Super Goofs on Parade: Foward...MARCH!

Cecilia - I'm glad you ran your 6 miles with no problems. Be careful not to push yourself too much before you are ready!

It's been nice out the last few days so we have been taking advantage of a wonderful coastal trail near our house. We mostly just walk it with our daughter but it is a great chance to talk about trip planning. I love the time change!

We are going out of town for the next couple of days but our trip will include an amazing 15K on a beautiful river. Most of it is not paved so we really had to watch for potholes and mud last year. I'm a little worried as rain is back on the forecast. We'll see!

I definitely walk for water stops. If I'm going to take a gel pack, I usually start walking when I see the water stop so I have time to down it before I get my water to wash it down.

My numbers are up to date on the spreadsheet.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Morning all!

Steve, best of luck and have a great time at your race!!

Cecilia, thank you for all your help. I think I am over my panic attack...for now. Are you doing CMM this year? I know you have done it in the past and had talked about it earlier. There is a thread with all the group that will be there in case you wanted to see what was happening.

I am still laughing about the last time I tried to run through a water stop...:lmao: There was water all over me and I don't think I got any in my mouth...LOL.

I hope everyone is well. The spreadsheet is looking good. I think we will top last month's totals this time around. Everyone is working so hard and with race season upon us, those numbers should rise dramatically. Don't forget to double your miles for a race. Not the time, just the miles.

As for me, I did nothing after my staff meeting yesterday. I should have but I didn't. I got the kids an agility ball (6-sided rubber ball) and we spent some time playing with that but I did not pay attention to how much. My bad. Today is 5 easy miles for me gearing up for 16 this weekend. I am going to test my run for a distance and then walk some theory out and see how mile 12 goes. If I could put this off until maybe mile 18, that would be great and give me less panic for sure. I will let you all know how it goes on Monday. We have no FH practice this weekend :woohoo: :woohoo: and yeah nothing planned either. Maybe spring cleaning the basement...:sad2: but surely nothing fun!!

Have a great weekend everyone. I will check in on Sunday before the LR of the week to see how everyone is doing!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Spring!!! :flower1: :butterfly :daisy: :flower2: :rose: :flower:

I did a tempo run today--starting all over again based on my latest race result. So pace was supposed to be 8:08, but on the TM closest I could do was 8:06! Thanks god it was only 2 miles at that pace.

Cecilia I must admit, I was a little jealous when you mentioned that your ITB was fine now. It took so long for me to get over it! But I'm glad you're feeling good. Running is enough of a challenge without having to deal with nagging injuries.

Anyway, happy me gets to see my daughter home from school for the next week. (Unhappy me knows that now we will have not only dog hair all over but DD hair, too! Small price to pay.)

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I will update my totals for the month on the spreadsheet soon.

lots of catching up with the goofs to do.

Nicole: PD for you and yours...hope all gets better FAST FAST FAST for you!

Lisa I hate the traveling for meetings that really only apply to one or two people...same with conference calls, memorandums, and restrictive policies...why don't they just handle it with the people who are the ones screwing up???:confused3

Maura Hope you have a great time with your daughter!

Balance of the Goofs have an awesome wonderful goofy day/weekend!

Mike's place Got in 8.4 miles in an hour on the elliptical yesterday, followed by 3000 yards in the pool...it kind of...whats the word...oh yeah, SUCKED :lmao:

Rest day today, with the weekend consisting of a 2:30:00 hour ride and 0:45:00 minute run on Saturday, followed by a 1:40:00 run and 1:00:00 bike on Sunday :scared1:

Total for the week would be 13:10:00....

Every Goof looks busy! Good work on the training everyone! My streak remains alive.....it looked hairy there for a while, but I hung in there! I have excerised every day (but 1/25 for travel) since Jan1st! Streaks are not fun to deal with every day though....even my kids comment on my exercise status. They are the ones to help me get it done one day....it was their bedtime, and ds#2 recalled that I didn't work out that day. I had to promise to get on the TM after they went to bed to keep the steak alive one more day! Bless his heart......so I got on the TM for 3 miles after they went to bed. My 'rest' days is 60 min Pilates class! It's been working so far, but there are times I am really tired!

I hope the race season looks bright for everyone. I had to give up on CMM this year, since time is hard to take off of work then (Nancy probably won't be back yet).

Hey Team!
Merry Vernal Equinox!:flower3:

Been slacking on checking in and updating the sheet. Will get it done this weekend and stop in more often.

Cecilia - glad you're moving well !

Lisa - I hate most meetings followed closely by conference calls (like the one I sat on for 45 min yesterday).

Steve - good luck and have a great time!

Big HELLOs to everyone!!

We've got busy weekend on tap. Tonight is standard - menu for next week then grocery shopping. Sat - 16 mile run/walk; Sun - 18 mile ride (on my new bike  ) although 18 miles isn't that long but will be enough after Saturday's distance. Love to ride so can't wait for temps to stay high.

April is booked up for us.
3-5th - NY trip
11th - inaugural Illinois 1/2
19th - local 10K
25th - CMM

May looking pretty similar. Yes, we're insane...and in good company. ;)

Have a great weekend!

Hi Goofs!

Lisa- YES I am going to be a CMM. I am doing the half but I would be glad to meet you around mile 23 and run a couple of the mean miles with you. Also, I think we are staying at the same hotel.

Maura- You have no idea how panicked I was at the thought of an injury! I started taking these supplements when I was sick and trying to train for the Goofy. Anyway, Dh and a couple of my running partners think that that is what helped me heal so quickly. But I was doing EVERYTHING in the book - rolling on a roller, ice, rest, compression, stretching etc so who knows which combination did the trick. And lets see what happens when I go for 8 miles tomorrow.

TRICK TO DRINKING AT WATERSTOPS: Pinch the top of the cup so that it is mostly closed and drink through the spout. That way, if you get jostled, the water doesn't spill. Also, I am not at my most coordinated at that point so it helps keep me from spilling it all over myself. Get some paper cups and try this on a run or two before the race to master it.
Also, toward the end of a race, I cannot stomach gatorade anymore. Sometimes I don't even swallow the water, I simply take a sip or two just to get my mouth wet.

That's a great tip on the water cups. Someone showed that to me at the CDC last year.

I always have to mix the water and Gatorade during an event. My stomach does not care to have it dumped straight in.

Quick update - was planning on 20-mile trail run today. For various reasons, it became a road run (in part because next race is on roads, want the practice), but my my legs just didn't feel right when I got up, so I cut it back to 8.5 or so. Will RICE the rest of the day, go for 11 or 16 tomorrow, if everything is feeling better.

(I'm betting that my speedwork earlier this week pulled or strained something - my legs have not felt right the past couple of days. Each day a little better, but I think I really overshot on those quater-mile repeats.)

Hi all-
I'm BACK! I had a blast and best of all- no falls!. The only injury I suffered was a little tiny blister to my ring finger.

I have no idea of the hours I exercised but it was packed with riding. I will fill you in on details later but my kids are clammering for my attention

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

Please join us on the 'Ohana team thread for the Monday Mixer. The Mixer starts here.

There are many reasons why we race. Sometimes it's a way to challenge ourselves. Sometimes it's a strategy to keep ourselves motivated. Sometimes it's a reason to reunite with old friends and meet new ones. And sometimes, just sometimes, it's about the goodies. :teeth:

This week's question is about those goodies:

What is your favorite medal/t-shirt/race-bag goody, and WHY?

So come on over to 'Ohana. Share with us your favorite pictures and stories. Brag about the bling. If you haven't done a medal-awarding event, tell us about a shirt. If you love a particular expo, we want to know why. And if you're new to races, visit anyway. You can get some ideas for future races and "ooh" and "ahhh" over the pretty, shiny things.

On a more serious note: Two of our 'Ohana cousins, Maria and Richard, could use some extra hugs, well wishes, and PD this week. If you've got the time, please let them know you're thinking of them.

Howdy gang,

On Saturday, I ran the Redwood Wild River Run 15K in Crescent City, CA. This was a really strange experience for me as it was the first time my heart just wasn't into it. I also didn't have the pre-race jitters which has never happened to me. I made myself run anyway as I knew I would greatly regret it if I stayed home.

I got off to a pretty strong start - maybe too strong as I was drained after 20 minutes. I took a 1 minute walk break and continued on. That seemed to help as I felt pretty good for another 15 minutes when I took my next walk break.

As I was starting back up again, a really nice older guy from my local running club was passing by and struck up a conversation with me.

I was caught off guard as he was giving me a lot of praise about how much I have progressed over the last year. I guess I didn't realize it until later but it really seemed to help me as I started watching my pace a lot after that.

I was very happy to see I finished just under an 8:55/mile which is my new fastest pace in a 5K or longer! It was a much more hilly and muddy course than the flat course I set my previous PR pace in which makes it even sweeter.

I have a small 5K fundraiser next weekend but after that, I don't have any other races until the end of May. April has only a Masters race and I'll be at WDW in May so I will miss two other local races.

Keep up the great work everyone!

-steve

Steve Congrats on your pace...it sounds like you did very well to me! I'd love to maintain a pace like that for nearly any distance...I'm much more a Clydesdale than Quarterhorse...

Liz, how is your bike? Are you floating on cloud nine?

Lisa? Lisa? Morning sleepy head....up an at em! Still cleaning the basement or what?

Anyway, on my my to the pool for a 45 minute swim...really enjoyed the nice weather here this weekend, got in around 60 miles or so on the bike.

Stay Goofy everyone!

Morning Mike. I was, um, working....:surfweb: We are so far behind it is just not even funny.

Steve, super congrats!!

Cecilia, we moved to the Hampton Inn where everyone else is staying for the weekend. I think I will be okay during the race. Patrick is my guiding light and chief motivator. It is both of our first marathon and we have a plan...well Patrick does anyway...

Joanne, yay for having fun and not getting hurt this year!! I am glad that you enjoyed your trip and horsey camp!

Everyone else, I hope you are doing well and just not posting....where is everyone....

Spreadsheet: We have some nonposters already. With month 2 closing, if members have not posted for February and March, I am going to officially put them on the inactive list and request replacements for them. We are a team and we have to all work together to make this happen. It does not matter if you do 1 mile and someone else does 10, the 1 matters, everyone matters. You just have to BE part of the TEAM. Okay off soapbox.

As for me, my 16 miles yesterday was an official stonker. I quit after 13. My legs hurt, my feet hurt, my knees hurt, it was cold and I was miserable. I called DH to come for a pickup. I walked more in the last 2 miles than I care to talk about. Suffice it to say that my average was 11:47 for the 13 which is not very impressive. I am, however, glad that I maintained 11:47 for the 13 even with walking most of the last 2 miles. It proves my theory out that I can walk a couple miles and be okay. No numb feeling this time as there were too many other feelings. :sad2: Just a generally sucky run. Sorry folks, it is what it is. Today, I plan to finish out the 16 with a 3ish mile run. It is freezing here today (literally in the 20s) with a gusty north wind so again, it will not be fast but I will finish out the mileage. Am I discouraged, a little, I have to admit. I know once you complete one marathon it is probably easier than not knowing what to expect both from the race and yourself but I am not feeling good about this right now. I know in the end I will be okay but the worry is still there.

Okay, back to work. The backlog does not clear itself!!!

Steve Congrats on the race. I think the most satisfying experiences are the ones you may not be expecting, and yet you come through with the result. WTG on you new PR.

MikeKeep up the great work--sounds like your training is going well. You are Mister Consistency.

Lisa Sorry the run stunk. I'm sure you'll be back in the groove soon.

As for me....busy weekend. DD is home for spring break, and the time seems to have just gone right by. I got in two long power walks this weekend with the dog. Yesterday was particularly nice, as I drove DD and DC (Dear Canine) out to a local park so she could do her 11-ish and I could try to wipe the dog out (energy-wise, not other-wise!). Apologies for not posting miles--I keep forgetting when I'm home. It would be so much easier to do from work. Why the Google Doc site is restricted is beyond me. I promise, I have lots to add!

Maura

Hey Goofs. Just checking in. Hope everyone is doing well! :grouphug:

Lisa, please don't delete me from the spreadsheet! I promise I'm gonna be back out there soon. I know I haven't been able to contribute for a month now. I'm very sorry Goofs! :sad2: Two more weeks and I'll be back in training for the Peachtree whether I'm ready or not. We'll be in Hilton Head for spring break and that should be an awesome place to get back rolling. Doc has given me the all clear, but I was told to take it slowly. Personally, I feel like a swollen twiddle dee or twiddle dum, though! :scared: I might just be a tad slower now... :rolleyes1

DH is running his first full this coming Sunday. I'm excited for him, but getting a little nervous about taking the girls downtown and trying to find him. I'm not very familiar with the train system. It will be an adventure! pirate:

I'm really jealous of those going to the CMM. It sounds like it is going to be alot of fun. I have wanted to do it for the last two years now. Maybe three will be a charm for me? :confused3

Have a good week everyone!

Shan, I am not deleting anyone who has a reason to be out. There are members who have joined the team and, for whatever reason, have never posted, either on the thread or on the spreadsheet. Every team has some members like that. It sounds like a great idea but then becomes too much hassle, etcetera. We all have lives and everyone understands.

But delete you, never!!! You have been through so much in the past year-ish! I hope this is the last of the surgeries you have to have. :wizard:

I don't want anyone to take my statement about the spreadsheet personally. If you have a reason that you are not posting (i.e. not able to access, vacation, injury, etcetera) please feel free to either post it in the thread or PM me personally. The rule was last time around that if you did not post for a month or so, you were made inactive and replaced on the team. I think that is fair to everyone involved. If you have a reason, let us know. Fair enough...no???

While there is no prize for the winner, we are all here to keep each other going and motivated, provide support for those in need, advice for anyone wanting and just general fun times. It is meant for fun but if you aren't posting, how can we have fun with you?????? :goodvibes

Good morning Goofs!

It actually rained here this morning and while I know this is not front page news anywhere else, we've had no rain in months and this is huge for us!! I really need the rain the clear all of the pollen out of the air so I can breathe. I've never had problems with allergies but in the last year I've had a couple of bad sinus infections and its not been pretty.

Plugging away on the bike infront of the TV every night at 1am. Long walk/jog tomorrow. Next 5K on the 4th. Waiting for Race for the Taste to open registration and get more info on the Tower of Terror 5K.

Hope everyone has a great Monday!!! No school here on Friday and its suppose to be near 90.

Thank you Lisa! :thumbsup2
I feel a little bad about not contributing, but I'll try to make it up later.
He was not able to fix everything this past time, so I have (hopefully) just one more surgery. It will be under local so it shouldn't be that big of a deal. He said early this summer, but I'm gonna ask him if we can wait until school goes back in. I feel like I really deprived my kids of a proper summer last year. I want to get water park tickets this summer to make it up to them and if I have stitches or whatever I won't be able to get into the water. I should be able to keep running, though. This has been such an ordeal, I wouldn't wish this on the worst enemy.
Thanks again for being so understanding!
And I know about the team, I came from a dead one! :lmao:
