Sunglasses to an outside ceremony?

DF and I were shopping last night and he was looking at sunglasses. Let me just say, you know how some women are with shoes, they can never have enough, have a pair for each outfit, etc? Well, DF is like that with sunglasses. He has over 20 pairs, all Oakley (a waste of money if you ask me). So he says, "I need to get a new pair for our wedding." I was like, "What? You're going to wear sunglasses to our ceremony?" He was like "Of course, we're going to be outside." At first I was thinking there is no way I would let him wear sunglasses, but sunglasses are so him. Everyone probably expects him to wear sunglasses, but I just don't know how nice it will look. I want to be able to look into his eyes when I say "I do". What does everyone think about this?

Also, for anyone who has been married at SBP in the a.m., was the sun in your eyes at all?

I wore my sunglasses on the walk to SBP. I certainly wouldn't wear them during the ceremony. It was a bright afternoon but not when you are in SBP because you are under cover.

I would say definitely no sunglasses during the vows...but anytime other than that is fine (especially if they are something he always wears and your not worried about being traditional).

I don't know how traditional a wedding you are having, or if you plan on wearing a veil, etc. But it may be cute if he lifts your veil...you can "lift" his sunglasses! Or simply have him hand them off to his BM, when you hand over your bouquet to your MOH.

Be sure to get pics with (and without!) the shades!

I don't know how traditional a wedding you are having, or if you plan on wearing a veil, etc. But it may be cute if he lifts your veil...you can "lift" his sunglasses!

Just make sure that your photographer is aware of it... otherwise you may get "flashy" eyes pictures. He need to pay extra care when using the fill flash outside. Or any flash for that matter.

For our 9 am reception it was not too bright under the gazebo at SBP at all. It seemed to be the right amount of light. Some of my favorite pics from our wedding was those of Dwayne & I looking at each other during our vows. Sunglasses would have covered up some of the emotion that I saw in our pics. JMO

The day we got married the sun had just broken through an overcast sky so to us it was bright. If you look at pictures of the guys just sitting around they do have sunglasseson. I think that DH and I were probably the only people other than our bridal party not wearing sunglasses. Almost all of our guests it. We just about busted a gut when we saw that in pictures.

This being said the decision is ultimately up to you. I personally don't care for it as I wouldn't be able to look into DH eyes. How about wearing them in a few of the pictures taken after the ceremony as it sounds like the sunglasses are a representation of him?

It's funny that you mention the sunglasses thing... My mother-in-law always tells the story about how on her wedding day she started walking down the aisle, she saw her husband-to-be (jim's dad)... and she saw that he was wearing sunglasses and she wanted to kill him (but married him anyways ...) so at least you'll know about it!! For my parent's wedding, it was chewing gum.. my mom walked down the aisle and my dad was chomping on a piece of gum Anyway just thought I'd share that story.. I love Marty Moose's idea of wearing the sunglasses until you hand off your bouquet, I think that's a great idea! As long as YOU don't mind.. it's your wedding!!

Oh my goodness! Your poor mom and MIL! I would be so upset if I did not know about it before hand, but I am sure I would get over it. That is too funny

JJClemson, I have seen many photos of wedding couples who were wearing sunglasses. I always thought the photos were cute. I should note that the vast majority of those photos were taken either before or after the ceremony.

For my vow renewal, a few guests and I chose to wear sunglasses when we arrived inside the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park for our dinner party. You can see this in two of my photos:

Since our dinner party was what you call “Hollywood,” I thought the sunglasses were a fun touch. Mine were actually lined in rhinestones, a not-so-subtle Hollywood touch and perfect for the Studios.

If sunglasses are as important to your significant other as they appear to be, definitely find a way to incorporate them into your wedding, even if it is only for photos before or after the ceremony. You won’t regret it, and your significant other will thank you for allowing a little piece of his personality to creep into your big day.

Janet2k, Thanks for sharing your pictures! I definitely think you all look "Hollywood" I definitely agree with letting his personality to shine through. It's more fun that way!
