I'll take that as a compliment, you made me feel very young!

Are you honestly saying this is the first time you've heard comments like that coming from a defense or their coach?

In general, you don't talk about not caring if you get a 15 yrd penalty if it takes a QB (who are very protected anyway) out of the game. It's not a very bright move. It's one thing to say....we're going to hit him hard all day, yada yada, but talking about injuring him was just stupid.

Given his comments, he'll likely bring more attention to himself from the officials and anything even close to being a late (or excessive) hit is going to draw him a penalty.

Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams recently told a Nashville radio station that the Saints plan to rattle Colts quarterback Peyton Manning by hitting him whenever they can, and that the goal is to knock him out of the game.

"This guy's got a great clock in his head," Williams told 104.5 The Zone, via ESPN.com. "The big thing is that he throws the ball so early that we're going to have to do a good job of finding ways to get to him and when we do get to him we're going to have to make sure he gets a couple 'remember me' shots when we get there."

And Williams won't be reeling in his troops for the Super Bowl. Instead, it sounds like he's willing to risk a few 15-yard walk-offs if it means that Manning eventually will be carted off the field.
"When you put too much of that type of worry on a warrior's mind, he doesn't play all out," Williams said. "If it happens, it happens. And the only thing you'd like for me to say is that if it happens you hope he doesn't get back up and play again."

You're doing exactly what the media wants. See the part I bolded? "The only thing you'd like for me to say..." Don't forget to include that in your analysis of the interview.

I don't want to see any of either team's members hurt because of dirty play, but I definitely don't want the game ruled by over-zealous officiating.

Oh, and I loathe to bring up Saban, but did anybody question his tactics when he stated he needed to "affect" the quarterback of Bama's opponents? That's part of the defense's job, or so I thought. Rushing, hurrying, pressuring. Williams just doesn't want the D to be worried about drawing a penalty and playing at less than 100%.

Nobody is questioning legal hits on the quarterback when he still has the ball or just released it, because let's face it, once a defender is in full pursuit, it's hard to let up. I think what people are questioning is late hits, called or not. I know Saints fans don't want to think their players may have been making late hits on Warner or Favre, but there has been a lot of talk about it.

Colts fans are also a little wary of Gregg Williams from when he was with the Redskins. Our last game against them, his defenders bent Peyton into a pretzel right before half time. There was a lot of talk about whether those hits were meant to take Peyton out of the game. Of course, Peyton came back in the second half and torched their defense, so it all worked out fine.

Teams have been trying to hit Peyton all year and that's cool, it's part of the
game. However, when a defensive coordinator tells his players it's okay to take the late hit penalty, that's not cool. That means you couldn't get to the quarterback in time and that's a failure of the defense.

Rex Ryan talked a lot of smack before the game about getting to Peyton, but he never talked about late hits.

Maybe you should look at the quarterback stats for 2009.

1. Kurt Warner
2. Aaron Rodgers
3. Drew Bree's
4. Peyton Manning

Number 1 offense : New Orleans Saints 2009

Sorry but it should have been Drew Bree's that got the MVP award.

But Drew gets no respect or name recognition like Manning does and thats why Manning got MVP, name only. Certainly not for stats.

Okay, MVP is NOT a stat based award. It's about what the player brings to the team. What player in the NFL is more valuable to their team than Peyton? Do you or anyone else believe that we would be a .500 team with Curtis Painter or Jim Sorgi taking the snaps? That's why Peyton got the award, because if he goes out, it all goes down the crapper. Not to mention, he was winning with essentially 2 rookie wide receivers and a rookie running back splitting time with Addai. I think all of that played into the decision.

If it were based solely on stats, I think Chris Johnson should have gotten the award. I really thought Peyton and Drew would split the award. If anything, I think name recognition can hurt because I believe the voters would like to give it to other players. Otherwise, Michael Jordan would have won MVP every year. Okay, different sport, but same philosophy.

Honestly, this can be argued until the cows come home because both players had awesome seasons. I think either one was a reasonable choice, but to say it's based on name recognition, is seriously devaluing Peyton's contribution to his team.

Nobody was more valuable than Manning. Other's may have had better stats (which if that were the criteria Chris Johnson should have won), but as for what they bring to THEIR team nobody is the leader that Manning is. Take Manning away from the Colts and they become the Rams or Lions.

Unlike a biased 'aints fans, the voters knew that Manning was the MVP and he was able to win yet another award.

Poor Drew won't get an MVP in the Super Bowl either......as that generally doesn't go to the losing team.

Colts not indulging Saints in trash
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts are still keeping their mouths shut.

On Tuesday, Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams promised his players would put a couple of "remember-me shots" on four-time league MVP Peyton Manning in next week's Super Bowl. Williams made his comments on WGFX, a Tennessee radio station.


Indy doesn't seem to care, responding the same way it has with other big-talkers this season -- giving them the silent treatment.

Coach Jim Caldwell said the Colts couldn't control what other teams say and that opponents are welcome to use whatever motivational tools they deem necessary.

He said Manning, to his knowledge, had not responded to Williams' comments.

I am here to talk about a football team that has given me 40 years of JOY!!!

When hurricane Katrina came here and the levees broke and flooded the city the Saints gave us so much joy. I work in a hospital here and went through Katrina. When we played the first game after Katrina in the Super dome I cried like a baby. Why? Because it gave my city and state hope that we could pull ourselves out of this mess and get on with life. And we have. You wouldn't understand and thats cool.
