Super Goofs are HOT, HOT, HOT in August

quick update on me...

I ran the 5K Balloon Rally on Sunday, I had a PR AND placed 3rd in my age group!!! I owe it all to one of the coaches that was at the clinic I went to two weeks ago, he saw me there and came out on the course to meet me, and talked me through it, I ran longer than ever before, I LOVE this guy!! I'll have to do something nice for him...any ideas? I got a medal for 3rd, plus I won a raffle (fleece vest, dont really need it in August, but it will be nice to have in a few months!) AND also got introduced to a CEO of a company that "might" be looking to hire (he told me to send him my resume!)

So great start to the day, then went to the Cape for a few days, bought my DD a scratch ticket for fun when we got there, and she won $100!

Got in a 4 mile run on the Cape, nice change of pace. Back home now, time to catch up on some sleep!!

Doesn't sound like we have too many injuries (yay!) so keep on running!

Just VERY cranky and snarky, and down right PO'd at work...which has been bleeding over into other areas of life, and I didn't want to just come puke on the Goofs.

I'm alive, but lately I either express myself through silence or rage...no in betweens.

The bear is going back in the cave now...

Oh, go ahead and vent your spleen. After all, if you can't vent in a semi-anonymous fashion to a bunch of random people whom you may never meet in person, then what good is the internet anyway? ;)

Hey, as someone who considers snark to be more than a mood and more of a lifestyle choice for herself, :rotfl2: I give you full permission to express yourself in your full range of silent rage and raging silence. I know the Goofs are there to listen and be unloaded on. And I am too!

And I miss talking to all of my Goofy buds! :goodvibes

LOL....thanks, I needed that one!

Maura - I may well be howling in pain that night, does that count?

Angie - age group award, a PR and a raffle prize? That's a great race! And the DDs winning ticket and your new contact are great too!

Right now, the weather for Saturday look to be a low in the mid-70s, and a high in the mid 90s. They've started revising it back down, but it looks like I won't be so lucky as the runners last year (low of 57, high of 82).

Edit - 3.1 today, and 3 last night. Trying to take it easy and not go fast, but it's hard, since I know that I won't be able to run fast for several weeks after this.

Took a run break yesterday--my right calf is acting up and I really want to have a good long run this weekend, so I stuck to XT yesterday and today. Stepper, bike, pool.

Hope everyone is hanging in there. Have a great weekend, Goofs!

Happy belated birthday, Suzanne!

Beth, sorry to hear about the jerks who didn't want you on "their" road. Didn't you realize they owned it? ;) As they used to say on Hill Street Blues, "Be careful out there."

As for me, I finished my 11-mile run this morning and am now trying to wrap my head around the fact that the DL Half is a mere 4 weeks from tomorrow. :scared1: I'm not as nervous about it as I was for WDW because I know I should be able to cover the distance, having done it once before, but I'm definitely not as well trained as I was going into the WDW half. Training over the summer is MUCH harder than training in the fall and winter.

I am so sorry you feel this way.
Anne of Green Gables said it best- tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it.

Morning everyone! Yeah, it's me stop pointing!

Mike, snark away, rage away, just don't do it in silence. We are all here for you to get it out!

Joanne, you too. Don't feel alone in anything. Ever.

Liz and Patrick, hope you are having some fun in the House of Mouse!

Everyone else, Miss you all.

As for me, I got in a few really good runs this week and one dog bite and lots of hay bales. I am able to maintain a 9:49ish pace right now which is not bad for someone who has not run in awhile. Today I hope to venture out of the 3 mile range and try for 5-6 miles just to see if I can still do it. Of course, I know me and I may stretch that out to 8-9...:rolleyes1 It feels good to be back on the road again. The coming weeks should bring more calm to my life. They have authorized the purchase of our new software product and started packing the office for the big move. Not that we know where we are going or anything. I told them I could just go home and work, no problem. I got this from the manager and other leads...

Hoping to be back on regularly soon!

Good Morning everyone- Guess what.... my DH bought me the bike! I think it was because he was tried of me moping around feeling sorry for myself being unemployed and horseless for the moment. My mom got GG#3 a tag a long bike for her birthday and I can't wait to get out on the bike path today. My parents are coming up to join us on a long ride! What a difference a correctly fitted bike makes! I went for a quick run after work then a long bike ride. Perhaps a tri is in my future if I can get out of the swimming part!

Today is bodypump and fitness yoga then the bike ride (and search for my dream job)

I signed up for the active daily trainer with the MCM. I usually don't read what is being sent unless it says- rest day (my favorite so I don't feel guilty when I do a 3 miler). Yesterday it told my that a 23 mile run was on tap! Yikes! Race day is end of October! I am no way even close to that- in all honesty I am not even going to try for that in preparation for race day!

Hi Goofs....

Just back from an 8 miler in humid, Michigan---feels like Florida in August! Run went well--my whole goal for long runs these days is to finish them feeling good. So no watch, no pace, no nothing. And it works. I always let my breathing be my guide (Sung to the tune of "Give a little whistle"). Anyway, at about mile 7 I looked down onthe pavement and saw my favorite tar/grease spot....3 circles shaped just like a hidden Mickey! Smile and move on.

Hope everyone has a great day. Joanne Congrats on the new bike. Lisa Glad to hear your running is going well. Enjoy!

Hey Goofs,

Been on the treadmill for over a week now and feeling good. Pulled something in my right leg on Friday night so took it easy last night but still got on for 30 mins. Thats something, right?!! Signed up for a 5K this Saturday gearing up for a busy fall racing season! Hope everyone is great!!!

What a GREAT day I had!

I started with a one hour body pump class- I usually try to arrive a little early to secure a place in the back but I ended up being really late (for me). My anxiety was okay and I did get a spot in the back. I cranked up the weights and I felt great. After the class was a 75 minute fitness yoga. I wish I could take yoga every day. I feel so amazing after.

I was in the after exercise glow and my parents came up for a bike ride. I took both of them- my dad has alzheimers, my two daughters, two of their cousins- 8 and 10. I got to try out the new bike- yeah! I attached the tag a long and away we went! All together we did 16 miles- not to bad with a motley crew. The girls sang girl scout camp songs at the top of their lungs- really brought a smile to our fellow riders. Stopped for ice cream and over all had a great time with no complaining.

I had an impromtu cookout after- don't ask a vegetarian to cook burgers- not good! No one else wanted tofu dogs. I think they taste pretty good but no one to try them. Farm stand had amazing corn. I have three top notch farm stands in my town- amazing fresh and local produce- I stop every day for fruit and corn. Everyone enjoyed the corn- christine was the corn of the day- yummy. Plus fresh peaches, nectarines, and almost the last of the shiro plums- my kids eat those like candy.

I am going to bed- dishes are not washed and I don't feel guilty.

Poor DH. He has been working so hard on my chicken coop and run. I think I am going to change the name of my happy hen house to "Hen Pecked". If you ask an engineer to do something you know it will be grand! I am so proud of him and it looks amazing. We got 17 day old chicks from mail order. The kids named one of the Lucky. Guess what- Lucky seems to be a rooster! I guess the name fits. Anyone want a free rooster- he is very friendly!. We also got a broiler by mistake- her name is KFC and she is my favorite. She is HUGE and really not meant to live long but she will live out her days with us and hopefully lay an egg or two.

I guess am am posting long to make up for lost time!

Joanne

Hi goofs.

Met my partner for what I thought would be an easy 10- 12 miler but we took a new route and ended up with almost 14. I was more than a little grumpy those last two miles!

Busy weekend. My daughter tried out for a new softball team and they had brutal tryouts. But to be fair, they had 41 girls for 3 spots and almost all the girls were good. I wouldn't want to be the one making that decision.

It was tough enough to sit in the heat (over 95 both days) much less play at that level. I was so proud of my daughter though, she had a great try out.

Stay cool and keep on running!
Cecilia

Girls back in school this morning and I'm back out running. Ran 3 miles this morning after a month long running hiatus. Shin seemed to do OK! I took it easy and did a R3/W1. My motivation wasn't there this morning, but I must say I'm glad I did it! Hugs my fellow Goofs! :grouphug:

Shan, kids are back to school already? My DD goes back in two weeks. This summer has gone way too fast.

Weighed in this morning, lost 3 lbs! I guess all my late night treadmilling is showing results! 7-10 more to go before Race for the Taste. I can do it!!!

Congrats Suzanne! :woohoo:
I'm right there with ya - I need to lose about 10 pounds now. I gained it all this past year. I eat when I'm stressed. Bad, bad, bad... :lmao:
Ya, they went back today. They get out really early, though - May 21st!

Hey Goofs, I'm still around too but just haven't been online much. I have been spending a lot of time at home catching up with work to help relieve the stress and trying to get to bed early as the 4-5 hours I've been getting each night just aren't cutting it!

I feel a lot better stress and sleep-wise but my knee is killing me. I could definitely use some advise. I don't know if it is runner's knee or not but the description sure sounds similar.

It started hurting for the first time midway through my half marathon two weeks ago. It felt fine when I woke up the next morning. I had a few runs between then and now but I just ran six miles on Saturday and my knee started hurting again shortly after and hasn't felt better. I've stayed off of it but it still really hurts when I have to climb stairs or walk up or downhill.

I've already seen a hand and foot specialist and wear orthotics now which has tremendously helped back problems I was having.

I had been doing a lof of Wii's EA Active which had me doing a lot of lunges and squats. I stopped those as well until I feel better but I don't know if that contributed to the problem

I'm pretty nervous as I have another half marathon this weekend. I'd hate to skip it but I don't want to make anything worse.

On a good note, I finally cleaned up our old bikes and took mine for a spin the other day. I had a great time and look forward to doing a lot more riding. I couldn't get the brakes right and it was wobbling a little (maybe it was just me?) so I took it in for a tune up. It's been in storage for nearly 10 years so I'm sure it won't hurt.

We found a great deal on airfare for the WDW Marathon so we just booked it. It's a long drive but we will save over $1000 by driving and spending the night at a hotel offering Park & Fly. We can save a bundle by leaving our car there and they will shuttle us to the airport. :cool1:

Have a great week everyone!

-steve
