SUPER-SAVE ME Pantry challenge 2.0

Okay - I'm in!! So, I have some leftovers I need help with. Chicken, spinach, and chick peas. Any amazing recipes?

I am in! I am $1.01 over in the No Buy April, so I need to stop the spending. I will need to buy some fresh fruits and veggies in a few days, but I will try to make it a few days. I also need a dessert for Teacher Appreciation on Friday.

Not sure if you have the other stuff but here's an idea:

cooked chicken-shredded,
cooked pasta-any kind,
chick peas,
green and red bell peppers, tomatoes or any other veggies on hand (1 cup if using 1lb of pasta)
Mix together with italian salad dressing. Voila, pasta salad.

you can also puree' the chickpeas with a tbs of olive oil and herbs and make hummus- great dip for tortillas or raw veggies

So last time I fell off the bandwagon and didn't complete the challenge.:headache:

I am game to give it another try. I have 1 extra gallon of milk in the fridge & 2 loaves of bread in the freezer. Also yesterday I got ground turkey (5 lbs for $6.60 total) and boneless chicken breast (1.67/lb) at Sam's Club. I was stocking up because we decided not to renew our Sam's membership right now.

We have lots of meat in the freezer and lots of rice (50lb bag ). Plenty of pasta, canned veggies, granola bars...sooo I should be able to do this...why am I feeling nervous....:rolleyes1

I have 25 days until our WDW trip so this will be good for DH and I.

I might need a kick in the "pantry" to stay motivated.

I feel nervous too.:rotfl2: I've got so much meat and milk and butter in my freezer I'm running out of room. Plus I just made a run to the bread store on Monday so I'm making room for the bread I picked up.

I never knew you could freeze milk............interesting.:)

My fridge is stuffed full and we are leaving for Disney (well, a conference first and then from there we go to Disney) on April 30th. So I'll go from now until then using the pantry.

Today for supper I am going to make onion soup (because my son opened a second carton of vegetable stock yesterday and now I have two opened ones in the fridge, so the soup should use up at least one, plus we have a lot of onions) and pizza (I'll make the dough in the bread machine), which will use up a few other leftover veggies in the fridge. I think I'll make a chocolate cake too for dessert. I will use my $15 to buy more salad.

I want to do it but I cant start until Monday. I have items that I have to purchase for an out of town soccer tournament that will take way more than the $15 allowable amount. I want to take the challenge so I will just have to start late.

I'm glad to see there is another challenge. I started the last one but became a bit lax towards the end. I'll give it another try. We leave for Disney in 16 days and it would be great to get the fridge cleaned out. I went shopping a couple of days ago for fruits and veggies so I should be good for awhile.

Can you really freeze milk and it taste OK when thawed out?:confused::confused:

Our Aldi and WalMart have it for $1.19 A GALLON!!!!!!!

I'm in, too! As I am blessed to be able to triple coupons numerous times monthly, I have a pantry, garage, and extra fridge/freezer full.

Not only do I not know about freezing milk, but we have almost 2 deer (from hubby) in our freezer. I know he had some made into hamburger, which I definitely do for spaghetti and lasagne, but WHAT IN THE WORLD DO I DO WITH THE REST OF IT? Anyone else use it? I don't like it if it tastes gamey... KWIM????

I'm in I have been doing this for almost a week already. I am going to make my menu tonight. I know I have plenty to last 2 more weeks.

But baseball season has begun which can make this a challenge. BUT I did stock up on snack packs & I make my own crustables to take to the games.

BUT $15/week will NOT cover milk in my house...13YO drinks half a gallon a day himself! And the other 3 are good milk drinkers, too. So we go thru a gallon every day or two! So maybe $15 PLUS milk...

Great timing. I had just been saying we have been eating out too much for convenience (we are both teachers--I am on plan time right now and had 5 min to fill:goodvibes--and it seems the first and last months of school we eat out too much!) And I generally keep a fairly well stocked pantry & freezer (try to take advantage of sales as much as possible!)

Game on!

DO you just use sliced turkey and gravy, or do you have a recipe for shredded turkey that you use. I used to love hot chicken sandwiches but can't find a good recipe. We have a turkey in our freezer that we can get out to cook next weekend for company and I'd love to find a recipe before then for the left-overs...

Game on!

My mom had that problem when my brothers and I were between 10 and 16 years old. So, she limited us to 1 gallon per kid per week, period. If we drank it all by the middle of the week, that was our problem. Give it a try, see how it goes!

Anyway, I'm in. My freezer is full to bursting, and I just looked at this weeks sales flyers and nothing good was in them anyway.

just sliced turkey and gravy unfortunately. I'd love to find some other way that the kids would eat it but the kids range from one who will eat anything to one who eats nothing so I try to keep everything pretty mild (and boring! :( ).

ok - my first night dinner is.... PASTA VODKA and salad

lunches -- turkey sandwich -- myplan is to use all the expring foods first
cream for the pasta sauce and coldcuts for lunch

then onward.

Some good egg recipes would be helpful

I"m in as well. But it will be a bit easier on me, as I'm the only one home this week. :rotfl2: Everyone else is awaiting my arrival next week in WDW. Should have called in sick to work for a week.

Today's lunch menu will be grilled salmon and rice.
Dinner shall be leftovers from yesterday, bowtie pasta and leftover sauce.

I thoroughly enjoy cooking.

Also, for others who may not know, here is a website to help out with ideas for what's left in the pantry.
http://www.supercook.com/

Seems to work nicely and comes up with a variety of options. I'm thinking when I get down to the can of spam, can of okra, and pumpkin pie filling that I will need something like that to make it work. :rotfl2:

Okay... I already spent money! :rotfl:

Tonight's dinner is:
Hamburgers (patties from freezer, buns leftover from Sloppy Joes this weekend)
Pasta Salad (not a lot, it's leftover from Sloppy Joes too)
Busch's Baked Beans (from pantry)
French Fries (purchased today at Krogers for $1.69)

Breakfast, DH had an apple cinnamon muffin and Raisin Bran. I had Fruit Loops.
Lunch, I had leftovers and DH took assorted things from my stockpiles. No OOP $.

I had to purchase shells for tomorrow's dinner so my total spent today was $2.76.
That leaves me $12.24 for the rest of the week.
