Super Goofs are HOT, HOT, HOT in August

Hi Goofs!

I'll write a long race report at some point (though I'll be without computer for a few days, so it might be a week from now). The good - I wasn't one of the fuor runners who left via ambulance. The bad - heat index of 105.

I didn't even manage a marathon distance, since I had massive cramps on the lap which would have given me 26.2. (Actually, it would have been 26.32, but same thing.) Pretty much every muscle from hip to ankle seized at once, and that was the end of my day.

There's always next year, right?

(And, I suppose the good news is that I did manage to run on Sunday and yesterday, so the running streak continues unabated.)

Hey Goofs! Just checking in...I've been consistently following my training plan for the San Antonio RnR half...

I get depressed sometimes reading about all the WISHers training for the WDW Marathon Weekend...since moving to Oklahoma, it's not really a possibility for us to attend Marathon weekend for at least the next couple of years. My DH and I grew up in South Florida, so we usually head down that way during the holidays...it's always a week at Disney followed by 4-5 days with family during Christmas, which I love...we just can't afford the back to back trips to Disney, so we've had to cut out any possibility of a trek to the World in January.

Soooo...I've done the next best thing and added on additional Disney days at the beginning of our December trip...we're confirmed for a 4 day DCL trip this December (our first cruise ever) and have already put down a deposit for the same dates next December...which just so happens to be the same dates as the DISunplugged Podcast 2.0 cruise.

I'm so excited :woohoo: Two cruises to plan for!!!

I better get to running...got a few pounds I'd like to lose ;)

Mike...looked at the pics...I didn't see the fat guy on a red bike :rolleyes1...I did see a serious triathlete looking like he meant business...great pics!

Steve Sorry about your knee. My knowledge of knee pain is strictly limited to ITB syndrome--which isn't really a knee problem even.

Rich Yikes! I hope you've fully recovered from your race. Sounds like a great effort in tough conditions.

Mike Great looking pics of you...but where's the fat guy?:)

Shannon Glad your training is going well. Cruise could be fun...I've never done one before either. Some day, maybe.

Suzanne Congrats on the weight loss. Like Shan, I would also like to lose 10 lbs, although I'm not really committed to that quite yet.

Did some XT today, nothing too exciting to report. Have an after work outing tonight at the zoo, plus the Woodward Dream Cruise is ramping up. Will need to visit our favorite soft serve place and watch some cars go by.

Ran 3 miles again this morning doing a R3/W1. Pace was very slow, but gosh I like being back out there. Shin once again did fine, but I had to put my knee brace back on for my run. I'm starting to wonder if I should just stick with a R/W from now on. It seems like I'm injury prone? Every time I train for a race I injure myself. Regardless, I'm glad to be back out there! :thumbsup2

I booked POP for 2 nights for the TOT 13K! We're out of DVC points and I wanted POFQ, but it was full. I got an awesome AP rate, though - $155! So, looks like DH and I are in for the race. I'm gonna hold off a bit to register just to see how my shin and knee do... It will be a quick trip, but I figure we'll still be able to squeeze in F&W and possibly MNSSHP if we can get down there in time on Friday.

Steve, good luck on your half, hope your knee feels better!
Rich, sorry about the heat! OMG!

Going to get a pedicure. I could use a good leg massage. Time to give myself a treat since the girls are back in school.

Hugs!

Shan: I know you're happy to be getting back out there...take it slow...sending good vibes your way :goodvibes

As for me, I can't get to sleep tonight...this deployment is dragging...28 days until I get to see DH and kids :woohoo:

Today was a crosstrain day...walked 5.5 miles. Have a 3 mile run on tap for tomorrow morning...I guess I better try to get some zzz's.

Hope you got some sleep Shannon.

Today I ran 3 miles again, doing a R3/W1. All my old injuries acted up. I don't want to give up! Even though my shoes aren't quite what I consider done, I think it best I look for new shoes. I just don't understand how I can be back to running just one week after taking a month off and still have problems. So I'm telling myself it must be the shoes. :lmao: So next week I'll go try some new styles. Wish me luck!

Have a nice weekend everyone! :grouphug:

Hi Goofs!

I am still here, just reeling from the change in activity levels. We literally went from a week of complete down time (quaranteed until we knew we didn't have the flu) to two straight weeks of 3 and 4 activities everyday.

I am so proud that my training hasn't suffered with the busyiness (sp?). I still need to add another day of running in but I am going to add it in next week and then build on it every other week when my long runs are lower.

Also, for those wanting to lose weight, I have lost 8 pounds. I started a nutrition supplement program last fall and this summer I added a fiber supplement as well. I haven't changed anything else. I have a shake before breakfast, one after a run, and one before dinner. The manufacturer does not make any claims that it will help you lose weight and actually has another product designed for weight loss. It does make me wonder if I was eating more than I realized.

Got in 45 minute swim yesterday, 1.3 miles. Planning on a cruiser run tonight, 3-5 miles, then a killer tomorrow...

Hope all is great with all the Goofs!

mike

I finally got to sleep around 0200...tried to get up at 0530 to run, but it wasn't happening. I decided instead to run at 1600 (after a pizza party we had for work) in 90 degree, 90% humidity weather...that wasn't a good idea either. I managed a slow 3 miles. Now I remember why I've been running early in the morning...20 degrees cooler and much less humidity:thumbsup2

Shan: Hopefully the shoes correct your pain...I know you must be frustrated. I had a 2 1/2 month bout of IT band syndrome while training for the 2008 marathon...it sucks to be injured...I ultimately had to run the half instead of the full...not being able to train is a bummer :sad2:

Cecilia: Great job finding time to train with your hectic schedule...it's so easy to let LTO...way to fight it!

Mike: Killer work out tomorrow? I'm scared for you :scared1:

Basically an unsupported 1/2 IronMan.

40 minute swim...that'll be 1.2 miles.

6 hour bike...should be closing in on 100 plus miles

2 hour run...11-12 miles planned.

:faint:

Morning Goofs!

We got lost on our long run this morning so we ended up doing 16.5. All the math trying to figure our route out kept us busy until mile 11. Nothing like complex math to keep your mind off the pain! The last 2 miles were miserable but aren't they always when you are building up?

Well, I am off to do more mom stuff.

Have a great weekend all!

Came up short today.

No lifeguard at the pool, so no swim...

100 mile ride (which was good)

6 mile run (instead of 12)...maybe I'm NOT ready

Today was supposed to be a rest day, but I wanted to do something...did a short 2 mi jog.

Mike: Tomorrow is another day!

Mike - WTG on the Tri. Thanks for the pics. I don't know how you do it. :worship: I was a little disappointed to see you didn't wear the sombrero from your avatar during your race. I'll bet you are saving that for the big race, right?

Shannon - Congrats on booking your cruises. You will LOVE them. Be sure to check the Navigators for the Castaway Cay 5K. It's a lot of fun.

Shan - Congrats on booking POP for the TOT 13K. I hope you heal up quickly and get to register soon. Doing the R/W has helped me greatly with my injuries. I'll talk a little more about it below.

Great job on those losing weight. I've been struggling with it the last few months. I keep yo-yo'ing the same five pounds. I'm currently up 3 pounds from my lightest. I really want to lose another ten pounds before the WDW Marathon in January. I need to leave all the extra pounds at home I can!

I ran a small half marathon this morning. There were only 49 runners, mostly members of the running club. The weather couldn't have been more beautiful and was actually a little hot for this area.

I have been taking it easy the last week since my knee has really been bothering me. I wore a knee brace for the first time out there and left my ego at home and forced myself to do a 4R/1W routine. It was hard at first as I felt pretty good but later on when I was fatigued and my knee started hurting, I was glad I did.

I finished 38 out of 49 runners and 4/4 for my age group which doesn't sound very good but most of these people have been running since high school. Despite the R/W and even walking one of the 4-minute segments during a large hill, I finished at 2:05:11 which is 2:18 faster than my half-marathon PR. It's 3:14 faster than the much flatter San Francisco and then I ran nearly the entire time.

I'm pretty excited about my time and the fact that, except for being pretty sleepy right now, my body actually feels pretty good.

G'night y'all!

-steve

Hi Goofs, glad to see everyone here chatting it up!

Mikey, hang in there. You will be fine and you know it somewhere deep down. And I did NOT see a fat man on a bike in ANY of those pictures. I think you look stellar. Bet you haven't heard that before....:goodvibes

Cecilia, lost on a long run, I would have called the pickup service and told them to meet me somewhere. I might have possibly maybe done that before...:rolleyes1

Shan, look at your shoes definitely but maybe try some stretching too. Those muscles have memory but not the stretch that we all used to have...

Everyone else, :flower3:

As for me, I have updated the sheet with my minimal miles. I am getting back to a semi-regular pattern of running and lifting. I have made a LR of 3.5 miles so far (whoopie I know) but I am trying to stay reasonable and pick up my speed as much as possible. My goal has been to stay around 10 mpm and it has been working even with adding the miles in. I have also been getting out for a 2 mile walk during my lunch break just for some fresh air and a recharge. I do feel better and my weight is getting back to normal for me. Not losing but just maintaining. I am shooting for 5 miles today but with our high heat and humidity I may have to call for that pickup service...:sad2:

In other news, Lynnielou is going to be put on injured reserve for awhile. She needs a little time off for personal reasons.

Hang in there everyone!!:cheer2:

Hi guys,

Ran 9 miles this morning before the real heat set in--I could use a nap right now! Things are going reasonably well. SOme minor aches and pains, but who doesn;t have those, right?

Mike WTG on the century. I am confident you will do well at your race. Can we follow along in real time?--I mean, after all, we've listened to you kvetch about the training--shouldn't we get to enjoy the action?;)

Shannon Hope you find the cause of your recent nagging injuries.

Cecilia Yeah for you that you managed all those extra miles. Sometimes at the end of my long runs I think that if I had to go one more step, I would fall over!

Shannon Great job getting out there, especially with the awful heat and humidity--just stay hydrated!

Steve WooHoo! A PR for you--great job! and even better that you feel good afterwards.

Lisa Hope your 5 goes well. Glad to hear you're keeping up your pace.

Time to go have a rest, maybe......

Maura

Hey Goofs,

Did my 5K yesterday morning and it kicked my butt. I haven't done any real training all summer and I'm feeling it today. But, thats a good thing! Looking for another 5K for September, have 2 or 3 to choose from so I need to decide. Off to work soon as today starts "free dining" and we are expected to be really busy. Hope everyone had a great weekend!!
