Super Goofs moving into May

Glad to hear your MIL is doing better, Liz. Best of luck with your tri!

I hope everyone who was hurting is feeling better now.

I've been trying to be consistent with my 2-mile daily runs, but I had to take yesterday off. The legs were simply too tired. I'll make up for it tomorrow, though. I just signed up for an 8K instead of the 5K I was planning on. It will feature my nemesis: the 5K trail that has a killer hill toward the end, except this time, I'll have to keep running even farther after climbing the stupid thing.

I know what Devil's Spit is...it's super hot spicy sauce you get at Famous Dave's (bbq pit), it's yummy!

I have a Half tomorrow, wish me luck!

Best of luck tomorrow, Angie!!! Those double miles will sure look good on the spreadsheet. And thanks for explaining about Devil's Spit. What a great name for a hot sauce!

Not much time to post but I've updated the mileage sheet.

Good luck Angie, wish I were there to cheer you on!

Liz, glad your MIL is doing better.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there, hope you have a great day!!

I've got the Race for the Cure tomorrow in Philly. I'm going to be wearing my running skirt and my bondiband with the pink ribbon on it. I'll probably have my princess top on under my race t-shirt. My goal is less than 40 minutes. Originally 30 minutes was my goal, but I haven't been training as much as I should have been and neither has my friends that is running with me. I just need to go get some of the lotion with self tanner in it so that my pasty white legs don't look so bad next to the pale skirt.

oh! A question for everyone. What happens after my toenails turn black and fall off. I have two that are almost completely gone? Will they grow back? I also got new shoes so hopefull they will not have problems like this again.

Megan Good luck on the race. I haven't lost a toe nail before, but they should all grow back.

Went for a 24 mile ride this morning before the rain hit. Now it's tea time, then maybe nap time, or maybe tee time (zone out watching golf). Many errands to go run.....

Maura

SAHDad, got the cards today. Thank you!!! :woohoo:

You're welcome. I didn't know if you could get multiple passes with one card or not, so I figured I would send them all. (If you don't need all of them, them feel free to pass the extras along to people.)

Good Morning Goofs!!

Happy Mother's Day! For me, this means a much needed break from the ballparks. I was all over North Atlanta yesterday with games at 4 different parks. And now the travel teams are calling us to have our girls as substitutes for June tournaments! Am I a bad mom if I send them off to a tournament and I stay home? I really want to paint the downstairs rooms now that I have picked the colors.

If you leave the toenail alone, a new nail should already be in place when the old one falls off. This one might be thin and fall off too or it might be just fine. This nail will be short to begin with but it should grow in completely normal. And even if it takes a while to get the new nail in, you can paint a pretend one on or a good pedicurist can put a fake one on in the mean time. I have lost at least one toenail after every marathon. This last time, I thought I was going to keep one of the two nails that turned purple but it fell off after 4 months.

Shan - I hope the steroids do the trick.

Go Angie Go!!

Cecilia

Ya, I lost a toenail for my first half and I had a new one underneath. Quite creepy!

Cecilia, have you run the 10K Classic before? Is it as brutal as I think it will be?

Hope everyone is having a nice Mother's Day! :grouphug:

Real WTO/LTO here the last week/10 days.

Huge projects due at work, with hair on fire deadlines, a miserable cold/upper respiratory issues and work travel have taken a toll on my training, attitude and moods...so I've been staying away to avoid puking on my buddies here at DIS.

I was able to run today (slowly, 9.5 miles in 1:34:00) and then a slow windy bike ride, but feel like I'm working with between 70 and 80% lung capacity...

Hoping next week is better...

Mike

Morning everyone!! Happy Monday!!!

Mike, you know we love you here and miss you when you are gone. I find that letting it go on here sometimes improves my mood and, well, none of us judge any of the others the way the significant others in our lives do. It's all good here, remember that.

Angie, I hope the half went well for you!

Cecilia, I spent Mother's Day at a field hockey tournament so I feel your pain. Softball has just started and we have been fielding calls also. Thankfully, DD14 is going to be a freshman next year and has opted for staying with her friends/team mates. One team that called is taking only 4th of July weekend off, they are playing EVERY OTHER WEEKEND this summer. :scared1::scared1: Did I mention I was glad she was going to high school???

Devils spit is a great name for hot BBQ sauce, and, well it tastes great too. We stopped on the way back from the tourney and I got my Devils Spit burger, some sauce to go and they even threw in hellfire pickles for mother's day. :cloud9: How sweet is life anyway????

I have the gym and 3 super quickie miles on for today. DS7 has a baseball game tonight and I start my colonoscopy prep in the morning. Can you say foul mood tomorrow. No food after 8 am and procedure at 11 the next day...:furious: Everyone say a prayer for DH...:lmao:

Megan and Angie, how were your races?

I had a hot, humid 8K that really made me re-think the wisdom of signing up for a half marathon in DL over Labor Day weekend. I ran with a former TNT teammate and she wasn't loving it either, so we took it slow and finished in 1:10:22. At least I beat my previous 8K time, so it's technically a PR while still keeping the bar low for next time.

Lisa, best wishes for making it through the day tomorrow.

Mike, I hope this week is much better for you than last week!

-Kim

Hey Goofs!

Ran the furthest this morning since my surgery. Ran 4.19 in 48 minutes. I did a R5/W1. It wasn't too bad, although I was very red faced after! :headache:

Here's to an awesome week! :thumbsup2

sorry this is so long, but here's my race report...

Race due to start at 8am, left the house with plenty of time to find the place. Got to the school, got my bib, chip, and t-shirt, that’s all, the goodie bags were just flyers for upcoming races. Tried to use the bathroom, the water was shut off, it was nasty, couldn’t flush and lots of people had been there first, luckily there were porta-potties outside and along the course. Walked to the start line, the day was overcast and low 50’s, just perfect! We lined up wherever we wanted to, no pacers or anything, so I was closer to the front than normal, every little bit helps! Met some really nice runners, and they warned me about the hills. No gun or anything, just a guy shouted “GO” and we were off. About half a mile in, there was a family cheering someone on, they told her “you’re almost there”, had me laughing! I did really well (for me, remember, I am slow) for the first 6 or 7 miles, a lot of it was uphill, but it was gradual, so not too bad. There were clocks at each mile, and I had a good 5K time, a PR 10K and a PR 15K, but wasn’t done yet. Just after mile 7, the road was like a roller coaster, up a hill, down a hill, sharp corner into a hill, and it went like that to about mile 9. There were water stops about every 2 or so miles, until mile 7, then none until 10. I started to blister around mile 4 (only ended up with 2 this time!), but they didn’t get bad until around mile 10. Mile 10 I hit the wall. Hard. I was cramping really bad, the backs of my legs and my calves, I slowed down to barely moving, just really struggling. Got to the water stop, it was a Boy Scout troop. The boys were awesome, calling my number, telling me to keep going, BUT their leader was terrible. I got just past the tables, and I heard him, very clearly, say “she’s wearing the right shirt, dead last”. I’ve always felt that last was ok, (someone has to be last, right?), but it really hurt to hear it the way he said it. If a pick up vehicle had come by at that point, I think I would have quit, luckily none did. I pushed on, first with hurt feelings, then I got mad, who was he anyways, HE wasn’t running, HE wasn’t doing a half marathon, I was! I made it to mile 11, and it got better from there, I worked the cramps out (Tylenol helped) and got my head back in the right place, the hills weren’t as bad, and the last water stop cheered and told me to keep going. A lot of the runners were leaving as I got closer to the end, and they beeped and waved and hollered as they passed me. Finally I could see my daughter waving and then the finish line. They had already pulled the chip mat up, the food was gone, only a few people still hanging around, but they still cheered as I crossed. Not a great finish time, there was a 4 hour limit and I came in 3:48, but I did finish and that’s all that matters, I came in 974, DLF, and there were 153 runners that DNF. We got nice finisher medals, they match the shirt and the bibs. Would I do this one again? Maybe. Lots of hills, but they weren’t “that” bad, running along the lake gave me lots to look at, we even passed a “scenic view” at one point. I’d like to be faster though, so I could have been back for the awards ceremony, the snacks, and the massages that were done before I finished.

Congrats on the finish! Yay for sticking it out. It does suck that they started taking everything away though. Not right if they gave a 4 hour limit. I've taken on a Dory mentality myself for races. I was DLF for my first 5k last October. Most of the 10k-ers had finished before me. At least neither of us quit though!

Angie Congrats to you. And what kind of an idiot--a leader of children, no less, says that about someone? GRRRR! What kind of a message is he sending to his scouts? Hope they didn't listen to him.

KimWTG on your race--and it was a PR, so double bonus. Triple bonus for being smart and not killing yourself in the heat.

Lisa Good luck on the procedure. My DH just had his done last week--I was the designated driver. Boy was he funny coming out of the op--really chatty--not like him! It does make you loopy. No wonder they say don't sign any contracts for 24 hours!
