Sunset Safari Questions **UPDATE: Post #19**

So- does the group choose the foods, or does the chef?? And they areitems that are on the regular menu- right?

The chef chooses the food but there is quite a variety and one of everything for everyone at the dinner. We had steak, fish and chicken as the main courses at our dinner this month.

I thought Jiko was one of the restaurants with a dress code? :confused3

Shorts are fine under the dress code as long as they aren't ripped jeans.

Jiko is our favorite Disney restaurant, we eat there all the time. Shorts are fine.

Thnaks for this info- it's exactly what I was looking for.

Current cost is $160 if staying AKL/AKV-CL; $210 if staying AKL/AKV non-CL. Don't know if the 7 y/o would be allowed -- it's for ages 8 & up. :confused3

It's "family style" so your Safari group gets to sample many of their menu offerings.
thanks! I guess we will do it may be the fallowing trip.... Or i will call and ask if he would be allowed. There is just no way I could do it with out him! He would love it too much!

No....... I'm not following you! You're following me!!! :lmao: I've been secretly subscribed to this thread sincethe beginning, just haven't posted 'til now.

boa's on the safari?? Hadn't thought of that! I guess I'd be ok with that as long as they are feathered boas and not boa constrictors!

Are you planning on staying at AKV's???
LOL
Yes we are staying safari view at Kidini(sp?) the 1st week on November. We own there:yay:
Are you headed there any time soon?

DH and I are planning a trip for November as well! WE are planning on staying at AKV's too- but we own at BCV.

Hi minnie2! We're staying at AKV Kidani Nov1-6th!! :goodvibes Maybe we'll be neighbors- haha, sure- there's only HOW many villas?:rotfl:

We did the Sunset Safari on Friday and we had no cover on the truck. However, after the snack break, we had no truck!!! It turns out there was a loose wire, truck didn't start and we finished the safari in 2 AKV vans. We were also brought to the barn as an additional plus to compensate for the inconvenience. The disappointment for me was that we didn't get to see the giraffes as up close and personal as many seem to have. They are in the area at the end of the safari, when we had passed them in the beginning we were assured there would be great picture opportunities on the way out. The van wasn't as good for viewing as the truck was, although it was more comfortable.

At the barn, we watched the red river hogs get some treats, saw a Kudu in his stall, and another animal who was recovering from a broken toe.

Because of the breakdown, we were out at least 1/2 hour later, and so we were close to 1 hour late for dinner. There were 12 in our group, all adults, and it was a very cordial group. I suffered stomach/indigestion problems all night so the combination of foods, (I'm guessing the duck salad or the pocket something appetizer) did me in. However, the food was very tasty and there was plenty for all.

We did the Sunrise Safari on Sunday and of the two it was my favorite. It was very special to see rhinos running around. They were very excited as they were let down into their area, and just looked happy, kicking up their heels.

I thought the Concierge was a very nice experience. We had a studio for 3 nights. DH expected "more" from Disney. The bussing of tables wasn't up to DH's standards, and I agree some service was lacking in that way. However, they had the best kettle potato chips I ever had, and I'm not a fan of potato chips, at least not until I tried theirs!!! We were never around for the main food offerings, or the wine/cheese selections. I did enjoy, and need the daily maid service. We enjoyed a glass of wine once, since you can ask for one even when the wine isn't "out."

Sorry to hear you didn't get the full truck tour, but it sounds like they did compensate a bit by showing you the barns. The giraffe part of the tour is on Sunset savanna, and you do indeed get almost close enough to touch them. They don't let you do that though. I agree about the rhinos on the sunrise too! We saw them playing and "fighting" with the logs etc. The other ones that were really entertaining for us were the greater Kudu.

 On one of our most recent Sunrise Safaris, the rhinos were playing in the mud!! Greg was our guide and even he was cracking up!!! :rotfl:

Sorry to hear about the truck. We didn't get as close to the giraffes either. I wonder if it depends on the driver or even the giraffes themselves.

So fun about the rhinos.

There are giraffe on all three savannahs. The largest group is on Uzima. When we did Wanyama in early March, we entered on Uzima but then drove straight through Arusha to Sunset and really started the tour there. We worked our way back to Uzima. Our guide told us this wasn't the normal route but they were doing it that way due to the construction.

Greg is awesome! :thumbsup2

It's really fun to get to know the 2 guides at the breakfast! :goodvibes We don't rush to get out into the park, we linger!! ;)

That's the one thing I didn't like about the Wanyama - the guides don't join you for the meal -- think about the great conversations those meals would have!! :cloud9:
