I was in Walmart the other day and found a new Coppertone product. It's a #30 aerosol alcohol based spray sunscreen. Works great. I had been purchasing the Banana Boat SPort alcohol spray in the pump bottle for the past few years, but I have acrylic fingernails and the stuff will soften up the polish and make your nails sticky, so you have fuzzy fingers :earseek: :rotfl: I know, that's not the end of the world for some of you but when you forget to pack polish remover and you are wearing a black sweater at the time. trust me, it ain't a pretty sight! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: This stuff is really great for the kids, just spray it on their hands and they can apply it to their faces without the lotion rubbing drama that I face each time. (And that's from DH :rotfl: ) I think between this stuff and the stick I may be out of the lotion business entirely!

I will have to check it out next time I am there !! I have never heard of it !

Alcohol based? That makes it flammable, dangerous to apply, will sting if gotten in the eyes, and will dry your skin.

I can vouch for another product--Ozone. I am terribly fair-skinned, and I can burn after about 15 minutes in the hot Florida sun. I've tried all brands, all SPF's, and the only thing that works for me is Ozone. It's something like SPF 70, but it honestly does the trick! (It's in a gray bottle--I can't think if it's Hawaiian Tropic or Banana Boat...) My husband and I honeymooned in Aruba (think close to the equator!), and after applying Ozone for a week, I came back to the states with the same fair skin I'd left with! Worked like a charm in DW last year, too. It's been difficult to find lately, but I've been able to find it at Wal-Mart and K-Mart. When I do see it, I buy bottles to put in storage just in case I can't find it again for a while.

Can you spray it on and not rub it in? Sunscreen application with 2 little kids is a laborious task!

HHMMM...mentioning the word Ozone. Did you say you're new sunscreen is aerosol? One word chloroflourocarbons (CFC's) I think it might be in the best interest of your kids to save their environment instead of saving some fights over sunscreen application, but hey to each their own.

Sorry not trying to sound snobby or anything but being a scientist I just couldnt let that one slide!

I try to use the pump sprays for DD's head - she wears braids alot and if I do not spray her part it gets burned - I will have to look for this new one next time I go to Walmart.
Thanks

Ozone is not a spray--it's regular rub-in stuff. Yes, it takes time, but to be free from burns...it's worth it!

the best sunscreen product i have found to date www.spwipes.com they are like baby wipes loaded w/sunscreen in individual packets... just wipe your arms/legs/face (they come in diff't sizes) and off you go... no messy anything... no spillage in your luggage... easy to carry in a fanny pack or pocket or golf bag... kids don't complain... a family can do a touch up (after splash mtn!) w/one wipe... we LOVE them! like their package says "fast easy and clean!" what more could you ask for?! check 'em out!

HAHA Kellypops I wasnt talking about your sunscreen ozone, but the aerosol spray that started the thread. sorry for the confusion!

I thought most aerosols were supposed to be cfc free nowadays. I know my right guard spray is cfc free (at least the bottle says it is). Just figured that was a law by now. I'm no scientist either and haven't researched this, but I really thought (hoped) that was the case.

It might be. To be honest I'm not really sure of the laws. All I know is that when I graduated last year they were still teaching us about CFC's and areosols. Hopefully it's a law!

Just did a quick web search and the epa banned cfc's from aerosols in 1978 (excluding a few items that were mostly medical like asthma inhalers). I had begun to doubt my memory!

1978!!?! Seems like it's been an environmental issue much later than that....

By chance was that 1978 "ban" one of those wishy-washy laws, saying something like, All companies are COMPLETELY BANNED from further using CFC's in ANY of their products!! (oh, by the year 2000). :scratchin You know, one of those laws that looks like they are taking a strong stand and taking action, but giving companies ridiculous amounts of time to act and correct harmful situations. :rolleyes1

This "phase out" is exactly the type of thing I was talking about....

And don't even get me started on airline safety regulations!! ;)

Has anyone tried the sunscreen with the bug repellent in it? It would seem that that would cut down on one less container to carry around if it actually works.

My parents used the bug/suntan stuff and they did very well with it. However they are not prone to burning, so I'm not sure how well it would do on a fair skined child

I hate having to 'lube' the kids up. Having it in a spray will make it so much nicer. I will have to look for it the next trip I make to the store. Thanks for the info!

good iea with the SPwipes. I am going to order some!
Thanks for the link!

Snowhite, you're absolutely correct about the phaseouts! At least the phaseout dates are now in the past, if I read that right. I just wanted to make sure I'm not still using cfc's when I use aerosols, and didn't want the poster who uses aerosol sunscreen to feel bad about it if he/she didn't need to. It sounds like these types of products are all cfc-free at this point at least.
