Super dry skin...what do you use?

Sounds to me like you need to see a dermatologist.

I do use a cream called Rexeme that works wonders for dry skin though.

Eucerin was like a miracle drug for my daughter's eczema!

If you can handle a bath, try soaking in not too hot water for a while then adding bath oil or baby oil to the water after you've been in there a while.

My pediatrician suggested this for my kids and it does help.

I use Avon's skin so soft soft & sensual (pink) bath oil.

I have really dry skin cause by autoimmune diseases. I have tried EVERYTHING from to most expensive department stores, Arbonne, Body Shop, Bliss, prescription creams and every lotion & cream in the drugstore. Shea butter feels great going on, but just doesn't last for me. What I've found is that most of the heavy duty creams work well for spots, but don't work when you are dealing with all over dryness.

Much to my surprise, the Oil of Olay Extra Dry Skin Quench Body Lotion, applied morning and night worked. I'm now down to using it mornings only. I've never liked Olay products and cannot stand the smell of this one :crazy2:, but I deal with it because it is working. I do feel the need to add a couple more :crazy2::crazy2::crazy2: for the smell, but the "white flakes" have vanished, there is not one rough or scaly spot anywhere - and the price is right too. I also use Kerasal ointment on my hands and feet every night and Remede Biobright2 Hand Cream during the day - and I drink a lot of water. Good luck.

I use The Body Shop hemp bath oil and spray oil..works for me.

I have been having a similar "itching" problem on my calves (even before the humidity started). I've always had dry skin but it seem so much worse this year even though it doesn't look any different. In the winter, my back and back of my hips will itch like crazy.

I'm a regular user of Vaseline Intesive Care Advance Healing and that *used* to work, but no more. I then had a tube of Aquaphor and I tried that. It did stop the itching but it was so thick and would absorb that I had a hard time with it. I was going to work and getting Aquaphor spots all over everything because my legs were exposed. I think the Aquaphor works great if you have rough spots (eczema) but is not very practical for all-over use.

I then went out and bought some Cetaphil cream in the green tube. It has help an awful lot even though I still get some itching here and there. I love it because it has no smell. I have to agree with the other poster about the Quench lotion. Oh my God, that stuff stinks to high heaven.

I agree with several of the recomendations here, but what I have found works best is changing the soap we use. DD gets horribly dry hands in the winter time. We now only use Cetaphil soap in our bathrooms from Oct thru May. It is a facial soap in a pump dispenser and it has made a HUGE difference. We also use the Mustela baby lip balm on the backs of her hands and that helps too. The Mustella baby lotion is good too but it makes her hands itchy--works good on the rest of her and my boys though. (She is 9 by the way, not baby age.) For myself, I really like the Vaseline one already mentioned. I have tried Eucerin and agree that I cannot stand the greasy feeling.

I love the Cetaphil cream... get it at Costco... (don't remember the price) HUGE "pot" tho and even with my dry skin seems to last a long time.

For my face I just use a Ponds moisturizing cream in a little pot.. get it at Walmart.

thank everyone. I have tried a few of them and haven't found one I really like yet :( vasaline helps but it's so thick... I wouldn't really want it on in the day!
I may change my soap... and try a few of the others people mentioned.

Are you sure you don't have excema?

If you want something more natural try shea butter.

I was on a drug for several months that cures acne. Accutane REALLY dries the skin out and I tried every lotion in existance. My favorite, by far, was and still is Cetaphil. That stuff really does the trick and it's not greasy! For a really nice effect, put it on immediately after you get out of the shower and before you dry off then let yourself air dry. Your skin will be super soft.

I switched soap too. Instead of using hand soap and body soap, I replaced it all with shampoo. Shampoo is much milder than soap. I buy cheap shampoo for in the soap dispensers at all the sinks (I do color coordinate LOL) and I just use my regular shampoo in the shower. My daughter has been using St. Ives shower gel and she really likes that. Shower gels aren't anywhere near as drying as soaps are. I'm a former Dove only user, but Dove is nowhere near as mild as shampoo or shower gel.

My skin is so dry that in the wintertime my hands actually crack and start bleeding. Using the Keri and the shampoo regularly (and I can't skip a single day!) my hands haven't gotten bad the past couple of years.

Keri is VERY greasy feeling (it's the mineral oil). I'm sure that alone would turn a lot of people off, but my skin just soaks it all up and honestly, I've had great results with it. I'm sure there are other products out there that would work for me too, but I really have no desire to try anything else. I figure, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I have terrible dry skin in the winter. When I take my clothes off at the end of the day my black bra, panties and clothing looked like I had sprinkled white powder everywhere. This year I bought some Aveeno Dry Skin Relief Shower Gel (the one for the driest skin!). I use it and then after I've dried off I use the new Quench lotion for Extra Dry Skin. I have very particular skin and hate heavy greasy lotions or bath gels that don't get you too very 'clean', but this ritual has truly helped. I also replaced the usual pump soaps by the sinks with shower gels. They are not as harsh and my hands don't get as dry or look as dry and cracked.
Good Luck!

I have horrible dry skin. My skin looks 'ashy' like someone has sprinkled me with white powder. My elbows crack and bleed and my hands feel like a 100 year old woman. My coworker suggested Vaseline petrolium jelly. I thought she had lost her mind! I was afraid that it would be greasy and icky, but tried it out of desperation. I LOVE it. After getting out of the shower, I pat myself dry, and put just at VERY thin layer on my elbows, legs, and anywhere else that feels dry and itchy. Then I use my regular lotion. My mom touched my elbow the other day and said that it was the first time that my elbows had ever felt normal in all of my life.

Try Bag Balm in the green can. You can find it at most Feed and Seed type stores. My doctor told me about it and I laughed. I finally tried it because I was in so much pain from the skin issues.
Well the doctor was correct on this one. It worked!
I hope that you find something soon as I know how uncomfortable it can be!

i like Vaseline Intensive car but I have found this last week that Johnson Special lotion is awesome!!

What i read was that moisturizing lotions worked in humid areas but that an oil shield was necessary for arid areas (and winter air heat).
So when dd gets out of lukewarm bath, hardly any of a very mild soap, i put on a light coat of Neutogena body oil, light sesame formula. Very light but works great.
I have to wear Eucerin and cotton gloves most winter time nights because of washing hands so frequently.

Eucerin Calming Creme works really well for my daughter's eczema and my itchy legs. Plus, it doesn't seem as greasy as regular Eucerin lotion.

I discover Olay earlier this winter. They now make a moisturizer that you put on while still in the shower. Plut is one and rince it off. My dry skin is gone since I started using it. Don't understand how it works but it does.

Make sure you find the one that says in shower moisturizer.

I have tried a lot of the products listed by prevous posters, and I have to say that plain old Jergen's (Intense Moisture) works the best for me. It doesn't leave my skin oily and it doesn't feel like I am coating my skin. Some Aveeno products work really well, too.
