at the front. I wear a Cubs cap. You're welcome to join us just for rope drop and then go your own way if you like and/or to pick our brains later about the best strategies, etc. I've been to DL 100+ times at this point and have learned a few things ;-).

If I'm by myself I just jump in the back. I tend to travel with smaller luggage so I just throw it in the backseat then get in myself.

In the back.

I'm a solo female traveler and have been taking Supershuttle from LAX to Disney every year for the last few years. I prefer taking Supershuttle, even if it is more expensive than UBER as I prefer not to be alone in a car.

Im an international visitor from Europe and I feel safer on public transport than alone in a private car.

Super shuttle isn't public transport. If a psycho can drive a car, he could also drive for super shuttle, or public transportation for that matter. Plus, as a 6ft tall male even I get scared sometimes on public transportation (and for good reason) So any sense of security there is a false sense. I guess if it makes YOU feel more comfortable than just go with what makes you feel better. If you do take Uber, when you see the drivers picture, car and license plate, screen shot that and send it to your friends. Thats proabaly safer than any public transportation.

I'm a little late on a response to this. I go solo every year and fly into Long Beach (John Wayne this January though). I take Lyft every single time. I like that the app tracks where I am and I have had nothing but excellent drivers to and from the airport. Sure a couple odd ones but still polite and never made me feel unsafe. Save the $ and just do Lyft. Or Uber if that's your jam.

Do you remember how much it cost each way to/from Long Beach? Where do they pick up at Long Beach? .... I'm thinking I may finally try it this January instead of using the taxi.

I'll be there for the half marathon next month so Sunday at rope drop I think I'll be recovering in my hotel! If I see you later I'll say hi though!

It was less than $30 each way. I want to say $25. They picked me up right outside the terminal and dropped me off at the terminal curb. I strongly recommend it. Oh it was slightly more to be picked up since LGB airport charges a small fee from Lyft to pick up.
