Super Goofs moving into May

Quick note Goofs, since it's been a long day.

Medium-hard 3 miles and some yesterday, at a 6:48 pace. I probably would have done better, but some idiot actually ran me off the road (and I didn't even try to stay on the shoulder, just in case), and it through me off stride for close to a mile.

Not quite 6.5 miles today, at a much easier pace. The run group decided to meet at Kellogg forest, and I helped pace some other runners. For the first two loops, I ran at their pace, and when they decided they were done, I ran another at the best pace I could manage with my pack on. I've started training with my hydration pack again - I'm beginning a long training cycle to get ready for the heavy division in the Bataan Memorial Marathon, so I'm going to be adding about 5 pounds to the weight of my pack every month for the rest of the year or so.

Hello Goofs...thanks for welcoming me back! I hope everyone had a nice Memorial weekend. As for me, we just took it easy. I was a bum on Saturday, took the kids swimming yesterday, and spent 5 hours outside with my husband today reconstructing the kid's wooden playset (we're 75% done)...it was damaged in a tornado that hit our house in February...gotta love Oklahoma  I did manage to get a few work outs in, so I'll be sure to log those.

Lisa -- OKC is not bad...I didn't expect much, so I was very pleasantly surprised ;) We live in Edmond...a suburb about 20 min north of OKC, which is a very nice area. I didn't get around to running the OKC Memorial Half...I was too busy...I guess there's next year.

Mike -- the request for the spreadsheet was from me...thanks for granting me access.

Cecilia -- congrats on DD's graduation! Kid's grow up so fast...mine are DS9 and DD4, and it seems like they were babies just yesterday.

Liz -- don't worry about the tri, just go out and have fun. I've only done a couple of sprints, but you'll see the transition is not too big of a deal...just remember where you put your stuff :goodvibes

10 hours of ladder climbing??? How long was that stinkin' ladder? ;)

I "officially" started my Mickey training program this week. It's lower mileage for now but a fourth day of running each week.

I ran a small 5K yesterday. This was the second year I've run it. It's in a small town of 200 people and is a fundraiser for the volunteer fire department there. I had a great time and it was pretty challenging for me. I still feel like my 2.5-week vacation set me back six months of training.

I was very pleased with my time. The official results haven't been posted yet but according to my Garmin, I was 26:36 which is a new 5K PR for me. I was thrilled to get a 3rd place medal for my combined gender age group.

I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. Good luck with your training this week!

The very first thing I try to remember is that unless you are shooting for the platform, an extra 30 seconds or even 2 minutes in transition makes no difference!

Mike - I am laughing out loud at your tri transition schedule (which hurts because every muscle in my body is screaming) not because its funny, but because you sounded just like dh.

At his first tri, he sat down to put on his socks. Being the supportive wife that I am, I am screaming "go go" and he yells back that he is trying not to throw up lake water while putting on his socks. Gee, I don't know why I have never wanted to attempt a tri...

last year, as a relay competitor, I got front row seats to watch the pros transition. Lets just say that they are not concerned about hygene or comfort. They are plain inhuman. Who runs without socks? or body glide for that matter.

Liz - Good luck!! it WILL be fun. Mike gave good advice. Especially the towel. My sister puts a small container of water with her stuff to wash the grass off her feet. She steps in the water then onto a towel which is on another towel. (so she can use the top towel to sry her feet.)

Me? Painting is done. 7 gallons of paint on the walls. I am trying to like the color of the great room but so far, I hate it. I see more painting in my future.

Cecilia

14 mile bike ride yesterday - slower than usual since DS10 came with me for the first time, so I let him set the pace. We made it in 1:15 & he did great!

I use a squirt-top water bottle to hose off the sand and grass. It is less likely to get dumped over by everyone who hits T1 before me.

Morning Goofs. Back to work for me. Everyone sounds like they had busy & productive weekends. Mine was reasonably so. Got in a couple of workouts and some random chores. Nothing too intense, unless you count lighting up the grill a couple of times!

Lisa I hear you about the weekends and not always getting out there. Seems like I always want to "wake up and smell the coffee" on the weekends, and not just get out there at the crack of dawn. That's whay I usually end up doing a double on Sundays!

Time to get back to work--trying to remember what needs doing before the uh-oh moments set in.

Morning Team!

Mike - thx for the advice! Didn't think of stacking my shoes. :upsidedow And you're right, not going to make the podium so just need to calm down and enjoy...calm...calm.....

Shannon - oh good, one more thing to worry about....WHERE I left my stuff...

Cecilia - Run w/o socks or body glide??? :scared: Just not right.

Thx for the info on the water to get sand/grass off feet. Like M's idea of the squirt bottle as there will be alot of folks in T1 before me for sure.

Thanks everyone for the support. I'll likely need it again over the next few weeks so please just bear with me.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and WTG on getting out and doing.

Rest day yesterday for me. Tonight is gym for pool/weights/core.

Have a great day!

One other thing, I make extra sure to know where my bike is.

Pick a landmark, or count (twice!) how many rack rows the entrance to T-1 to your rack is...the bikes look alike, and there will be hundreds of them.

Another thing that people do in larger tri events is tie a big gaudy helium balloon on the rack to make it easier to find...totally legal, and your rackmates will (may) appreciate it, too.

Mike

I just updated my miles/minutes for May, so I should be caught up with the rest of the team now. I hope to get a run and some weights in this evening while my DS is at swimming lessons. I feel pretty tired today...let's hope I have the energy.

Lisa -- just noticed your avatar pic...your arms look awesome...what's your secret?

Thats a good tidbit right there.

If you don't want to get puked on, don't read the rest of my message, as I'm really feeling sorry for myself.

I'm a bit down with the workout schedule...I thought that the ocean of endorphins in my system might help me feel better, but I'm pretty cranky right now.

My training partner bailed on me after 15 minutes in the pool this AM...and this whole Ironman thing was HIS idea in the first place! grrrrrrrrrrrr

I got somewhere between 2000 and 3000 yards in the pool today in an hour...I was so frustrated that i lost track....then was frustrated about that.

Not a great start to the day, but at least my garage didn't leak from the heavy rains last night; oh, yeah, it did. :headache:

Feel free to wallow, if you must. We all need to do that from time to time, but HEY you got up, you got out there, kudos to you! If you train 5 days a week, that's 260 times a year. They can't all be spectacular.

AND it's 260 more work outs than 1/2 the US population!

Mike - we all need to vent or feel sorry for ourselves from time to time. We're teammates so you can always let it out here. Like M said, you did get something done which is far better than nothing. Hang in there!

Hey gang. I've been letting life get in the way lately, and I need to make my workouts more of a priority. I did my long run (6 miles) a day late and ran two miles tonight for the first time since Sunday. But I do have a freshly painted master bathroom. Cecilia, you're my hero for having done the entire downstairs this weekend! :worship:

Just updated the sheet. Long walk yesterday in 90 degree weather, it wasn't even cool in the shade! I think I need to start carrying 2 water bottles instead of 1.

7 days of school left and then my daughter will be a freshman. Yikes.

Anyone have kids who do school online either or a few classes or all classes? I just signed up my daughter for Florida Virtual School to take her health/PE class over the summer. Waiting to hear back from the guidance dept as to what else I need to do so she gets credit for it.

Hi everyone! It was a hot, humid gym this morning, so my planned 3 x 1-mile repeats didn't quite go as they should have. I gave up midway through the third. At least I got in about 3.5 or so miles.

Mike We all now how dedicated you have been in your training. One or two or a few stonker days, or down moments are to be expected. We all believe that you can and will do this, so just remember that next time you're out there.

Suzanne Never done virtual classes before, although my DD did Health class over the summer, too, just to get it out of the way and have more time during school for something she wanted to take! BTW, when are you going to NYC? You should check out the hotel rewards programs. They always run specials. I have gotten emails from Omni, Hilton, Marriott. Seems like everyone is having a special.

Well, gotta go get some work done. Take care all.

Maura

Morning Goofs!!

Mike  to you buddy. You know you can come here and let it all fly. We understand and feel your pain. You work so hard all the time, you have to expect that the down days come.

Suzanne, no virtual classes here. DD14 got her field hockey schedule and they start the day after school end. Plus softball one night a week and 3 tourneys this year (yay only 3) and that adds up to when would she ever do the virtual classes? It is good that your DD can get some credits under way though!!

Shannon, hard work. That's where those arms came from. I love that picture as it shows how hard I have been working on balancing my upper body to my lower body. Now how to find my lats again... Oh and my abs...:rolleyes1

Everyone else...:cloud9:

I did my oil change, groceries, laundry, house cleaning and yard sale preparation yesterday..:scared1: and no there was not time for anything else. Today is hair, softball game if it clears off and maybe, just maybe, a bike ride in the evening if the rains stay away. Don't hold your breath though!
Tomorrow is a run day again, finally for me. I will be glad for school end to get a schedule back so I can maybe get my training on track again. I missed the gym this week too . Tomorrow is another day though right????

Happy days Goofs and enjoy the sun if you have it!!

My training partner bailed on me after 15 minutes in the pool this AM...and this whole Ironman thing was HIS idea in the first place! grrrrrrrrrrrr

Ok, when this happens you have to use it - start thinking of how crappy he is gonna feel when you complete the ironman and he doesn't. Or visualize waiting at the finish line in clean clothes all showered up while he drags himself in. (Me? I have a beer in hand, even if I couldn't think about trying to drink it. I'd borrow one just for the affect.) Use his lame attitude to fuel your workout instead of letting it zap you.

I often visualize stomping my partner in a race, especially at the end of a long run when there is nothing left to push with. I doubt she would worry if she knew, but it does help me find that last little bit of energy to finish with.

Kim - I ran yesterday after 3 days of painting and my quads were SCREAMING. Even worse is that the main color is ever so slightly off so I have to start over this week..... I am not gonna cry, I am NOT gonna cry....

I believe its the workouts we hate the most that make us better athletes. Its the workouts that steal our joy in our sport & steal our enthusiam & steal our confidence in our abilities that eventually take us across the finish line. Sure there are a few souls out there that can train effortlessly. but I think they miss out on some of the most incredible moments. They never experience the satisfaction of having pushed back when life or their body or their mind says no more. I doubt they experience the same level of satisfaction at the finish line.
You must do the impossible before you learn that nothing is impossible.

All right, go run.

Not so good morning Goofs...DD14 got hit in the face with a softball last night while pitching at the game. She got her head turned in time but it struck right at her TMJ on the right side just in front of her ear. She is swollen and sore this morning. Nursing her with smoothies. Good thing I make a mean smoothie AND have lots of protein powder on hand. Anyway, happy thoughts this way. No concussion just a lot of pain and discontent in her world today. Thank goodness middle school softball has 1 more game and she will not pitch ever again. Back to catching and third base. Those are bad enough.

Have a great day Goofs and I hope it is NOT raining where you are!! :upsidedow

Gee, I could asworn I posted on here yesterday? Hey wait. I did--I just did it BEFORE Lisa. Wow. Were you sleeping in?

Lisa Glad to hear that your daughter escaped a more serious injury. And did you tell her that she didn't have to go through all that trouble just to get a smoothie? :lmao:

Light week for me, it seems. Took today off since I signed up to run the Oak Apple 10k tomorrow. Hoping to beat my only 10k time from December of 54:50. Given that I am only running two days/week as part of my current plan, we'll see. I have been doing the speed work portion of my old running plan, but have very low mileage totals. Anyway, weather is looking reasonable and it's a race that I have been to many times as a spectator when my DH rani it, but never as a participant.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend.

Maura

Lisa: Sorry to hear about DD.....sending many :wizard::wizard: I hope she feels better soon! Smoothies are a great idea, since chewing isn't what she wants to do now!
