Super Goofs Challenge April Edition

You are forgiven.

So I guess the start will be like ToT last year if anyone did that one. All I remember is this sea of people and a mass start for the 13K and then the 6.5K. Sooooo many people. I have heard great things about this race and my SIL is very excited as she used to live in Newmarket. At least I won't get lost...:sad2:

I only have my WISH backpack (thank you again Karen) and 2 cotton WISH tees that I could not wear during a long race. I could get by with them for a 5K but not a half. I let my mom and aunt wear them to scream team at the half and then wore one to scream team the start of the full.

Hey, anyone see that Air Tran has April Fools cheapy cheap cheap fares out today. Can you say Minnie....DH would absolutely kill me!!!!!!!!!

Checking in (with ice on my legs)....Yesterday did my 50 minutes of stretch/strengthen (no legs) and today went to do my 3 miler. Been fighting the shin/ankle tightness, which I really sincerely hope is just residual vacation hiking strain. ANyway, felt good to start so I did a few intervals at 9 mpm. Somewhere around 2 miles started to tighten up and by 2.5 miles I decided it wasn't worth it, so I slowed to a walk. Managed to get in another short interval at the end for my total 3.1 miles in 31 minutes, but I'm freaked out about the shins. I have been training for 3 months now and have had no problems. Been religious about stretching and have been pain free--even the knees, which I really thought would be the killer. But now, I'm worried.
No more speed work, and probably not gonna run the 10k this weekend that I was thinking about.
Sigh.......hope this goes away.

Maura

Maura, sorry for the pain. The ice should help. Try some Advil too. It sounds like you need some stretching. Here is one painful one we do to my DD the gymnast. Sit on the floor with legs straight and toes pointed. Have someone gently, I should say GENTLY, press your toes straighter. It really pulls the shins. Then ice some more. See if this helps you out some. Walking and hiking will stress different muscle zones than running. You were doing more toe pushing (believe it or not) than you do when you run in a more fluid efficient motion. I hope this helps!!! :flower3:

So, I ended up taking yesterday off......with the heating pad on my back. Boy, this back issue is really starting to work on my nerves. I need my running time.....without it, I am a b____. Just ask dh.....he'll tell you. I figured since I ran 10 on Sunday, I could take the day off justifiably, but boy I wasn't happy about it.....missed my Pilates class (again)!:headache:

I will have to do something tonight.....maybe the elliptical or treadmill. Rest is hard for me ((((I never thought I would EVER say something like that!)))) I feel really lazy!

Beth

Beth: :wizard: and a  I will coin Debra's (DKP) phrase that I get snarky when I don't work out. Try some yoga, it is very calming.

I hope everyone is doing well. There is not much chatter on this new thread. I know spring is intimidating :yay: :cool1: :dance3: but we have to work our way through it!! lol

I ran today, just a short 30 minute run...okay...30:18 because I HAD to finish 3 miles. Okay, okay, 3.01 miles but whose counting. Oh wait, I am. :lmao: I felt pretty good. I only cough for about the first half mile and then it all becomes breathing and running. This is my first 10:05 mpm average on a short run. I am feeling pretty good right now. (Seriously there needs to be a back patting smilie) I ran in my lime hoodie and capris with my marathon belt, sport beans and phone in the pouch as a test drive. I hate to go out unprepared. The capris feel like they are falling off when I run, not uncomfortable, I just have to keep checking to make sure I am not exposing myself. I have now firmly decided to pack my pants...capris...running skirt...:scared1: :rotfl: 52 degrees and sunny looks AWESOME like a heat wave for me so now I have no idea what I will be wearing. :rolleyes1

Hi everyone!

Cecilia - great job on the half-marathon! You rock!

Lisa - love those tapers!

Sending :wizard: to all those injured/sick.

I'm so disappointed. I just found out today that I was not chosen to participate in the Nike Women's half-marathon this year. Because the race filled up within 1 day last year, Nike decided to do a lottery this year. There were over 30,000 that signed up for the lottery and 20,000 were chosen. That means I had 2 in 3 chances to get in and I DIDN'T! Bummer!!!!!!!! I did it last year and had a blast. Bummer!!!! I could sign up through TnT but we don't have a chapter any where in the whole state. Triple bummer!

Lisa - I have some times for you. Since you've completed the monthly totals, I can just add these to this weeks. However you want to do this is fine.

Me:
Saturday 1 hr/2 miles
Sunday 1.5 hrs/6 miles
Monday 1 hr/2 miles

Steve:
Saturday 1.5 hrs/2 miles
Sunday 1 hour/ 3.5 miles
Monday 1.05 hrs/4.5 miles

Coming up, 10-miler this weekend in preparation for my half later this month.

Hi Everyone -

No exercise to report here. I am still sick but worse, DD11 got it too. She gets extremely high fevers when she is sick AND she is allergic to almost every known antibiotic there is, so we have to watch her very very carefully.

She woke up with a fever of 104. Motrin didn't touch it. Put her in a cool bath and she cried pathetically. Did the motrin/tylenol trick and it stayed at a 104. I force fed her water, fresca, and tomato juice all day. Poor thing, I kept having to wake her up to take her temp.

Right now, the Dr says he will live with 104 but check it every 20 minutes and watch her like a hawk. Generally when it climbs much over 105, her eyes roll up and I know its time for the hospital. She has been admitted 9 times with super high fevers so I pretty much know the routine. They keep telling me she'll out grow it.

Escape -Check out the virtual TNT. Much like the disboards only with entries for some races. I have no idea if they are doing NIKE, but its worth a look. Sorry you didn't get in.

Cecilia

Cecilia Sending lots of good vibes you and your daughter's way. I hope her fever breaks soon.

Maura

Hi,

Happy April Fool's day to all.

60 minutes for exercise for me today.
bike for 20 minutes for 5.1 miles.
40 minutes for strength/exercising.

Have a terrific evening.

Tomorrow is more c25k for me.

3/31
1.5 miles/23 mins

4/1
4 miles/62 mins

Question, my sneakers have about 150 miles on them, and I am fine when running/walking, but it seems like later I get some pain in my heel. Almost feels like when you step on a rock in barefeet. Think it's my shoes, or something else? Thanks!

Other than Cecelia's DD, is everyone feeling better today?

Good morning Goofy's! I am happy to report my back in somewhat better today! :cool1: I got a run in last night wearing a heat pack on my back (boy, it really helped!)

Time: 60:00 min
Miles: 5.03

How is everyone else? Celicia, how's your daughter?

Beth

Ok I am finally of the injured list!! :cool1:
I did 7.96 miles on Monday plus a 45 minute pilates class
I got in 6.42 miles yesterday, but flaked on my jump roping (so i will have to do it on Saturday, which is supposed to be a rest day, oh well)
This morning I was too sore to go to pilates (after taking a week off, no wonder) so I will hopefully go to Thursday's class if my abs will allow it.

Hello everyone. Hope all is going well and that the springtime illnesses are quickly going away. I am still keeping track and still involved.

I hope it isn't too late to post my March numbers...I was going to do that today. I have kept up with them all month, just no time to post. Signed in a couple of times and ended up leaving before I could post.

Happy Health!

Laura

Laura: Nice to have you back. :thumbsup2
Beth: Glad you are on the mend...and happy once again!! :goodvibes
Cecilia: Worried we have not heard from you. PD that your DDs fever is better. Let us know... :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
Carla: Nice to see you are back out there. Don't over do, we need you here!!!
Angie: It totally depends on your shoes. I get 200-300 on mine. My Saucony's are lasting a little better than the Nikes ever did. The rock feeling in front of your heel is (gulp) a plantar fasciits symptom. I had PF before the half, still working around it a lot. Take care and pay attention. It hurts and will take you out of racing for awhile. :headache:

My house is clean(ish) I don't think with kids your house is ever truly "clean". My laundry is well on the way. I have thought about packing. I have put the important things in, i.e. my running clothes, marathon belt, supplements but nothing else resembling clothes. Tomorrow is going to be warm in the 50s and sunny again for my run, XT Friday, 20 minute run on Saturday and then heading down to NH. I am getting really excited and can't wait to see everyone again!!! Expo Saturday afternoon and dinner, sleep, breakfast and ding, ding, ding, it is race time!!!! :dance3:

Hi Everyone -

I am starting to feel better. Although I am a little panicked that the cold is moving to my chest. Its too soon to tell, but my chest is feeling slightly congested. I am completely paranoid so it could be imagination.

dd's fever finally dropped to a managable level (102) early this morning. So I got about 4 hours of sleep. The Dr wanted to see her today just as a precaution. Lucky us, Drs wouldn't let her sit in the waiting room - straight to an exam room. Verdict: Its a virus and it has to run its course. All we can do is manage the fever.

By the way, this kid has had LOTS of high fevers. It was terrifying the first time. Ok, its always pretty nerve wracking. But this is just how her body fights infection. They told us she'd out grow it when she was a baby. She'll be 12 soon and they aren't saying that anymore.

The fever is back up this evening, but that is not unusual for it to spike at the end of the day. I just gave her tylenol and am waiting to see if the tylenol/motrin combo is going to zap it.

By the way - We have our AIR CONDITIONER on! (Sorry, I had to brag.)

I am going to try to run tomorrow if her fever is down.

Cecilia

Angie -

Umm, don't shrug off those symptoms! There are some great stretches that can help and prevent Plantar Fascitis. Take the time to look them up and start doing them just to make sure that is not what is going on with you. My running partner has had this but as long as she stretches she is fine.

Cecilia

Hi everyone,

60 minutes total for me today.

35 minutes for c25k, w7w2, distance was 2.3 miles. I felt really good running this.

The remainder of my time was strength training/exercising.

Have a great evening!

Tuesday 4/1
3 miles - 25:31 of running
1 miles - 65 minutes hiking with Zachary in the woods

I accidently posted this on the March page, so I re-posted it here. ºoº

Good morning Super Goofs!

I am glad to see that everyone is on the mend and starting back into routines. Cecilia, sooo happy for DD. That must be so frightening even today. My DS tends to spike high fevers but they are pretty manageable. Have you researched anything homeopathic to try? I know there are acupressure points but the only ones I can remember are pinching the earlobes and the release at the back of the neck.

Today is 30 minutes or 3 miles, probably whichever comes first. It is sunny already, slight breeze (compared to yesterday a hurricane would be a slight breeze, lol) and temps are supposed to be in the 50s. Same weather as predicted for Sunday, yay :woohoo: . My SIL came down with this virus yesterday but got the fast and furious version with the vomiting and diarrhea. Lucky her?? :confused3 Today she is over it and ready to race again. Lucky me... Actually, I am looking forward to it. I predict catching everyone by mile 4 but I am shooting for the first water stop at mile 3. Just listen for the heavy breathing coming up behind you!!!

I am so excited for you guys! Lisa - I wish I could join you as you race to catch everyone! I think that would be so much fun. I hope the rest of you give her a good chase! I can't wait to read all about it and to see the pictures (ahem, ahem)

DD is doing much better today. We are going by the school to pick up her books and assignments but they won't let her return to school today. This means no school until the 15th because spring break starts tomorrow.

I am going to run at least 4 today - hopefully 6 but we will see how I am feeling. I really need new shoes but I am too lazy to go to the store and get them.

You guys are doing great!

Our number look great and just wait until I start training for MCM/Goofy in June!

Cecilia
