OK guys and girls,
The first pantry challenge was a great success!
:cheer2:
Here is the pantry challenge 2.0 --
Starting on Wed. April 22 - Eat out of your pantry for two weeks. Post your recipes, ask for creative ideas -- all the dissers are here to help. End date - May 5th (or 4 days before I leave for DISNEY!!!)

Rules:$15 extra per week for extra milk ect.

Diapers this time are nt included in that amount -- same goes for formula.

So, are you game?

I'm in. I'm not doing any serious grocery shopping until we leave on tuesday for WDW so I've already made my list of what's in the pantry and inside freezer. I just need to figure out what's in the deep freezer that might help complete some meals.

So far I know I can do:

tacos ~ need a tomato

turkey ~ we have a whole cooked turkey sitting in the fridge at the moment and I have no idea what to do with it, but I can maybe make sandwiches from it

some random bag of mystery meat in the freezer ~ I have to take a closer look at what this is..might not even be meat! LOL

corn on the cob that needs to be eaten this week

a few other meals I'm sure.

I may try this. I don't keep a stocked pantry but I may try anyway. :)

So this starts Wednesday?

So, the rules are - we only eat what's in the pantry and can spend $15 a week for things like milk and fresh fruit?

I've never tried it, but I bet I could do it. Guess this is where buying meat when it's on sale and just freezing it all comes in handy. :-)

For the turkey - try shredding some and letting it simmer with a packet of taco seasoning and a small jar of salsa. Then serve it on tortillas with a side of spanish rice (dry rice browned in butter, diced tomatoes, thinly sliced onions and green peppers, water and simmer for 30 minutes) and beans (if you don't keep refried, try black beans with some some onions and green chilis in them).

Or, chop the turkey finely and add to spaghetti sauce; serve over penne.

I have a recipe that calls for chicken, and then you use 1 c. spaghetti sauce, 1/2 c. bbq sauce, and add finely chopped onions and peppers. Serve over penne or other small pasta. YUM.

Think I'll try this too. I've got several gallons of milk frozen in the freezer :cool1: so I'll just have to carefully plan my meals and snacks. That's my kids weakness is the snacks, so I'll have to get creative. :thumbsup2

I can do it. I stocked up about 10 days ago. I have a full freezer and full pantry again.

I'm in!
I have been eating out of my pantry/freezer for the past week.

Okay, I'll try. I think I can do this. After all, it's only the two of us!
We're also moving so it'll definitely benefit me to eat what we've got-- less to move!!

I'll give it a try. I need to get a handle on what in my freezer and pantry anyway!

I think we'll give it a try! I'm sure we can do it, this will just make me a tad more accountable!

I'm in. I have $3 left in my grocery budget that has to last me until May 1st. I will have to work on a menu plan tonight but I am pretty postive I can make it work. We may be having pancakes or cereal one night for dinner though. :rotfl2:

Count me in. I should only need to buy milk and fresh veggies. I am trying to do WW so I am buying a lot more fresh veggies and fruits than in the past.

Ok I'm in. My freezer is so full I can't even fit ice cream in there:scared1:. My 2 are little, so they love to have breakfast for dinner:rotfl:. $15 should be enough, a little milk, some fruit/veggies, and eggs - just at the end of freshness of the ones in the fridge. Side note, does anyone know how long hard boiled eggs keep? Easter leftovers.
Thanks and good luck to everyone:goodvibes

So last time I fell off the bandwagon and didn't complete the challenge.:headache:

I am game to give it another try. I have 1 extra gallon of milk in the fridge & 2 loaves of bread in the freezer. Also yesterday I got ground turkey (5 lbs for $6.60 total) and boneless chicken breast (1.67/lb) at Sam's Club. I was stocking up because we decided not to renew our Sam's membership right now.

We have lots of meat in the freezer and lots of rice (50lb bag ). Plenty of pasta, canned veggies, granola bars...sooo I should be able to do this...why am I feeling nervous....:rolleyes1

I have 25 days until our WDW trip so this will be good for DH and I.

I might need a kick in the "pantry" to stay motivated.

So do we post what we're making and what we bought, etc?

-lol panty challenge hahah
we could do that to -- see who runs out of underwear first and is willing to go the longest without.

:lmao:

I'm NOT taking the PANTY challenge but count me in for the PANTRY challenge!

I leave for a business trip to NYC two weeks from today so I should be able to eat from the pantry until I leave - then the "boys" (DH and DS 17) are on their own for a few days!

DH already requested Buffalo Chicken pizza for this weekend so I'll need to spend some of my $15 on mozzarella and blue cheese. I have all the other ingredients on hand!

Thanks for issuing the challenge. I hope I make it - I have a LOT of food that needs used up around here!

Cool I will try. Dh will be working a lot (going out to eat a few nights) and we will be out of town a few also so this will be baby steps for our first time.:goodvibes

2 weeks right?
