Super Goofs on Parade: Foward...MARCH!

Steve Love the story...your own nemesis. Maybe you can concoct a fascinating backstory for him. WTG on the race. I have done one trail race, and have newfound respect for my two XC-running children.

Suzanne  Sorry to hear that you are stressed out. I understand you wokrk stress though. At my end of the world, they have all the conference rooms booked for April 21--and the clear plastic bags waiting to pack your belongings if they come and tell you that you've been "involuntarily separated". Hang in there!

Kim Hope the shins and IT feel better. I am also having a shin flareup and I can't figure out why.

Everyone else Thanks for the words on the boss thing. Even though my peers see the same behaviors in my boss, it doesn't matter. I just have to do a "the boss is always right" kinda thing--that is definitely not me!

So I have been a bad girl this weekend and need to get off my butt--and the computer--and go to the gym for a double workout. Swim and run, since I skipped those. But first grovery shopping!

Maura

Hey Goofs. DH ran his first full this morning. He is doing pretty well, although his left knee is hurting. He finished it in 4:32. I'm very proud of him! I took the girls downtown and used the train system. I was a nervous wreck, but we managed! :lmao: We got to see him at mile 11 and right before the finish. We also saw WISHer Scott both times! :woohoo: And we spotted a runner with an orange Disney Running hat on. It was so cold, really the wind was killing us! Glad we're home, happy and now warm. Hope everyone else had a nice weekend.

Steve:

Great race report...I gotta get me a nemesis...one of my running buddies has one.

I got in about 10 miles at the gym today, 7 in the first hour on the elliptical, then 3 or so on the track...I walked, slow jogged, did some stability exercises etc.

Tomorrow its back in the pool.

And shovel the walk, since it snowed last night...ugh.

Shan Congrats to your DH on a great accomplishment!

Mike Thanks ever so much for sending the snow our way--big fat flakes falling now (wait--is that snow, or senior management at Fortune 500 companies!)

Did an awful workoout today. About 900 in the pool and then was intending to do my tempo run. Bagged it after 1.5 miles when right shin screamed. (insert sigh here). Hope this rough patch passes soon. Plus, the pool/chlorine whatever and I are just not getting along. I am a congested, sneezy mess still!

Just saw the headline that our CEO was asked to step down by the White House. Yikes. Agree or disagree with performance, he was still a man of integrity. Work oughta be extra interesting tomorrow!

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

Wendy posted this on the Lean Meaner thread and her words resonated with me, so I thought I'd pass it along as it serves as the inspiration for this week's mixer. :flower3:

It feels like Spring in my head-- a time for cleaning out the junk, renewing my resolve, and enjoying all that is beautiful around me. It's a renewed hope thing -- Do you feel that way, too?

So, WISHers, springtime is in the air as well as on the calendar. And even if your neighborhood isn't enjoying springlike weather quite yet, it's fun to plan for that day that's just around the corner. So this week's set of related prompts are...

What outdoor activity (or activities) do you most look forward to in the spring, and why? What is an annual spring tradition for you? How do you enjoy that first, perfect spring day?

Feel free to talk about prepping the bike for the season's first ride or the first run in shorts. But we're also interested in hearing about other activities: gardening, kite-flying, spring cleaning, picnics, roller blading, hiking, and so on.

So tell us your stories. The 'Ohana Monday Mixer starts here.

Morning Goofs!

Well 18 miles at an 11:11 average pace done and over with. I did it all at once on Saturday due to the rain on Sunday. I felt really good the whole run. Gotta remember what I did before the run and try and duplicate it next weekend!

Shan, tell DH super congrats.

Steve, love the story. All I can think of is a Phineas and Ferb episode (who has kids???) where they sing the song, my neme neme, ooh my neme nemesis. You should add it to your playlist!!! My nemesis is myself I think.

Patrick, love your suggestions and yeah, you call but you never post. Go figure. Only 4 more weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone else, :goodvibes Make sure that you all remember to double your race miles on the spreadsheet. March is almost over!!!

DD14 starts pitchers and catchers for school softball tonight. Gym time will be precious in the next few weeks. I am going to try and get them there this afternoon before tryouts and hopefully DD will be okay after. It is a short run/XT/rest day for me with 9-12 tomorrow. DD has her physical in the middle of the afternoon making this a squeeze for me. I may switch it up and do the 9-12 today and some XT tomorrow. I took yesterday off, if you consider completely spring cleaning DS7 room to be off. Reconfigured the closet, tossed broken toys and donated the ones he does not play with anymore. It was tough but a job well done. He helped all day just like a trooper. DD14 cleaned her closet out and there are 2 bags of clothes for her friends to pick through. The rest get donated. The basement is the next weekend long chore. That one I am NOT looking forward to.

Have a great Monday everyone and April is just around the corner!! I may start the April thread tomorrow as Wednesday is my day off and I won't be on to get it done that day! Get you numbers on that spreadsheet!! I will leave the totals blank until Thursday morning and update them then.

2500 yards today in the pool, about 50 minutes.

Roughly the same time that the first swimmer out of the water at the Silverman Ironman did last year :scared1::scared1::scared1:

stay goofy everyone!

Mike

Ah Monday, a day to love. Got in a 45 min bike ride at the gym today and watched the headlines on the news. After a quick dash back home to retrieve a necessary clothing item (usually socks, but not today!) I am here at work. Should be an interesting day!

Hope the day starts well for all.

Hope all goes well at work Maura!

Great report Steve, very funny story and the other guy probably doesn't even know you are watching him!!

Maura, good luck at work.

Everyone with school kids, have they been on Spring break yet? Everyone here is on Spring break this week except my county. We are not on break until the 10th. Of course thats Easter week where everything is crazy at work and surrounding. Augh.

Meeting with the high school teachers tomorrow night. DD starts HS next year and they have to pick a "major" in HS here. Yes, not college but HS. They can change during the 4 years if its not working out but all of their elective classes revolve around the major that they pick. DD want to be an author so we are looking at journalism, creative writing, hopefully newspaper staff etc in the next few years, etc. I don't think I am ready for this!

Have a great Monday everyone!!

I got my pink skirt from running skirts yesterday (delivered to the wrong address and hand delivered to my by my cute neighbor - boyfriend, what boyfriend?). I'm going to put it on for my run tonight. I got it just to wear for the race for the cure in May!

Didn't quite make it to my usual Monday Madness today. DD#@ was up all night with a puking bug- lucky me! I am so tired and I have so much laundry to do!

Whoops I thought I posted yesterday!!!! :rolleyes1

Joanne, I hope DD is feeling better today. Sorry for the all nighter. :wizard: Have you got your miles/minutes posted to the spreadsheet? I am hoping to get the April thread up later today and would like to get all the numbers in for Thursday. I noticed you had nothing posted for Feb or March yet. Are you having a problem?

Suzanne, we are on spring break the week of 4/20 which is why everyone is going to Nashville with me for CMM. Otherwise, it would just be Mike and I. We went to WDW one year the equivalent of last week (OK spring break and went with my sister's family) and it was heck to say the very least.

Maura, :wizard::wizard:

Everyone else, :flower3:

I sat outside DD14's school yesterday waiting to take the girls to the gym and no one showed. Finally texted her and asked what was up and she said they were not going. Thanks for the heads up hon. I went to the gym because it was pouring buckets here and did the elliptical for 6 miles. Today is supposed to be 9 miles for me but I have to take DD for her sports physical so I am switching up my days. Short run today late and then the 9 miles tomorrow. Eight miles on Friday and then we are off to MA for a field hockey tourney all day Saturday. I think I may do a Sun/Mon split with 12 miles each day this week but I will have to wing it as, once again, there is rain in the forecast.

Starting the April thread later this morning, please feel free to post on either one!! Get the miles/minutes updated on the spreadsheet and I will be moving some people to inactive who have not posted at all. popcorn::

Hi Goofs. Got in a reasonable workout this am. Speedwork--mile repeats (okay, only two of them) at 7:40. Only thing about trying to run faster.....you don't have as many minutes to post for the great Goof team! Anyway, shins/ankles felt somewhat better, so that was a plus. And I took time to do a nice stretch---boy does that feel good after a run. I'm only running 2x/week now as I attempt my tri training, so I haven't been stretching as much. Need to start stretching after my bike rides, just cause it feels nice!

Mike Saw an article yesterday (don't remember where, but if I do I'll post a link) that says triathletes experience more heart attacks/deaths during a race than marathoners! It's the swimming piece that does them in. (Why am I trying to do this again?!)

Lisa As much as I don't like the bill, it is nice for my kids to have text plans so they can keep in touch. Although my son decided last Friday night to stay over a firend's and texted his sister, and not me or my DH! Panic time on Saturday morning! His logic--which was reasonably sound--was that she would have been awake to see the message when he sent it. Although he didn't factor in that she doesn't getup til later in the am. Oh well--he has new instructions now.

Suzanne Hope your meeting with the teachers goes well. High school turned out to be a better place for my son than middle school. (DD--she's good anywhere!), and I bet your daughter will do great.

Joanne Hope your DD feels better and you don't catch what she had.

Megan Hope your skirt worked well for your run.

Time for work!

Maura

Steve, I love the story about your arch-nemesis. I can't wait for the day when you're eating your post-race orange slices as you watch HIM cross the finish line!

Maura, I just wanted to let you know I've been thinking about you every time GM is mentioned on the radio and TV. :grouphug: I hope your work situation isn't too stressful right now. Glad to hear your legs weren't ouchy after your run.

AFM, 2.12 miles in 25 minutes while DS had baseball practice. Sadly we were not at the ball field that's more conducive to running, but I made due with the parking lot and sidewalks. Another 30 minutes of Wii Fit yoga when we got home. I'm loving one of those poses ("side stretch something something"?) for stretching out my IT band.

See y'all on the April thread!

It was on Yahoo! news. It's still only something like 15 out of 1,000,000, so it's not a huge risk, just somewhat riskier than a marathon.

I need to update my miles and minutes. My foot is still not 100%, but I am back up to 4 miles or so, though I am not yet risking my normal cruising pace. I might try a couple miles at my normal pace tomorrow, but I don't want to risk anything with the Illinois Marathon in less than 2 weeks.

Kudos to everyone - I'd post individual cheers, but I need to make dinner for the kids.

Last chance work out for me.

Today 45 minutes on the bike for 11 miles. 60 sit ups. Total time 50 minutes.

I wish I could get some "days in a row" going.

However, good way in my mind to end the month. Here comes April.!

Have a great rest of the week.:thumbsup2

Lynn

Mike ...that says triathletes experience more heart attacks/deaths

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Like I don't have enough to worry about.

its probably from anxiety during the swim...its like swimming in a blender filled with bubble bath...very disorienting the first few times.

Mike
