Super Goofs 2012

Got my new trail shoes today from Amazon.....Brooks Trailblade. I have scoped out a little trail race series I could do. NOw I just need to go find some trails to go run on!

Still waiting for my hip flexor to heal, so I got in a quick swim, and did part of the "Iron Strength" workout that's on RUnner's World. But only part....I am more like lead (both very soft and very heavy) than iron, so I only did part of it with way fewer reps.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Maura
Did my first trail run this weekend. There is a local park that has 20 miles of backpacking trails through it on pretty moderate terrain. I am training with a buddy for the Medoc trail marathon this year. It looks like a lot of fun. Its a tough race but sounds like a lot of fun. I'm hoping that the rapid elevation changes when running trails will help me build up leg strength to make faster.

Whew, I feel like a slacker compared to you all!! I did some yoga and started P90x2 this weekend but still no running secondary to my :sad2: calf. Working on it though.

DD had softball on Sunday and DS had basketball on Saturday. That kills the weekend pretty quickly.

Just a quick stop off for me today, I have a lab test tomorrow and a 3 chapter exam on Thursday so I need to hit the books.

Have a super day everyone!!

I It drives me nuts when I hear the other moms complaining that they have no time to do these things and they sit for 3 hours! I end up healthier and with a lovely hand knit sweater!

I understand! I used to sit through 3 hr Gymnastic practices with my son 5 days a week and always found something to work on. You have to make time within other activities!

SAHDAD: You are an inspiration! Making me feel like such a slug, I'm going to try and get a few miles in this afternoon if possible.

Still no running for me. Can't seem to shake my hip/flexor/whatever. So I'm riding (indoors), swimming and doing yoga. Groan. Was planning to do a 5k this Sunday, but at this point won't risk it.

Still no word back from the NY marathon people about my entry. I am still within their "3 wk window" to verify, so I can't complain. But I am wondering if I submitted the registration correctly.

It is a glorious 53F here already! Hopefully the other shoe won't drop in February.

Checking in.

Maura - hope your hip is better. Annoying when you can't seem to get something to work right.

We did Warrior Dash two years ago. It was a blast!! My son, his girlfriend and a couple other friends are doing it this year.

Weather has been weird but so much better than last winter. Hoping to ride outside on Sunday.

The rest of the plan is, well, going. I need to kick it into full gear but this week has been crazy with month end. Yeah, excuses excuses. I know. Have to get my endurance up if I have any hope of keeping up with Lisa skiing next month. (who am I kidding...it'll be my first time on cross country skis....there is NO WAY I'll keep up :rotfl: )

Quick check in. Did half-mile repeats yesterday - forgot how much I hated them. Did a fairly quick and easy 5k this morning, followed by the kettlebell class. All I really want now is a nap.

I did sign for one marathon this spring, and I am trying to see if I can fit another one in too. No ultras on tap until fall, however - I just can't find the time to swing one.

Liz Don't worry about the skiing.....there probably won't be any snow to ski on, with the winter we've been having.

Rich I actually like my speedwork. It gives me a real feeling of accomplishment to survive whatever particular form of torture my plan calls for that week! What marathon did you sign up for?

So I figured I'd take a couple of days off....yeah, it's not really helping. Stupid. Will resum normal programming on Monday, regardless.

Oh, I can appreciate speedwork after the fact. But on that last 800, when I feel like puking and I really want to quit, then I don't like them all that much. :rotfl:

I signed up for the Illinois marathon again. It's the fourth one, and I did the other three, so it's becoming kind of a staple spring race. I was hoping to run Kalamazoo the week after that (b/c I did both races a week apart last year), but we have a friend getting married the day before Kalamazoo, and it's not a local wedding.

That's cool! MotoMiker and I are going to be there also, running both the 5K and the Half Marathon. WISHers of the world, Unite! :thumbsup2

I'll be doing the 5k as well - it wasn't much more $, but it was extra bling. And it is not as though I don't generally go for a run once I get down there anyway - a quick 3-4 miles helps shake the dead feeling out of my legs after a long car drive.

Patrick and I are doing the Illinois half as well. He's perfect on them too. I missed last year due to injury. I PRd there two years ago and training to try again this year.

The 5K is Friday right? We don't usually get in until around 7pm.

I didn't realize there were so many Illinoisans on this thread! We just moved from the Chicago area to Atlanta in October, otherwise I would be tempted to join everyone!

Completed a 12 mile long run yesterday. That's the longest I've gone since June. I don't know what my problem is, but my long runs lately have been taxing. Yesterday I felt like I was running into the wind no matter what direction I turned. I was sluggish from the get-go and the last couple of miles were a real test of will. I'm hoping that this subsides for race day, but I think the mental part is wearing me down a bit. Only 3 more weeks to get it together!

Signed me and DH up for the Boston Run to Remember- 1/2 marathon in the end of May

Yeah, it's 6:45 or something Friday night. Running it means that I won't do the pasta dinner though - IIRC, they have a couple times before the race (and loading up on pasta and then running a 5k seems like a Bad Idea), and the pasta feed is 7:15 or so, which means a fast 5k, and then eating while still in my running gear, which I think is banned by the Geneva Convention, under the section about chemical warfare.

@Nicky - I am currently in Michigan, but I graduated from UIUC, so it's good to get down and run around my old stomping grounds once a year or so.

JoanneI hadn't heard of the Run to Remember. I like the course layout. Goes by my old school (MIT) and Mem Drive does have such a nice view. I'm going to pass this on to my daughter. She just graduated MIT---she might be interested--although she might think the course is a bore!

Hey there Goofs!! Sounds like everyone is signing up for lots of spring races that's great!! I have a few on tap myself, including the NJ Marathon which I am running for Juvenile Diabetes. The cool thing is we have a coach who sends us workouts and checks in on us several days a week. I will say that it has surely motivated me to get my workouts done so I can give him an update! he has had us doing speed work once a week, which has already helped my pace.

Today I did a 5 mile run at an 11:30 pace which is must faster than I mnormally go and I didnt feel that tired either!

We also just signed up for a Spartan race...yikes!!! It isn't until June but the obstacles scare me already...lol

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Rich- I also went to U of I! I didn't end up graduating from there, sadly, but I loved that campus.
