Super Bowl 44 Predictions

One person's ugly, obviously is someone else's idea of "all in good fun". Can you, or anyone really, please tell me why trash talk and ugliness is fun? I don't find it fun or funny. I find it in poor taste and mean-spirited. Kinda like "your momma" jokes. Like your team, love your team, root for your team, but why insult and try to tear down the opponent? Why is that fun?

All the ugliness and trash talk has come from the mean spirited Colts and Vikings fans.:confused3 We're here for the first time and are having fun after all the "stuff" we've been through, kinda sad really.

I lost my father to Katrina and he was a huge Saints fan, in fact his last words to me were about the Saints. He was born and raised in Minnesota. I'd better bow out of this thread now before I say something I will regret. I honestly did not expect this from the people here.

Maybe that's it then. It's all perspective. The ugly I saw was most definitely not a colts fan. I was thinking I may have to use the ignore option which I haven't used in probably 2 yrs. I have no ugly to spread. I love to watch Peyton because I think he is freaking incredible. Earlier I referred to him as a football god - perhaps too strong, but he is amazing and I love any player that is that remarkable. I have a lot of respect for the Saints and I think it is cool that the only two teams that went 12-0 are playing for the title of "best".

Good luck to the all the fans for both teams. I hope it is a fun and exciting game!

PS: I'm so sorry for the loss of your father.

I remember your talking of that on the N.O. thread, so , so sad. :grouphug::sad1:

Back on Oct. 15, 2009 I posted a thread saying New Orleans would be in the Super Bowl. They are.;):cheer2:
I posted on this thread because of the trash talk against New Orleans.
Now I am bowing out and just going to post on the thread I started and on N.O. thread when I can.
SAINTS SUPER BOWL!!!!!
WHO DAT!!!

Boy, tough crowd. Grammar Natzi's and people who don't understand that these men are playing football.

I won't say anything negative about Peyton Manning, he is a hometown boy who is well loved in these parts. The Colts is normally a team I would cheer for if they aren't playing the Saints.

As far as that article... without the questions posed, it is useless. Sure they plan on getting to him since that is the whole point of football. And, since no one else seems to notice, every one of the 32 NFL teams do it. Some just do it better than others. Besides, Brees got plenty of good hits from the Vikings too...

I am happy the Saints made it to the Superbowl. It was a long time coming, but I don't think it could have happened at a better time.

And for those who don't know.... Who Dat has been around for a very very long time, and isn't going anywhere. There is a reason we are called Who Dat Nation and it didn't happen in 2006 either....

chiming in...Peyton is a local boy and sorry - I love him too and have met his father on several occasions. Archie is an iconic Saints quarterback and a beloved person here. But there is something special about our city that i guess others just don't get. *I* lost everything due to Katrina except my daughter. My marriage is also now a casualty of the stress and loss of two businesses we lost because of Katrina. I pray none you EVER experiences the devastation, loss and tragedy on such a large scale as we have. Regardless of who you root for - we love our Saints, and they are a symbol of the power of determination and dedication to excellence.

There is a power in the collective loss that we as a city have felt, and there is a collective joy in the small victories we have experienced together. Seeing a city in complete ruins, not knowing where you are going to live and work, never knowing if you will ever see your dearest friends again.....are beyond words and comprehension. the excitement of seeing your church open again with no carpet, folding chairs and the walls cut out 4' up, seeing your favorite restaurant reopen when it was under 8' of floor water, and seeing the Superdome, once a place of horror and desperation, reopen against all belief and all odds, is truly the most incredible experience ever. And after 43 years of being the "biggest losers", "only team to make it to the Superbowl", "the Aint's", etc, we will not make excuses for the fact that we are excited for our team and for our city to reach the pinnacle of sports.

I am sorry you who are not from here may not have experienced the same love and spirit and comaraderie where you live. However, our city is knitted together by our unique melting pot culture, our incredible food, architecture and hospitality, our common experiences and struggles and our open arms for anyone who comes. We don't know any strangers - just friends we have never met! Just as we have a passion for Disney, so we have the same passion for those wanting to visit our wonderful city. We love to show off the beauty of NO, and invite you to come and experience it. Even if you DO root for the Colts, we still want you to laissez les bons temps roule!

and WHO DAT!! WHO DAT!!!! GEAUX SAINTS!!!!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I've probably been watching football longer than you have been alive.
And I've probably been watching football longer (1950s)than you have been alive. So what? That just makes me very old.

No one paid any attention to us before. It's all new to them, and people love to make bad assumptions.

Great post.

I don't think that some people here can really comprehend how much Peyton is loved in New Orleans too. Of course we want the Saints to win the Superbowl. But I can assure you that the fans do not want Peyton to be injured. A player that maliciously injured Peyton would be persona non grata in New Orleans.

Peyton is very much a local boy. My best friend used to babysit all of the Manning boys. Another friend's son played football at the same high school they went to. Archie and Olivia are very active and are beloved in the community. Peyton (and Eli) are not just some unknown boys who played football in a suburb, and then went on to football glory out of state. People watched them grow up and are very proud of the fine young men they have all turned out to be.

New Orleans is a city of love and joy not hate. I wish I could say that for the rest of the nation.

I lost my father a month ago after living with him in Little Rock for the past decade. It was my New Orleans friends (many of whom I met right here on DIS) that provided so much comfort and caring to me.

Hey now, don't group everyone into the same category. I was never mean spirited and honestly haven't really seen ANYONE on this thread be mean spirited. Its harmless football banter. Good for the Saints for having some awesome fans!

However, the Colts fans aren't known as being some of the classiest in the NFL for no reason...every fan I've met has been super gracious of other fans.

May the best "man" win!

unfortunately that will be us ;) :lmao:

I'm an NFC South man. My team is the Atlanta Falcons, and since they are nowhere near the final dance...I'll still cheer for at least our division when a team represents us in the SuperBowl. So I'll be pulling for the Saints, but looking at the lineups, experience, and QB matchup...I'd have to pick Indy realistically.

So that being said:
Team I WANT to win...Saints
Team I honestly THINK will win...Colts
By a score of 24-17

Well I figured since he was so proud of his Saints he could at least spell the quarterback's name right. Good for you.

Well then since you're pointing out a spelling error, shouldn't you have an apostrophe after toddlers? It should read toddler's mom. Just saying.

:thumbsup2 Way to go

When I made this account I didn't realize I could use punctuation marks in a username since most other boards don't allow you to.

Give me a break. No reason for you or the other poster to take it so seriously. I originally made fun of myself when I corrected the spelling of Brees' name. I normally don't point out spelling errors or grammar errors, because hey, it's the internet and who truly cares. It was just bothering me that there was an apostrophe added! Lord know I forget or overuse commas, etc. Some people take things way too seriously sometimes.

I'll say it again.

New Orleans is a city of love and joy not hate.

We did not trash the city after winning the championship. Win or lose we will not trash the city after the Superbowl.

I was in New Orleans after the Rodney King incident in California. While riots were going on all over the country, I remember being totally safe in New Orleans. All weekend I was primarily surrounded by blacks - often with strangers holding my hands and singing songs of love and reconciliation. I lived in California at the time, and I remember being a little afraid to go home.

I have no idea if the Colt fans are haters or not. A little testy on this thread, but no one really sounds like a hater. Now the Cowboy fans - they hate any team that has ever beaten them in a playoff game.

I lived in Dallas (and was a Cowboy fan in the Landry days) for many years. I remember they hated the Redskins, hated the 49ers, hated this team and that team. Some of those fans are really mean.

I imagine that the Colts are a source of pride to Indianapolis. It's an older rust belt city that has suffered economically for years. I wish everyone could respect the other team's pride in their own identity and not have to put the other side down.

I think both sides are testy. Hell, you mention the correct spelling of Brees' name in a nice way and people jump all over you. Either way, the Colts are a HUGE source of pride for us! We just love the fact that we've been able to get this far and get to play the team whose been number one this whole time :) Looking forward to it!

I am a Giants fan so I know a lot about underdogs winning the super bowl and destiny. And, I don't think the Saints are really a major underdog (they weny 13-3 in the regualr season and are the top seed in the NFC) and I don't think it's destiny for them to win it this year. Peyton Manning and the Colts had a season for the ages and if Peyton didn't leave the last two games they would have went 16-0, I think it's destiny for this Colts team to win it all this year.

I'm not trying to put the Saints down, they had a wonderful season and their fans should be proud, but they cooled off towards the end and the Cardinals and Vikings didn't play great games against them. Honestly, with the amount of times the Vikings lost the ball the NFC championship game should have never went to OT, the Saints should have been able to win in regulation.

I think the Colts just have the better team and QB (nothing against Brees, but peyton is the man, just look at his numbers). I think the Saints will put up a good fight in the first half, but I think the Colts will win by 7+. And remember, the Jets and Ravens were two teams who were said to have the best defenses in the league and look what the Colts did to them.

I feel like we are a bit more seasoned as well. We've been there within the past few years, we are used to playoffs and Peyton has been around for a long time.

The bottom line is, we'll see what happens on Feb 7, right? The team that plays the best will win. Honestly, every die hard fan is proud of their team and thinks they should win- no one should be criticized or put down for team spirit :cheer2:

The problem I am seeing (not from this thread, just in general) is the unnecesary criticisms of the Saints, their aggressive play, and cheap shots regarding what our region went through on Aug 29, 2005. Unless you experienced it firsthand, there is no way you can fathom the despair, hopelessness, and eventually pride as our area pulled themselves up by their bootstraps and helped themselves rebound. The thing that really ticks me off is the claim that the Saints "play dirty" (esp from the national media). Personally, and I usually love Brett Favre, I think he acted like a drama queen in the NFC game. I in no way think the Saints are out to hurt Peyton- like someone else said, this region loves him and would root for him if we weren't playing him.

Pride in your team and pride in your city is a GOOD thing- it bonds your residents together and lets you put aside your problems for those few hours while you are rooting for your team. I for one will never forget watching the Saints win and the group hug my mom, dad, sister, brother, niece and daughter had in the middle of the living room, while jumping up and down and screaming!!! THose memories are priceless to me. I am so happy my son got to experience the game in person with my husband, FIL, and BIL. 3 generations going to every home game (season ticket holders) is a privilege I don't think my DS10 realizes, but I know he is building memories that will last a lifetime.

One other thing- not to pull at heartstrings here, but just an explanation for my fanatic pulling for the Saints- my son suffered a horrible seizure while in the bathtub a few years ago and truly, without the grace of God, would not be here today. The Saints' games bring such pleasure to him, and after coming out of his seizure we were frantic, trying to figure out if he was Ok...we questioned him on players & their numbers and positions. When he answered them correctly we knew he was going to be Ok!!! I hope they win, for him, for the fans who have stood by the Saints and are watching from above, and for our city- which needs the revenue our championship team is bringing in.

I think this game will be closer than people think- don't count the Saints out! Experience counts for a lot, but if you are looking strictly at numbers Peyton and Brees are VERY similar. May the best team ON FEBRUARY 7 win, but in my mind I think we have the best team no matter what the outcome is!

Finally, I hope after the game is over, both teams will revisit this thread and congratulate the other side. There can only be one winner, and no matter what- our teams are both amazing for having gotten this far! I think it is totally appropriate that these 2 teams are playing in the Superbowl- they dominated the whole season and should be the teams playing for the Superbowl championship. WHO DAT!!!

The only reason for this thread was to discuss who people THOUGHT were going to win the super bowl, not who they liked or not to discuss hurrican katrina. I for one don't think hurrican katrina should come up when talking about football. It has nothing to do with how either team is going to come out and play next week.

And once again, I think the Saints are not going to do that good next week. Yes, they had a wonderful season but they lost 3 at the end and like i said before with all of the mistakes the vikings made the saints should have won that in regulation. The Colts are playing much better football then the Saints at the time being and the Saints don't have the defense that the Jets or Ravens do and the Colts beat them.

You know, it's fine if you don't want to discuss Katrina- that's your privilege. However, the Saints and Katrina will ALWAYS be discussed in tandem, because the Saints are a HUGE reason why this area rebounded the way it did. I think you should count your lucky stars that you don't want to discuss football in conjunction with a natural disaster- some of us do not have that luxury :sad2:
