Super Goofs are HOT, HOT, HOT in August

my bib number when I get it; I think there is a way to get text updates as the timing mats are crossed...I'll let you know.

5 miler today...had to run later in the morning due to work conflicts...boy did we pay for it...I felt like I was cooking from the inside out. 3 miles on tap for tomorrow.

Steve: congrats on your PR :woohoo: I'll have to look into the Castaway Cay 5K...hadn't heard of it...do you know if it's something you sign up for ahead of time?

No you don't have to sign up for it and best of all, it's free. If they do it, it will be listed in your Navigator you receive in your room the night before Castaway Cay. It either starts as soon as you get off the ship or I've also heard of it starting 30 minutes earlier. You basically just meet right off the ship and the CM who is leading the run takes your info so s/he can get you a finisher's Magical Moments certificate to be left in your cabin later that night.

It's not a competitive race by any means. It's not timed or anything and at least at first, you can't pass the CM as s/he is trying to get you safely around the crowds until you get to a more rural area. From there, you can go at your own pace. I believe there are two water stops along the way.

It's a great way to start the day and makes all the great food on the island that much more guilt free! Be sure you try the chocolate chip cookie dough soft serve!

Sounds great Steve...I'll definitely have to check that out...hopefully they have it going on during my cruise.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough soft serve sounds amazing...I can't wait!

Ran 3 miles this morning goofs...got out just after sunrise...the weather was almost perfect...I say almost because there was a huge headwind and it felt like we were running into a wall

Shan: Did you get the new shoes? You didn't mention any pain...did your run this morning feel better?

Thanks for asking Shannon! :goodvibes

Nope, haven't gotten over to my running store yet. I didn't run this weekend. Shin was a tad sore this morning, but I ran thru it. :rolleyes1 Not as bad as Friday. I came home and iced. :thumbsup2

Hey Goofs - back from GenCon. I'll update my miles later today or tomorrow, but this last week (post ultra) has been chock-full of 2-3 miles a day. Nothing hard, nothing fast. I'm thinking that following an ultra with a week of almost no sleep might not be the brightest of things I have done, but it was a fun vacation.

today I ran/walked 4.75 miles, it was 92 degrees, humidity 75%, all sun, no shady areas...it was like a sauna!!!! I sweat off almost 6 pounds, nice scale day! but have been drinking pretty much non-stop since I finished...

hope everyone else had cooler temps!!

Hey Goofs,

Just 4 for me today--4 x 1000, but I'm not sure I ran the right pace. Oh well. And yeseterday I had a nice trip and fall while out walking the dog (answering the phone...and I thought driving while talking was the real danger!) and did a face plant on the sidewalk. Nice scrapes on my chin and a few other places. Fortunately no major damage, although a little sore inspots today.

Stay cool, all.

Maura

Howdy, Goofs! Long time, no post, but I have been lurking here and updating the spreadsheet pretty religiously. We're trying to settle into the new family routine now that school has started, but with DH's tri training going on, it's a vastly different routine than it was last year at this time, when I was the only one with workouts to fit into our schedule. (Now you know why I had a whopping 1-mile run on Monday!)

Maura, sorry to hear about your face plant. I hope there were no eye witnesses. Did you come up with a better story to tell instead of the truth? Something like: "You should see the other guy"?

Wow, Angie. 6 pounds? I know it's not considered a good thing to lose that much during a run, but how pretty it must have looked on the scale! I always come back from a long run and weigh myself and then see that I've gained(!) weight. I try so hard to put a positive spin on it (as in, "I must have done a GREAT job taking in fluids"), but deep down I really do wish I'd lost at least an ounce or two to show that all that effort was doing something in the "battle of the bulge."

Rich, :cheer2: for keeping up the running streak! :worship:

Shan, I hear you on the shin pain. I had a really cruddy run tonight due to shin issues. Hoping new shoes will help you and that my replacement orthotics, which are now finally showing as "in transit," will help me.

Shannon, I'm so jealous of your cruises!

Mike, looking forward to tracking you on the big day!

Suzanne, hooray for another 5K under your belt. Wishing you a great race season this year!

Maura, did you ever take your nap? I'm on :cloud9: when I get to nap after my LRs on Saturdays.

Lisa, I'm so glad you've been consistent with under 10-minute miles when you run. I'm trying to jump that hurdle myself, so it's been great to watch your progress. It's frustrating because I *can* do the pace (at least, I can do it on a good day), but my brain still doesn't think I can. I only rarely set the TM to 6 MPH because I think of it as "too fast." Then whenever I run outside with my Garmin and glance at my pace and see it's in the single digits, I tell myself I'd better put on the brakes. How silly is that? If I couldn't run at that pace, I wouldn't be running at that pace, right? :confused3 I never thought a weekend warrior like myself would be in such desperate need of a sports psychologist! :upsidedow Did you ever experience similar thought processes as you were working on your speed?

Steve, awesome job on your PR! You were almost an hour faster than my WDW half!

Cecilia, welcome back -- both from your cruise and from the unexpected detour during your long run. And congrats on the weight loss!

Good evening Goofs
Well, as of today (Wed, Aug 19th) - I am a streaker. Today was run number 365 in a row. Tomorrow I start on the second year.

I'm still catching up on everyones posts, but I see some good PRs, some strong training, and some great runs in the books. Way to go Goofs!

Kim Alas, the truth won out on the trip/fall story--oh, well. And noone saw--or if they did they didn't bother to ask if I was okay! And 1 mile is still better than none.

Rich:worship: Incredibly impressive--mentally as much as physically. I am impressed that you still like to run--you must really love it.

As for me, I had a good tempo run today. 4 miles at just over 8 mpm. I left the gym feeling positive, but also wondering "If I wasn't training for something, would I still be running?" I don't have an answer--just something to ponder.

Hope alll the other goofs are doing well.

Maura

lately, probably not the best for training purposes, but mentally very helpful.

I did two long open water swims this week, one 1800 yards, the other 2800 (did that in just under an hour, including rest/float time)...so maybe the Ironman won't drown me!

I'll update the miles/times later...last day of Michigan vacation today :sad2:

Did a R3/W1 this morning for 4 miles. Still haven't been out to get new shoes and shin still hurts, but not as bad as before.

Kim, please let me know how your orthotics do with your shin issues.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Taking the girls to Jonas Brothers tomorrow night!

Hey Goofs! 5 mi for me today (R4/W1). Rest day tomorrow.

Steve: Where did you get the cool WISH/Goofs banner that you have on your signature? I've been trying to figure it out with no luck and can't find a thread with them anywhere on the boards.:confused3

Oh yeah...I forgot to mention...I officially signed up for the RnR San Antonio Half Marathon in November. I've been training, but it's nice to know that the training has not been in vain.

"Train in Vain"....a very good Clash song. But that's NOT what we're all doing, right!

Hello, Goofs. Just back from what was supposed to be a 10 mile run. Missed a turn and ended up who knows where on what I though was a cul de sac...decided to cut through someone's yard to an adjacent street and head back (yes, I could have just turned around on the one I was on, but mentally-not gonna do that.) Finally turned and turned and ended up back where I was expecting to be. So ended up doing 11. But, hey, I got them done!

Gotta look at my training plan and figure out my switch over to the marathon plan. Thinking of adding in the Detroit Free Press half marathon--you get to run to Canada and back via bridge and tunnel.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weeked. Barely into the 70's here.

Maura

Maura you're right...training is never really in vain...it was a poor choice of words. I'm just the type of person that finds it hard to stay motivated unless I have a race I have to train for, so I'm happy that my RnRSA Half Marathon plan is official now :)

Shannon Not a poor choice of word--I was just riffing on the CLash song (I heard it on the radio on Friday and was singing out loud in the car--yeas, I'm one of those!)

I also understand about needing something to train for. I'm the same way.

Maura
