Summer's Planning Journal 08/20 Update 08/10/07

Thanks girls, I am so worried now. I had no idea that we had used so much of our credit. We are paying for everything ourselves and the last few months have been a blur. I was hoping these last 2 weeks would be stress free but it's looking really unlikely. I was going to ask my boss for an advance, but apparently he got screwed over by someone he did that for in the past, so it looks doubtful.:sad1: I can't see any other way, I have to cancel Discovery Cove, we are now even struggling to pay for our wedding meal, so I'm going to have to look at my ADR's and see where we can cut back.
This won't be a problem if the new CC comes through, but with the mail being the way it is, I'm worrying so much. I'm thinking I may have to ask my Grandparents for a loan and I really don't want to do that, it's so embarrassing:guilty:
Our CC has been dispatched as far as I am aware, they never offered to courier it or anything. I might try and call them again tonight, just to make sure it's been dispatched.
I really feel sick to my stomach, I don't know what happened:confused:

Oh no - I know exactly how you must feel. My parents waited until two weeks ago to finally tell me that they were not sure they or my sister's family could make it without using the money that they were going to spend on our wedding, so now we have the wedding to pay for too :( If it comes to it and the card doesn't arrive, I would ask your grandparents - this is your "once in a lifetime", you should be able to relax and have fun! :( I wish I had the money, I'd lend it to you :)

Ooh Summer - I know how that feels hun. I'm sure your CC will be here in time. You could try applying for another one. I'm sure with egg you can apply online and be given the ok straight away and all you'd be waiting on was the card. With two cards winging their merry way to you that would double your chances of getting one before you go. They usually do interest free for a while too.

Can you contact your maxed out CC and ask for a higher credit level, even to cover the costs of the vet bills? I'm sure they would see that as an unexpected cost and understand.

That is fab news that Morgan is getting better :goodvibes

Sending you lots of pixie dust chick - don't want you to have to cancel anything. Kxx

Kirsteen Steven asked the CC company to up the limit and they said they review it once a year, which I don't think is accurate and because they chose to increase our limit in Jan, it's not due:sad2: I really am running out of ideas.

What about an overdraft from your bank? You can maybe wire the money to tanis to pay for the wedding.
I dont have a job right now so I'm worried about money all the time so I can imagine what your going through

I called our CC company and asked for a higher limit as we were buying a sofa right after getting the card as the original limit was less than the cost of a sofa! They moved it no problem. Might be worth another try, with a different person Steven might get a totally different answer (which is so annoying!!).

Trying to increase your overdraft is a good idea. :thumbsup2

What about a loan? I arranged my car loan online and there was someone at our front door the very next day with a cheque :thumbsup2 I don't think he was Royal Mail either so might not get caught up in the mail strikes. Or a loan from your bank, they could probably pop the money into your account straight away. Then you can pay what you have to or pop along to your TA and ask them to put it on an American Express card for you - that way you can use it like a debit card in Orlando.

Kxx

I'm pretty sure they can up the credit limit if they wanted to, I'll get Steven to call again tonight, I can't concentrate at work because I keep trying to think of ways to get some cash.

I would try the credit card limit also - if you've been a good customer and explain to them that you need the money for your wedding, they should be pleased to lend it to you! :) I had a loan with Sainsburys Bank last year, they were excellent - you could try them. Just be careful what interest rate you commit to. :)

Ooh - I forgot to mention - Sainsburys hand deliver the cheque for an additional £40, so it's there in your hands!

Our loan was with the AA - they were offering the best interest rates at the time and we didn't make the first payment until 2/3 months after getting the cheque. :thumbsup2

Thanks girls. I am hoping my boss comes in today and I am going to bite the bullet and ask him for an advance. I would rather do that than ask my Grandparents. I don't really want to apply for another loan. We already have a huge one secured against the house, plus because I am only looking for £1000 (approx $2000) it seems a bit OTT as it really is only a small amount, although it does seem huge when you don't have it:rolleyes:

Hey Summer,

I'm sorry to hear that you have this new stress to contend with. I would agree that you should talk to another person in the credit card company. Especially if you've been customers for a while. They're always worried about customer retention, and I would think that increasing your limit would be very easy for them to do.

I hope it works out and you don't need to cancel anything.

Summer, I would sit and talk with your boss. I'm sure he understands how your wedding is a dream come true and he has been so understanding about Morgan. It's not like you won't be coming back to work! If you explain how the vet bills came to so much more, I can't see him turning you down for an advance. I would try not to cut corners unless you absolutely have to.

please cheer up! I'm wishing you luck from my corner of the world and you're such a sweet girl - I'm sure it will fall into place !! the power of positive thinking

Michelle :cloud9:

Thanks for the kind words everyone:grouphug: It's typical that the day I really want my boss to be here and he decides not to come in.:rolleyes1 I am trying to remain positive and if the card comes we're fine, I just worry that we are cutting it so fine. I just wanted these last two weeks to be fun as I'll never get them back again. I really don't want to cut anything as everything planned is perfect:sad1:

I've just put our Lotto numbers on for tonight - if our numbers are up I'll pop £1k in a taxi up north for you :cheer2: :goodvibes

Summer,

I am so sorry to hear that your stressing......just remember, everything will work it's way out, one way or another. I would hold off cancelling anything until the last possible moment. That way, when you get word that you'll have the money, you won't have to scramble around to rebook things.

Remember, breathe.......it'll all be ok !! :thumbsup2

I have until the 6th of August to cancel Discovery Cove for a full refund. Also I will hold off on rearranging some of my ADR's at the moment as I can cancel that later on. I'm hoping it will work out, normally something comes along when you least expect it:goodvibes
