Super Goofs moving into May

I had no idea it had been three days since I was on...real WTO/LTO streak here!

Anyway, quick flyby for me:

Saturday 5/16/09 30.65 WINDY miles in 1:54, and walking a round of golf (carrying clubs) for another 4 miles.

Sunday 5/17 8 miles running, 80 minutes, 10 mile ride in 55 minutes (easy recovery ride)

Monday 5/18 40 WINDY miles in 2:16

Tuesday:5/19 Missed, but will make up Wed

Wed 5/20 (so far, I still have a ride and run) 45 minute swim, 1.1 miles

Keep it up Goofs!

Looks like I'm not the only one flying by during a busy day!

sk8tingmom Welcome! You have quite the active family--and all triathletes, no less. I am looking to do my first one in the near future. And Mike (laxdef69) is the real triathlete around here. Hope your training continues well.

I've been training, too. Same old, same old. I promise I will post this weekend. I have Friday and Monday off. Yippee!

Hope everyone else is well.

Maura

Hi all-

I am in that fog that happens to moms the last week of school. Busy busy busy. Now add in a surprise visit from my inlaws while I am trying to paint the dining room and office! Now look at my Chicago Marathon schedule- thats right its officially training time! ACK!

So on day 4 of my marathon training plan I am still on track! Usually, I have to play catch up at the beginning of marathon training so that makes me officially ahead - right?! ;)

This training schedule STARTS with a 30 mile week! :scared1: Shall we have fun and make bets on how soon I fall off?

Suzanne - DC can be pretty affordable because most of the attractions are free. Find a hotel outside the city but near the metro and buy metro passes for the week instead of trying to drive. New York though, I don't think that can be done on a budget.

Lisa - good luck on all those games!

Mike - Can I assume the knee is doing better nowadays since you seem to be getting all your workouts in??? I hope so.

Take care all!
Cecilia

MauraThanks for the triathlete props, but I'm more of a "try athlete" as I'm utterly mediocre at all three events that comprise a triathlon!

Cecelia The knee is holding steady at moderate pain. I can't miss any additional training, so I ice, stretch and complain a lot. I started taking some stuff called Baxyl, which purports to be a joint lubricant (something like chondroitin I suppose) and seems to have helped somewhat (whether its a placebo affect or not, I guess I don't care).

Got in the bike from today, and went light on the missed run from yesterday. It was supposed to be 55 minutes, but hey, you're not even supposed to try to make up workouts, so there!

Bike: 25 or so miles, about 1:25:00

Run: 3 miles, approx 30 minutes

I need a nap!

We just flew home today from WDW. We had a great time and I logged some pretty good miles while there. Despite walking around a lot, I know I ate way too much at the parks and on the cruise. I definitely felt it when I tried to do laps around deck on sea days.

I'm dreading the scale tomorrow. My first Disney cruise following a week at the parks, I gained 11 pounds! I gained 6 pounds on my 14-night Disney cruise so hopefully it's less now that my metabolism is better and I did get a lot more exercise in.

I never did get to run around the Boardwalk as it poured on us the last few days. I tried running around AKL the first week we were there but circling the parking lots got old quickly. The heat also made me cut it shorter than I would have liked.

I ran the Castaway Cay 5K. There were 12 of us and it was a lot of fun. The heat and humidity were extremely tough on me. It was a lot hotter than I had ever run in before.

I updated my miles and minutes and am calling it a night. I'll try to catch up by the weekend.

Take care!
Steve

:scared1::scared1:What, no one posted yesterday????? Whassup with that?????? :scared1::scared1:

Where are all the Goofs? :surfweb:

I was stuck in the hospital yesterday working filling in for someone who got fired the day before. There are only 2 of us trained to fill in for the leads when something happens (unfortunately it was being fired this time instead of vacay) and yesterday was my turn. Today is the other persons. I have all weekend, lucky me.

I did not get a workout in unless you count chair jump squats. DD14 had a double header in which she hit 2 HR and a triple, a single and a fly out. She made 2 fabulous plays, one from short and one from third. So needless to say, I was jumping up out of my chair to cheer a lot. Other than that, it was 92 degrees and just flat out hot and yucky here. Today is in the 80s so a little more reasonable. I plan 5 miles after work. Best laid plans you know. We have zero practices and zero games over the weekend so I have no idea what to do with myself....:upsidedow

Hey Goofs. About to go out for a run, but wanted to check in before our trip! We leave for WDW tomorrow morning. Today is the girls' last day of school and my oldest will be moving on to middle school. I cried like a baby when I dropped her off today. I'm going back up in a few hours for their picnic and to see them do their walk. (They walk the halls one last time to tell everyone goodbye.) I'm sure I'll be a basket case. My daughter is also very upset. All the kids are getting split up into two different schools next year. I also feel bad for my youngest who is really going to miss her sister. They won't be in school together again until high school when she is a freshmen and my oldest a senior. OK, enough bawling...

I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend! I'll try to check in while at WDW. DH and I plan a couple runs around the boardwalk while we're at BCV and then a run over at CBR since we'll be there for a couple nights, too.

Take care!

I also feel bad for my youngest who is really going to miss her sister. They won't be in school together again until high school when she is a freshmen and my oldest a senior.
Hey Shan, my kids are the same age difference, but because our schools go K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and then 9-12, they won't ever be in school together until high school. We did luck out and get them on the same school bus, though -- the Elementary and Intermediate schools share the same buses -- so that was really helpful when my little guy started Kindergarten this past year.

Sorry for not having miles/minutes to report. Tuesday was baseball practice for 6-yo DS, Wednesday was their league championship (they won!) and team dinner, and yesterday was both DD's 9th birthday and our last day of school. Lots of celebrating... and lots of eating... so I really need to get back on track. I've got a 6-miler on the schedule for tomorrow. I hope the IT band is willing to go the distance. It will be my longest run in months!

Hey Goofs,
Long time, no report from me. I have been running (and will update the spreadsheet again eventually), but DW has been on a business trip since Monday, and with the preschool field trip Wednesday, and taking care of some things on the home front, I just haven't had as much time to post.

I got in mile repeats this morning (half-mile warmup or recovery, followed by a mile at faster than 5k pace, repeated 3 times), and I hope to get out for a good couple hours of trail running this weekend.

I suppose I could count yard work and the like too, but I honestly don't think about it much; I just lift the data from my SportTracks reports when I fill out the spreadsheet.

DW is at the doctor, so I'm on duty.

Got in a 54 mile bike and 4 mile run today, took about 3:40 or so.

Mikey needs him a nappy!

have a great weekend all...

Mike

Hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. DH and I went for a 24 mile ride today. Now it's time to do chores--or maybe just read, or nap.

Maura

Looks like the all day buckets of rain have stopped, now just the usual afternoon storms. Some areas got over 20 inches of rain.

Booked our vacation to NYC, lots of $$ but I need to come to terms that I can't take it with me so I might as well enjoy it now. My top priority for the hotel was a fitness room so I can burn off all of the bad food I plan on eating!

Updated the sheet. Hope everyone is having a great long weekend. My daughter has 9 days of school left and then on to high school, yikes!!

Hello Goofs! I'm sending you a long-lost Goof who wishes to return to your happy family. Please (re)welcome, Florida Girl/Shannon. She's up for the team again this year, and requested you specifically. :goodvibes

OH, lest you thought I forgot....

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday AND Tuesday Mixer :stitch:

Stop on by the 'Ohana team thread, where the mixer starts here!

I know this weekend is a vacation weekend for many of us, so we'll be running the mixer tomorrow (Monday) and Tuesday. This mixer question is a ringer, folks, but hopefully still fun:

What did you do for Memorial Day/Weekend?

Provide us with plenty of details & hopefully photos of your activities, gatherings, celebrations and how you observe the day (and spirit) of Memorial Day. :thumbsup2

Good morning Goofs!! Happy Memorial Day to everyone out there!:goodvibes

Welcome back Florida Girl!!!! How goes OKC? Do you like it there? Boy my sister sure did, she never came back!! :lmao:

Mike, can you add sk8tingmom and Florida to the spreadsheet and make sure to invite them to play too!! I hope everything is okay with your DW. And that things come back to normal for you all.

Okay, I am not sure I ever answered Liz about the organized untimed bike race so I am going to try and hit the dos and don'ts all at once. Yes, any RACE that you do or ORGANIZED EVENT that you do is double miles. Just because a bike race or a 5K is not timed does not mean that you cannot time yourself and double your time. So that is a YES to Liz on the double miles for the organized untimed bike event.

Yard work that you do sans power equipment (meaning riding lawnmower of course) counts as exercise. Why housework does not count equally I can only attribute to the fact that a man set the rules here. Gardening, yard work, hedge trimming, etcetera, they all count for minutes but not the miles unless you were pushmowing and really wanted to wear a pedometer...

I hope I have addressed the questions so far. And any of the new people who join mid to end of the month are welcome to post your miles that you have recorded for the entire month but I don't feel right about going back any further. I hope everyone agrees with that one.

Now that being said, I need to update the sheet myself....:upsidedow

I have been sitting around not doing much again this weekend. I seem to be okay motivating myself during the week but the weekend has become too much for me so I think I need to cut the run miles back for the weekend and make it not so overwhelming again and maybe start working my 5K plan for now and then move back up to maintenance. I know it's backward but that usually works for me. I am faster than I was before the marathon, I just don't have the drive to do the long miles right now. :rolleyes1 But I'll work on that. I saw the person that is partnerless for the MDI marathon this weekend and she is still talking about it so maybe I need to use that for motivation instead of hoping I can go to VAB. I also need to get DD14 out running as preseason for field hockey is a short 3 months away. :scared1::scared1:

Have a super Memorial Day everyone. We have a tiny parade in town that I think we are going to skip but I hope someone enjoys one somewhere for us!

Lisa: I did get one request to add, but not the other...I don't know who it was from the email, but the person who emailed earlier is added.

but if we get to add the state of Florida, we should clean up...

Good work staying consistent everyone...

Mike's Lair:

Slept in until 0600 today...it was glorious!

Heading out for an 1:40 bike ride, a 45 minute run, and then DW is going to work 3-11:30 :(

Good Morning Goofs!

Its been a busy week for me and a busier weekend. DD11 "graduated" from 5th grade with all the pomp and circumstance (and parties) that involves. Add in a visit form my inlaws and the usual end of school insanity for some excitement. But I never missed a run!

This weekend we have been painting. The entire downstairs. Every muscle in my body is screaming and we have another day of it today! I am adding in some hours for this - I just have to figure out how many!

The good enws is that the walls in the house are starting to look good. The bad news is that we have turned the house upside down trying to get all the painting done so the house looks trashed (with pretty walls)

I did get my long run in on Saturday. 10 miles of running then 10 hours of ladder climbing - no wonder my legs feel like jello.

Cecilia

Good morning Goofs! I'm heading out for a bike ride this morning before the thunderstorms hit. Saturday I ran 3.75 miles in 48 minutes, slower than usual because my MIL was visiting and insisted on coming with me. I didn't want to get too far ahead of her on the trail, so I walked more than jogged on my wog. Yesterday was 90 minutes of hockey - about 45 minutes of drills with the kids and 45 minutes of adult 1/2 ice pick up while the kids played on the other 1/2 of the ice. Ugh - I think pick-up hockey should count double! :)

Who do I PM to get access to the spreadsheet? I know "Mike", but havent put screen names and real names together yet!

Speaking of that - my real name is M., well it's Michelle, but no one ever calls me that - just M.

M... Mike is laxdef69. Sorry, I forget that we have not all been around for eons sometimes. :goodvibes

And yes Mike, you caught me again darn you. FloridaGirl, not just Florida. I was trying to remember and then forgot to go back. If I remember right, it is Shannon but you may want to just check that. My brain is failing in my senior years....:rolleyes1

Cecilia, you should have called! I LOVE to paint!!! Besides, then I wouldn't have to do the laundry, and the lawn, and the yard sale stuff....:lmao:

Morning Goofs!!

Lisa - thx for the 411 on the miles. Way cool since I did a 32 mile event yesterday. Bike the Drive - it's where they close down Lake Shore Drive to cars from 5.30 am to 10am. Its the major road that runs right along the lake thru the city. Highly recommend it to anyone who is in the area.

We did yard work all day Saturday. Re-set pond and waterfall, turned over beds, planted flowers and veggies, mowed, trimmed, mulched. Lots of hours to log.

Cecilia/Lisa - project here over next month is to paint several rooms and re-do one of the baths. Any volunteers? ;)

Mike - ok, starting to worry about the tri. Yes it's only a sprint but still a bit worried. Mainly the swim and transition from it. Been doing reading but have to figure out a way to set up a practice transition for it. At least getting from water to bike gear. Ideas? (will ask on tri thread too - I can freak out in multiple places)

Big Hello to everyone!

Patrick is working today so think I'll do house work. Yay. Oh well, has to be done.

Don't worry about the tri, the naperville tri is a blast.

The very first thing I try to remember is that unless you are shooting for the platform, an extra 30 seconds or even 2 minutes in transition makes no difference!

I check tire pressure the night before, and check it right when you take the bike off your car.(While I train at 120 lbs, I normally inflate to 110...Lots of people over inflate, and then have blowouts)

Double check to make sure that the brakes aren't rubbing when you put the tire back on.

Make sure the bike is in the correct gear for starting...you don't want to be in a hammer gear while mounting up, do you?

I rest my helmet on my handlebars, with my sun glasses inside.

I put a small towel on the ground, and put my riding shoes on top of my running shoes (since I will need the riding shoes first), and put my socks in the riding shoes (top level triathletes ride and run with no socks, but hey, that's not and never will be me), then cover that with my drying towel.

If I'm going to have a GU (or 5) I tape them to the top tube of the bike the night before with electrical tape.

FIRST THING ON is the helmet, and buckle it...no time penalties for me there!

Then I make sure my feet are dry (the time you spend drying your feet will be more than saved trying to pull socks on wet feet) and have as little sand or grit as possible.

Socks on.

Riding shoes on.

If there is any food coming with me (cliff bars bananas, etc) those go in one of back pockets of the tri top.

Sunblock if you choose.

wog the bike out of transition past the mat/white line where you are allowed to mount up.

Mount up.

Leave em in the dust!

Mike

P.S. I can't remember where I read it but I found this to be true...there are two kinds of people who pass you in a race...those who should; and those you will see again.

Remember to pace yourself and have fun!

mike
