Super Goofs moving into May

Congrats Megan and Angie on your races.

Angie, I wish I was there to cheer you on!! Why would the race people pull up the finishers mat and put away all of the food before the 4 hour mark? That makes no sense to me.

Just updated the spread sheet. Still planning on Race for the Taste and Tower of Terror this fall for the extra medal!!

yesterday, professionally speaking.

I got in 6.93 miles this morning in 1:07...just can't seem to break the sub 10 minute mile consistently....my knees are back to being painful, and making up for lost time :headache:

Thinking i might take a mental health day or two...

Morning Mikey!!! :goodvibes

Mike, maybe trying to break the 10 mpm pace is what is hurting your knees right now. I know we all want to be fasty fast fast, but sometimes you have to slow it down and find your baseline again. Shan is working through this too. Remember, you are never alone here. You know, we will haunt you in your dreams...:cloud9::scared1::scared1:

And PS, I had a crapolicious day yesterday too. I think everyone I know did...:scared:

Angie, nice job persevering and poohing the naysayers. You always have some of those in a crowd. Just ignore the little people and move on. You were right, you may have been DLF but he was DNS and we all know who wins there. I do dislike that they are pulling up the mats and such before the time limit expires though. I think I would zip a note to the RD for that one.

Megan, nice job on your race too!!

Maura, DH says I am a funny girl after my procedures. Since I get to have one a year, he gets to laugh at least once a year...:confused3

Kim, great job on your race also. It is not setting the bar low, it is slowly moving forward and improving. If you set all your super fast PRs out of the gate, where would you be then. Right Patrick, my voice of reason....

Liz and Patrick,:hug: One for each of you. Miss you both.

Cecilia, I hope things are calm(ish) for you this week.

Everyone else...:grouphug: As DD14 used to call it when she was 3 "droup hug".

I made it to the gym and did the fastest upper body workout ever, then 30 minutes on the elliptical. Rush, rush, rush. That's all I did yesterday. When I hit the couch at 8:30 last night, I think I just passed out. I was sooooo tired. And today I am stressed about tomorrow. Not the prep, the actual test. It drives me crazy until it is over. Most of you know why so I won't go into the gory details. Lets just all send me some :wizard: and get this over with.

I would like to walk this afternoon before DD14s game but I will have to see how my starving body feels in awhile. I am eating my last few bites for the day as we speak. This just has to go well. You cannot complete a marathon and have something wrong with you...right...back me up here. Of course I said that last year and the year before with the half marathons...:rolleyes1

I hope everyone has a great day!! Just remember, it has to be better than mine!!!! :upsidedow

You cannot complete a marathon and have something wrong with you...right...back me up here.

I think the theory was that you're "immune" from heart attacks for a period of at least one year after running a marathon, but I love the idea that it should give you a "Get Out of Jail Free" card as far as your overall health is concerned. I hope your body and your docs are on board with that theory as well! :wizard:

Angie, I want to just run after that troop leader and smack him upside the head for his comment. Of course, it might take the full 13.1 miles before tortoise-like me could catch up to his hare(brained) self, but it would be SO worth it. I hate that it was a ghost town when you finished... you were a full 12 minutes ahead of the sweep time and were more than entitled to have a real chip time and refreshments. I agree with Lisa that contacting the RD would be a good idea.

Morning Goofs!

I've been sick for the past few days with some sort of chest crud. I've managed to get in a run every day, but I bagged my weekend long run, and everything else is cut to a bare minimum. I'm hoping to get over it soon, but since I don't get days off, it's just kind of lingering on.

I have a 10k and a 5k race on Saturday, so if nothing else, I can contribute some decent miles this week. And, in August, I have registered for an 8 hour ultra event.

Angie - you finished, he didn't even start. Who is the tougher person? I'd fire off a message to the RD though - you were well under the sweep time, so the mat and stuff should still have been in place.

Hi, all

Got in 40 minutes on the bike today--just didn't have my act together to make it into the pool. If I'm not there, dressed, at 5:30 am, then it fills up.

Lisa Hang in there. This too shall pass (Ooh, really bad pun!)

Shan Glad you got in your longest run to date. Slow, but steady will get you there.

Mike and SAHDad Hang in there and feel better.

DS turns 17 on Thursday--time to go order him a cake and his present of choice (something to do with his electric guitar)

Maura

Wow....two posts in a row...very quiet.

Well, wanted to do the pool this am, but timing has to be impeccable. And when the dog grabbed two bananas (he has great leaping ability and is very dextrous) off the top of the microwave, that set off a round the house chase to retrieve them. Lost time means no pool. Did my speedwork instead. That gets the heart pumping.

And then to keep it pumping, DS got in a car accident--he's okay, but someone pulled into his lane, hit him and the car flipped on its side. So now comes the process of getting the car fixed and hopefully fully paid for. And oh yeah, tomorrow is his birthday!

Hope everyone else is mototring along smoothly.

Hello,

How awful. That sounds like a really bad day in no uncertain terms.

Mowed the lawn yesterday for 120 minutes on the spreadsheet.

Had hoped to get outside for a run right after work, but it was raining and well, I know it is a bad excuse, but just could not force myself to go down in the basement on the treadmill. Tomorrow is another day

Hope everyone is having a better "hump day".

Lynn

Hey Goofs, still here, still updating the spreadsheet, just dealing with life.

Maura, glad your son is OK. Happy birthday to him!!

Hope everyone else is doing great!

Tried to schedule vacation time this summer while my daughter is out of school and was told there is nothing available for June, July or August. Yeah, ok, looks like I will be coming down with a week long illness this summer.

Morning Goofs!

Maura, it is eerily quiet around here lately. Where are all the Goofs???

Lynn, nice to see your smiling face here again! :goodvibes

Rich, if I did not feel well I sure would not have a 10K and a 5K on for the weekend! Best of luck and feel better soon.

Mike, I hope you are feeling better too. We miss you around here!

Suzanne, what no OOB vacation this year??

Cecilia, where are you???

Liz and Patrick, to you.

Everyone else, :wave2:

As for me, yearly testing is done. We are now out to 3 years :woohoo: as I DID get the "get out of jail free" card. I guess I have to do a marathon in 3 years just before my testing again. The half did not see to work as well. At least I know something works!

I am headed to the gym today and then to the grocery store as my normal shopping day was, well, occupied. Passing on the softball game tonight as it is a long distance to travel for a blowout game. DS7 had his game last night and I made it. They did well but he struck out for the first time (and the second time) EVER in a game! Still trying to figure that one out...

Have a super day Goofs and check in here, will ya????? :upsidedow

Hi all -

This has been a tough week for me. As you may or may not know, I am a trained christian counselor. Its a volunteer job that usually gives me more blessings than money can buy.

On Saturday I was called to the hospital for a young man (27) that had just lost his bride (24) in a horrific car accident. Her femoral artery was severed and she bled out in his arms. When I got to the hospital he was refusing to wash her blood off his body. I ended up sitting with him and his parents most of the night. Not that there was anything I could say, the time for that is later, but his mom had a death grip on my hand so I stayed.

Then on Monday night a father in our church was returning home from work and his 18 month old son ran to the car to greet his dad. The car was an SUV and dad never saw the baby and ran over and killed him. To make it worse, the other 3 children and their mom were only yards away and saw the entire thing happen. Scott was my son's football coach and he and his wife are our friends. He is one of the greatest dads and has a huge heart for kids. It is my deepest prayer that he and his wife can find some sort of peace with this and that it does not destroy their life.

So needless to say, I have been extrordinarily busy. I am emotionally and physically wrecked. I was up all night Saturdayand then again on Monday. The funerals were yesterday. Yes, two in one day. So much grief. Usually I can store all the sorrow I get exposed to away and it only makes me more grateful and joyful in my own life. Not this week.

On a positive note, I have had a couple amazing runs this week. I ran faster and harder than I usually do. Yesterday I put Third Day on the headphones and ran 5 miles in 44 minutes. I didn't even realise I was running that fast until I got home and looked at my garmin. I just needed to get to that point where the only thing you can think about is breathing. It helped.

Sorry this is so long. Do me a favor and go hug your kids, one of those big long hugs that they hate. Maura - I am profoundly grateful that your son is okay. He gets two hugs.

Take care all and drive safely.

Cecilia

Cecilia,:hug::hug::hug::hug: for you. After yesterday, I did hug my kids but I will give them another one. You are a special person through and through.

Lisa, glad the test went well!

Cecilia, I dont know how you do it...hopefully things will settle down for you!

Suzanne, could be worse, you could be laid off like me, and have an unpaid vacation!

Maura, so glad you son is ok, how scary!!

I have my DD birthday on Saturday, a 5K on Sunday, and a 5K on Wednesday. Then into graduation stuff for my DS

Cecilia God bless you for doing what you do--it takes a special kind of person. Maybe your fast run was partial payment from "the big guy"!

Angie I hope you find some positive outcome with your employment situation soon.

Suzanne Wow! Who filled up the vacation calendar? I hope you can arrange something. At least you're not an airline pilot, like one of my sisters. Every month, a different schedule--you never know when you're off and can't really plan! Plus her DH is also a pilot. It's a wonder they ever see one another!

No gym for me today--early teleconference. Pool tomorrow for sure, or else!

Maura

So sorry Cecilia. I saw on the news about the baby being hit. My heart breaks for them. I hope they can get through this. We knew someone whose child drowned while the dad was supposed to be watching him. Things like this can be extremely hard on the marriage. My prayers go out to them and also to the young man who lost his wife.

Maura, so glad your son is OK!

Well, I need to make this short, life is very busy this month.

Hugs Goofs! :grouphug:

Cecelia, I'm so, so sorry to hear of these two tragedies, but I'm glad you were able to be there for the families when they really needed you. You are truly a special, wonderful person for doing this. I know that professional therapists are strongly encouraged to seek counseling themselves to help them process everything they hear, and it sounds like you've heard quite a lot this week, so I hope you also have someone you can turn to. I also hope your family friends are able to find peace. I can't even imagine what they are going through and plan to give DD and DS lots of extra hugs tonight.

Now on to some happier thoughts.

Lisa, hooray for your "get out of jail free" card!

Maura, happy birthday to your son. I'm so glad he's OK after that accident. How scary, though!

My runs lately have been nothing to brag about. I'm getting two miles in every other day or so, but they're slow miles and my legs feel tired all the time. I think I'm going to start taking a multivitamin again and see if that helps.

Posting quickly to keep the thread alive. Where is everyone? Twittering or something??????

Everyone is doing great posting their numbers, well except me, and I will be checking in next week to see who needs to be reminded and who needs to be made inactive. Sad reality I guess that we start so strong and then lose people as we go. Love the core group though, I hope you all NEVER leave!! :goodvibes

Running this afternoon and then kid running all weekend. What was supposed to be a laid back weekend has turned into another nightmare weekend where I don't know if we will fit everything in. Trying to fit in a longer run over the weekend somewhere, fingers crossed. Now that all this mess is behind me I need to get back to a schedule again where I can have a little time for myself...I know, good luck with that.

Have a great weekend everyone and, someone, keep this thread breathing while I am off the computer this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :upsidedow

Cecelia Yikes. Sorry to hear about those tragedies. Such an awful week.

Maura - Glad to hear your son is okay.

As for me, I'm finally (mostly) over that chest crud. I managed to get in my daily runs, so the streak is still going. I finally broke down and ordered new shoes - my old pair saw daily use from late January on, and I think I put close to 400 miles on them. New ones arrived Wednesday, and last night I came close to breaking my current 5k time - at the end of the day, tired, hungry, and without competition. Hopefully the two races tomorrow go as well.

Got 5 miles in today, tried to keep the pace easy. 10k and 5k are on tap for tomorrow, and then probably 5 or 6 miles on Sunday. Have a good weekend Goofs!

Happy Friday, all and TGIF! Got in a swim this morning-finally. Another one on tap for the weekend along with a run.

Found out a little while ago that the insurance adjuster has written off the car as a total loss! Not what I was expecting and now we are faced with the hassle of coming up with another vehicle. Gotta do it since DH and I both drive company cars and son can't drive them. And we are not going back in the business of being chauffeurs!

SAHDadWow! 2 races in one day. I am impressed. Hoep they go well.

Lisa I will consider myself "reminded" right now to update the spreadsheet. Always seem to forget when I'm home and then can't at work!

Everyone else--hang in there! I am lookinf forward to a nice long weekend next weekend, although getting to it may be a challenge. Big, last minute assignment and boss is going off for a few days!

Maura
